lil j has just learned to climb on top of the dining room table. his favorite thing in the world. However, I obviously don't allow it. After telling him "NO" once, Yuki has taken upon herself to make sure he listens. Now, the second he touches a chair, Yuki runs to me and starts talking (low growl, roo-roo'ing). When I look up, she races back to lil J and points with her nose. I love this because it means I can be anywhere in the house and know lil J is being taken care of. Is that the only time? apparently not. Today we were outside letting lil J go for a little walk over the new snow. Every time one of the neighbors would stop me to chat, Yuki would circle little J over and over so he wouldn't get more than a few steps from me. No nipping which impressed me since she nips Mr J and I all the time when we run. Just nudged him with her nose! Lil J thinks she's playing and just laughs and laughs b/c Yuki is going in circles so fast. Then when I was checking the mail, she stayed on the driveway with lil J and kept barking at him to stay on the driveway. She's such a good nanny. |

Wow!! What a great dog!
That is just awesome, what a good girl! |
What a good herding girl! It is so sweet when they do that.
Ok, frustrates the heck out of the kids, but us adults think it is great! |

Ok, frustrates the heck out of the kids, but us adults think it is great! Frustrates the heck out of me sometimes too when I want J to walk to me, but there's someone who thinks he's not allowed in the street. |
What a good girl!
I understand the frustration too..... Pepsi hates for Ryan to go in the pool. (he cannot herd him if he is in there) He will circle the pool and bark at Ryan until he gets out, or he gets in and sits on the step and barks at him.... |
I know what you mean. Loki is always bumping and mouthing the kids when they start to run and play or dance rambunctiously (sp?) I sometimes put him in his crate with a nice big treaty or some dog food so that the kids can run and dance around and he can stop herding and stressing, but I think it's still a little stressful for him, because he yips at them from his crate when they get oo wild. I think they will all get used to it though! |
Way to go, Yuki girl!! |
Aww that is beyond cute! |
AWWWWW what a good girl !!! |
Good girl!
Was she always like this with him or has it taken some time? |
If you are happy now that YUKI herds wait a few months when your son really starts testing the waters. It is so helpful to have a dog that herds my rampant toddler into corners or barks if she takes one too many steps away from us outdoors. Fred is super protective of Hailey and it is a blessing. It sounds like Yuki is looking out for Little J. the same way; this is great. BTW I have a table climber too and it doesn't matter how many times I remove her from the table she climbs back up five seconds later. What is it with these kids an the table? |
Fabulous! Do you think Yukster could come to MN and train Pip on how to be a good Nanny??? I can just see her out on the driveway circling Lil J to keep him in line!
YOU GO GIRL! |

hahahahahhahaha I so know that feeling. My friend puts all her chairs backwards against the table. This way they can only climb onto the chair. Her thinking, which I agree with is, if they fall off the chair, it's probably going to be a bruise. The table may result in something more serious esp. if there's a slippery tablecloth over it, ...so chair climbing is fine to an extend (as long as they're not jumping off or hopping between them). I put the chairs on top of the table one time, and I thought I had them far enough in the middle that J couldn't reach them. Well, somehow he did, and they all fell down on Yuki one day. Felt horrible. anyway, so we do the backward chair thing and just wait for yuki to tell me that she doesn't even allow chair climbing. I guess she makes the rules in the house, not me. |
