I'm Getting Me A Husband!

Ummm not me if that's what you're thinking. :phew:

This forum was temporarily taken over by Puff my lion head bunny.

I belong to Small Animal Rescue and through their forum was able to become better educated on the care of my Bunny and Guinea Pig. Much like many members from all over the world learn about their furkids through OES.

In the past bunnies were regulated to living their lives in Hutches and often forgotten about, living out their lonely lives in a hutch. The hutches had mesh floors so poop falls through, which I now realize is so detrimental to their well being. I wrote one time on another post that bunnies have two different kinds of poop - one is redigested and contains essential minerals and natural anti-biotics for their well being. A mesh floor doesn't allow them to do this. Living in a hutch outdoors they are often forgotten about and never get the chance to "binkie" kicking up their heels and bounce around in pure joy while they race around.

We also know now that bunnies are very social (okay everyone knew that) but they bond extremely well with another of it's kind. The gentleness displayed is heartwarming, they groom and cuddle together. Most touching of all is when they sleep together their heads are touching and their tails..resembling giant hearts!

Bunnies can be housebroken and are very much like cats in many ways. They come when called, happily jump on the couch and sit on the lap of their person for pats.

My Puff and previous bunnies had always lived with Guinea pigs for what I thought were obvious reasons. I now know that they really prefer their own kind. Asked to foster a senior lion head bun who is 9 years old and has only known life in a small cage as well as his Guinea pig buddy it was a perfect match for Puff and Squeak. As he was too old to be neutered, I had Puff spayed 2 days ago so she can share her life with her new Hubby.
Arthur and his buddy are being transported several hundred miles and will arrive in 2 weeks when Puff has recovered from her surgery. The rescue as you can imagine is flooded with unwanted bunnies and not enough homes for them.

White bunnies not natural to nature unless they live in snow areas are usually killed by predators the first night they are released. Those that think a domestic rabbit can fare okay out in the wild are sadly mistakne.

Yes, you can spay and neuter bunnies and it's highly recommended. The behaviors and health benefits are very much like those of our sheepies. Bunnies can live up to 10 years or more.

Easter is coming and sadly the petstores are going to be flooded with baby bunnies. In some ways this is a public service announcement. Being a lover of all creatures, no matter what the size of the pet they all deserve the best possible and happiest life we can offer them.

Marianne and the furballs

PS- Yes the cats, dogs, bunny and GP do all get along at my place.

Aw, I can't wait to see them!
Congrats on the new bunny :)
Thanks for educating us. I love rabbits - have ever since I read Watership Down!! However, I don't know much about them in an every-day setting.

How did you socialize all your animals together?
Congrats to Puff. Can't wait to see pics of the Puff and her hubby. 8)
Should we dress up for the occassion...after all you will perform a marriage ceremony right??

Sounds like a great match, and I hope they all live hoppily ever after.
How fun!

When I was in 6th grade my teacher had a rabbit named TM (Toasted Marshmellow--she was white with tan spots) that came to work with her every day and had a litter box that it used and it just hopped around the classroom.
We had a bunny until about 7 months ago. My vet donated Lola to me. It seems someone found her on the street behind the vets office it happened to be the same day I needed to visit the vet and she convinced me to take her home even had her completely check out free from the vet. She was wonderful we had her for a healthy happy 5 years. The vet seemed to think she was about 3-4 when we got her. I had a halter type leash for her so she could walk around outside. Phoebe didn't like her much though they are great pets
I had a bunny for MANY years, his name was Thumper. He did live in a hutch but spent a large part of his time in the house. He was a WONDERFUL animal. I have not thought about him in years!!

Thanks for the education on bunies!!
That's cool, Marianne. I didn't know much about bunnies, either, except that they're really cute.

Two of our TOES board members also do bunny rescue. I always find it interesting. :D
Oh my gosh Marianne, that Puff is the cutest darn bunny I have ever seen!

Her new hubby is going to be very pleased indeed!
BUNNIES!!! they are super cute! Can't wait to see the pics of Puff's new "man"!
I'm curious, Marianne...how does your Bun get along with your dogs? We had a Dwarf Himalayan Bunny, many years ago (his name was George, and he was much beloved :hearts: ) But, tragically, he died of a heart attack caused by being frightened by a friend's boisterous husky  . That experience somewhat put us off mixing rabbits and dogs... :?
Wonderful!! Congrats on the new addition. Looking forward to more pictures.
:D Congratulations,Marianne. At first I thought it was you! Unfortuantely, Willoughby thinks that bunnies are meant for chasing. There are a lot of them in the cemetery where we walk. I suspect, however that just as he doesn't chase his own cats, he might not chase a personal bunnie. 8)
Now isn't Puff a sweet looking little gal , give the happy couple my congrats please :D
Whew and I thought Marianne had gone and adopted a husband. Can't wait to see pictures of the happy couple.
