Sid Caesar as The Professor, Carl Reiner as The Reporter. Reporter: "Professor, I understand you have advice on how to survive falling off of a mountain." Professor: "Yes I do." Reporter: "Would you tell me about it?" Professor: "I suggest screaming." Reporter: "Will that do any good?" Professor: "It couldn't hurt." Reporter: "Seriously, tell me about your research." Professor: "Well, you have to act very quickly." Reporter, writing furiously: "Quickly, uh huh" Professor: "Raise your arms above your head." Reporter, still writing: "Above head, uh huh" Professor: "Lower them down to your sides" Reporter: "Sides, yup." Professor: "Then repeat that very fast, flap your arms and fly down to the bottom safely." Reporter, looking up: "But professor, people can't fly" Professor: "Well, you could always go back to screaming." I think about that phrase often. Whenever someone has told me that something is hopeless, some path won't do any good, I frequently think: "Well, you could always go back to screaming." |
