Hi Twissel,
Welcome to the forum, I am so sorry to hear about your loss. I love the name Higgins, it just seems to fit an OES. How exciting to be puppy hunting. DNA cert is typically done when there is more than 1 male breeding, it just ensures that the puppies are in fact from the parents they say they are from. OFA stands for Orthopedic Foundation for Animals, what that means is their dogs have been screened on hips and elbows to ensure that they have no genetic problems to pass on to the pups. Some breeders also do CERF tests for eyes and BAER tests for hearing. Just in my personal opinion, the OFA is the most important along with a heart screening. I think the others are important too. I look forward to hearing about your search for a puppy, please keep us updated. Stormi and co. |
Hello,
I live about an hour from you and wanted to let you know that the breeder that I got my pup from just had a litter of new puppies a few days ago and is a driveable distance from your location. (He's 6.5 months now... I know, I need to update my avatar!) The breeder was a referral from the AKC Old English Sheepdog Club of America and has been in the OES world, judging, showing & breeding for over 30 years now. She has had many champion show dogs from her kennel but prides herself on the consistant wonderful temperament that her dogs have. If you are interested in her contact info please email me at my email address through this forum's profile feature. Sorry, to hear about Higgins & I hope you find your new family member soon. Welcome to the forum. It has been so helpful to me because it's been 13 years since I've had an OES puppy too. |
