Mulligan is typical spoiled rotten sheepdog through and through. He is all about his people, but especially his mommy. If Joan is home, he will watch me carefully as I move about. If I put on a jacket he'll jump up to go with me. If I head to the kitchen he's watching and listening, and if anything sounds hopeful he's there. But he's even more clingy with Joan. If Joan even so much as lifts a pencil, he jumps to his feet looking for some attention. If she sighs he's looking at her. When she's not home, he just mopes. He lies down and is sure that mommy is never coming home, all hope is lost, life will never be the same. So today while Joan was gone for a doctor's appointment, Mulligan was moping, as usual. This time, I walked by him I saw my video camera out, so I flipped it into web mode and took a little video to show Joan. Since everyone has been whining about more Mulligan multimedia, I decided to upload it for your viewing pleasure. Enjoy "Mulligan Mopes." AWWWW....Poor mulligan
Kinda cool to have a voice to match with your posts, now, Ron! |
HOLY COW. A Mulligan thread. <looks outside for it to be raining pigs or sugarplums>
I think you're going to have to do CPR on the poor thing. We need proof Mulligan came back to life when Joan got home. |
Come home Mom
Got treats Dad? |

Mulligan looks like his best friend died in this video; this is so sad. |

He does.... lol Poor Mulligan!! |
Oh my gosh! He's totally ignoring you! I can just hear him thinking..."you are not my mommy....I am invisible....unless you have a treat...then perhaps I will look at you"
When Carl goes out of town Martin and Virgil drove me crazy running to the door every 2 seconds about the time Carl would normally come home from work. Then all evening that first night....run to the front window at every little sound. By the second and third nights it was "dad is NEVER coming home....what's for dinner mom?". They were MINE until Carl got home and then...boom...I was invisible again. They do love me but Daddy is DADDY. Then Dawnie came along...and guess what? She's MINE! HA finally got one. These puppers are such lovable jerks... Thanks for sharing! |
My husband says the same thing about our dogs moping when I'm gone!

He has that great Boston accent! (Having watched Good Will Hunting & The Departed in the same week I think I'm all set for St Patty's Day with the Boston Irish Boys) |
Poor Mulligan! Your heart just breaks for him. Hurry home soon Joan your Mully misses his mom! |
Poor Mulligan - he obviously needs a small sheepie pup to annoy him to no end. Wonder if Stacey has an extra one she can send you. |
Poor Mulligan, hurry home joan your baby misses you. He looks really really sad.
Cool accent ron. |
Yeah I got my Mulligan fix!!!!!!
Thanks so much for posting and giving us an update on Mulligan. I couldn't hear your voice as no speakers at the moment..so will have to still think of Ron in terms of Kermit the frog voice. Marianne and the boys Sending belly rubs to Mulligan |
poor pathetic lil mullie soooo sad!!
nice voice ron |
"POOR POOR PITIFUL ME"
Poor Mulligan!!! Looks like he needs a MAJOR belly rub!!!!! |
Poor Mulligan he looks so sad missing his mom |
Don't take it so hard, Ron; us guys are always in the background (actually the power behind the throne). |
What did Joan say? |
Emily, every time I see your Avatar it makes me giggle |
Joan's response was mostly "Awwww" with a strange sad yet guilty smirk on her face.
She feels slightly guilty that Mulligan prefers her over me, and sad that he feels so blue when she's gone. I am torn as to whether I should allow her to feel guilty and tease her about it, or I could tell her not to worry about it, I'm fine; or I could absolve her. Here I brush it off: "Honey, He's just chosen the nicer of us, that's only natural. He's a great dog and I still love him." Here I could offer absolution: "Don't feel guilty, honey. You spend more time with him and give him more treats, so it is only natural that he made you his favorite, there's nothing you should feel guilty about." On the other hand I could say: "You know, it was me who wanted a sheepdog in the first place, and now he only has eyes for you because you have spoiled him by giving him extra rubs and treats and special things all the time. Don't worry, I'll be fine. Mostly. No really, don't worry about me." I'm still torn. It's all her fault that I'm torn about this, too. |
Poor Ron, the decisions you face.
I think you should just get another sheepdog in the hopes that #2 will like you the best! |
Wow! Two sheepdogs, that's the answer. This time get a female. For some reason that's how it has worked here. Simone (MO) will start looking for Paul to come home about an hour before he's due.......she won't come when called, won't come to eat and if indoors will stand beside the door or window (click camera below) looking for her Dad. Woe be if he's traveling......
Jack is my dog (as are Harry and Fox) and my boys insist on sleeping in the same room as me and if I close the door, they are piled up outside the door. They follow me, sit beside me and look to me for.....their life. So Ron, you need your own dog. I'm sure a nice, pretty girl could be found for you and you can spoil her rotten! |
The solution is quite clear, GET ANOTHER ONE |
Awwww! Poor miserable Mulligan! I would really love to see happy Mulligan. Does he really cheer up when Joan is home? |

Hee Hee... I've never seen s moping sheepis before.
So he stays that way till mommy comes home? Such a cute mama's boy!! |
So happy to get to see Mulligan Mopey or not he is really a cute guy and definitely camera and video worthy Hope that is just the beginning of the Mulligan storys |
I think you should get another oes too. A girl this time, and I bet she will bond with you, but still love Joan more LOL |
Poor Mulligan, he just wants his mommy |
Aweeee Mulligan.....
That would definitely be the definition of moping..... Do you think Mulligan wants a brother or sister ??? (hint hint) Michelina~ |
I Dream Of Sheepie wrote: Do you think Mulligan wants a brother or sister ??? (hint hint) Yes! But not more than I want to remain married! |
Really? So Joan wouldn't like another oes?
There are only a few on the forum I think who only have one... they have an addictive quality... |
Joan does not want more than Mulligan. |
start the training...get Mulligan to look for his treats from you, the extra walks, the belly rubs...soon he'll be thinking mom who?
you can win this |
LOL! Poor Mulligan! I totally understand. Since I travel so much, Tim wanted to get a dog to keep him company while I'm gone. And he says that whenever I go away, Bailey mopes! I really, really want him to be Tim's dog, but Bailey made his own decision |

Nope! I've tried to turn him into "daddy's dog" by making Tim take him for daily walks and do some training classes with him. It's no use. His mind is made up. |
