Does it look like a blood blister?

I have heard of it, but have never seen one.
Here is some info http://www.marvistavet.com/html/body_au ... atoma.html |
Yes we had it happened twice to our sheepie Winston. The vet will go in and put a drain in between the layers of skin in the ear and let it drain for about a week and then they remove the drain and suture it up. We used an E-collar to prevent him from scratching it even more after the vet's procedure. It is basically a broken blood vessel in the ear from them scratching extremely hard. |
thanks, i wasn't sure how they would drain it. her nails were really long, so i'm sure that made it a lot worse. she is so different from any other dogs i've had. she's 18 months and i still have a lot to learn. |
Tasker has had that happen as well, it is a hematoma. He gets them when he has a really bad ear infection, he shakes his head so hard that it causes a vessel to rupture. The smaller ones will sometimes absorb over a period of time (can take a very long time). He has had two which required surgery, as described above the ear had to be opened, the hematoma evacuated then the skin was sew open to allow it to heal from the inside out. |
Hematoma, that's it! It just wouldn't come to me! She is wayyyy overdue for spaying, so I guess I may as well have it all done at one time. |
Well, I don't know how quickly you are gettiong in for the spay but, I wouldn't put it off too long. Hematomas should be taken care of quickly, they can develope complications. |
I'm going to get her in as soon as I can. I just found out about this last evening. |
