What's a booster bath? |
The Booster bath tub for indoor/outdoor. Can't find a picture to copy it here, anyway you can search on the web to see how it looks like, just type dog booster bath tub |
I always put towels under my knees
That an my pet shower head hose, and I'm set!!! I use the towels under my knees to dry the monster. Never takes long to bathe mine! I am a get in.... get out. Never heard of what you're talking about until now! |
A booster bath is just a raised tub, so you can wash the dog while standing. I know what one is because I read the pet supply house catalog a LOT.
It won't help you Pankoa since shipping from Ontario to Texas would be crazy expensive but you can check out the catalog to price-compare (make sure you convert from CAD to USD). www.petsupplyhouse.com For the sake of 2 baths a year (and possibly one more if Barkley gets really yucky at the cottage in the summer), I wouldn't bother buying any special bathing equipment. P.S. Don't kneel in front of the tub - put on your swimsuit and get in - sit on the edge of the tub! |
Actually we've recently discovered Pet Supply House won't ship out of Canada.
I love Pet Supply House... it's like the wish book catalogue that comes out at xmas but better! |
There's a doggy wash place not too far from us... they may get a second visit from us as they have standing height tubs and we are (read: Joan is) getting too old to do it in the tub.
I am already too old and less than flexible enough to do it in the tub anymore. Last time we were there (I think it was with a foster dog) I think it was $12, and I think it included choice of their shampoo (which I think included an oatmeal shampoo). I'm not sure I can heat enough water to do a dog with any length coat for $12. The doggy wash is attached to a car wash. If you turn on a flashlight, your dog may get an undercarriage wash. (I'm sure this attempt at humor dates me) |
Pankoa,
This is a topic near to my rickety old knees and back as well. When I get a chance to finish my basement one of the first items installed will be a fitted and raised steel bathtub - with a pressure regulated shower valve - in the grooming room so I can bathe my pack easier (and hence more frequently) than I do right now in the regular bathroom tub, actually the shower which is the case for me right now. An example of a portable raised bath for those who can't buy from pet supplyhouse.come try http://www.jbpet.com/Shopping/productb. ... d=784-0101 I have also seen some with a removable endpiece to prevent water splashing/flowing out the back and stainless steel equivalents. Until you get your raised tub or other solution try using a gardener's kneeling pad to protect your knees. They are made from a high density neoprene foam, are waterproof and inexpensive to buy at most department stores, craft stores or gardening centres. They work much better than rolled up towels, ask me how I know, and last a long time (unless the puppers get hold of them and perform the fatal "shred test"). You might want to get two, one for under your knees and one for under your feet as I find that I have my feet soles up and the tops of my feet get sore and tender when they are in contact with the bathroom floor for the extended duration of a dog bath. As has been mentioned a raised tub is fairly expensive if are just bathing your Bobtail a few times a year. But if you are bathing once a month or so it can be easily amortized over a couple of years and just how much is avoiding knee and back pain worth - plus you'll end up doing a better job bathing your Bobtail as well. Sometimes there is just no substitute for the right tool and quality tools!!! Michele says I'd buy a specialized tool for every single job if I could.... and she is right... |
Okay, I just did a bit more searching and came up with a few alternate suppliers, maybe one is close to you.
http://www.doolittlespetproducts.com/dogbathtub.html http://www.alphapetsupplies.com/Dog_Bath_.htm A more deluxe "just to tease ourselves" built-in version. http://www.old-dog-treats-and-rawhide.c ... h-tub.html I know we have also had a few people send in photos of their raised tubs on this forum as well. Ron - how about sorting out the search engine or giving a tutorial on it's use to make this a bit easier!! |
Thanks to all the replies.
Petco was in special promo till tomorrow plus the shipping rate is only 6.75 The Booster bath was 149.99 the cheapest prize i seen so far. I come up on getting this tub coz the back pain and picking up my pet in & out on my tub was hard. What more when they reach their approximate size. I bath my dog once a week at least to maintain their fresh smell and to avoid bad matting. But know what...? anything for pet supply was pretty expensive ............ need to get part time for my sheepies expenses. |
Right on Ron! The doggie wash-a-terias are wonderful! Many have walk up steps to get the beasts in the tub and blowers for blasting off the water.
Wish people would visit them more so they were more popular. Back and knees? What are those?? None work in this house any more. |
You see, in the old, early days of automatic car washes, if your turned on your headlights it waxed the car at the end... I'm not sure if there was a headlight sensor, or if a guy pushed a button when he saw a car with headlights on! |
Hmmm.... I never realized how lucky I am. Harley gets in and out of our tub by himself. I sit in the edge and sort of get in with him. We both end up getting a bath, really, but he seems to enjoy it. I give him a little doggie massage when we put the shampoo on. He even lets me use a hairdryer and a brush afterward and just lays on the floor letting me brush away.
I use lots of treats through the process, though |
I noticed that Costco in Kitchener have booster tubs on sale at the moment. I think they were around $129. |
I have one of these and LOVE it! Sent you a private message but just for anyone out there, the booster bath comes with the ramps and it all stores inside of each other. Very easy to store and nice to use. Except you still need hot water source...There is an attachment to hook up to your washer but I couldn't figure out how to use it!
But for people who have limited space, the booster bath is great! |
anybody in the uk interested in a booster bath there is one on this site going for £80

Our groomer for Jake our OTB lab had a regular bath tub that was installed on a raised platform that was custom built to her height. All of the plumbing was standard except for the pressure regulated hose. Could be pretty inexpensive if you can find a used supply house for your tub ( we have a Habitat for Humanity warehouse that often has new donated things or like new for basically nothing ) and if you have a crafty family member to build your base and stairs or ramp could cost less.
During the winter we use a groomer when Chauncey is in long coat, in the summer when Chauncey is in short coat we use a kiddie pool outside. If it's ugly outside we get in the bathtub, with our door I need to get in as well. He's not a fan of the whirlpool though. He's strictly a shower type guy He does enjoy a good massage though. Ron, the last time I bathed him in the tub he had his headlight's on, I didn't know he wanted his undercarriage washed |
