Walter got in a fight

I take full responsibility :(

We can't have fences in my parent's neighborhood, but somehow my neighbor down the street has an iron fence surrounding his whole house (could it have anything to do with him being an ex-NBA basketball player??). Anyway he lets his 2 fence aggressive Rotties outside unsupervised all the time. I let Walter out at night in the backyard with no leash- I usually stand and watch him but I went to use the bathroom myself last night. When I came back I heard a bark(Rotties) and saw Walter take off. I grabbed my boots and ran after him but he got there first and they were fighting through the fence.

Walter has a cut on his nose and on the side of his muzzle, he was bleeding. I cleaned him up and he honestly doesn't seem to notice at all. He's a tough cookie and he'll be fine... I'm just bummed about the whole situation. I know I should not have left him out there unsupervised- but he likes to run around out there and now he can't

Poor Walter! I am glad he is ok. Given the situation, I am glad your neighbor was allowed to put up a fence because you would not want those dogs out on chains.

Can you put in an invisible fence?
Poor Walter!

I hope he is ok. Keep an eye on those wounds.

Well, on the bright side now is your chance to meet your ex-NBA neighbor to check on his dogs, and to take responsibility for any vet bills. Or not.

I'm thinking about it... I wasn't going to because I'm bitter that he gets to have a fence and we don't, and that his dogs have attacked dogs in the neighborhood before. Also Walter is not the most coordinated dog plus he's missing some teeth (tripped and fell on his face, knocked out his front tooth and chipped another), so I doubt he did any damage.

I think an invisible fence might be a good idea... but I am worried that the wild man might bust right through it if he sees a car or hears the dogs barking.
I'm so sorry :(

Steve now won't stop asking who the ex-NBA player is. I'll send you a PM. XOXO
I have a comment about the invisible fence. It was much harder to teach Rebecca the fence when she arrived here at age 5, than the boys who we got as puppies.
I think the invisible fence might be a good option.
Seems though that many people don't realize you
have to teach the dog how to react to it. The more
you train with it the better it will work and the less
chance the dog will run the line.
Unfortunately this
is one of those situations where the only true quick
fix is a fence - and you can't have one. Such a shame.
There are lots of towns and developments going in that
direction too.
I'd love to have my invisible fence working again. We
really love it. My neighbor keeps cutting the line, so for
now the dogs are always leashed outside no matter what.

I am right there with you on this too - been there, had the
pit bites etc. What a horrible feeling when it is over and
you have a minute to think about it!

I'm glad all the dogs are okay! I imagine that was SUPER SCARY!!!

Since the Rotts wouldn't be affected by the invisible fence, not sure how that's the solution. They'll still be running lose. Apparently they were in eyesight, and if they saw Walter in his "space" ...nothing would stop them from coming over. :?

To me, the solution is just being supervised or getting the invisible fence but talking to the owners of the Rotts (saying their dogs keep biting your dog).

The Rotties were in their fenced yard and Walty ran over to them and the fight occurred through the fence.
Ah!! I even read it several times and still only read it as "he lets his aggressive rotts outside unsupervised..."

Yup, unsupervised in their own fenced yard.

I imagine the ex-star probably likes having fierce Rotties at the fence keeping intruders away.
Poor Walter. I'm glad he didn't get seriously injured. I wonder if something like this would be enough to bring up the idea of fences in the next neighborhood association meeting?

I think it's crazy that people can't build fences on their own property, but I guess one person's idea of a nice, pretty fence could be something completely ugly...
Poor Walter!!

I hope he heals QUICKLY!!
Sorry to hear of Walters troubles and hope he is okay :)
Walter says thank you for the sympathy! I really don't think he even knows that he is hurt, but he did enjoy the extra attention I gave him.
Poor Walter!
I don't think it's fair that you can't have a fence, if this guy is allowed you should also be allowed. :x
Hi,

Merlin is miffed someone dare touch his buddy!!!! He wished he had been there and said he woulda had Lil Walty's back! :? Okay well maybe Merlin didn't really say that to me but he'd probably be thinking that way. Glad to hear Lil Walty wasn't more seriously hurt and we're all sending belly rubs his way. Not fair about the fence!

Marianne and the boys
Glad Walter is doing fine. I agree that it is not right you can't fence and someone in the neighborhood can. That is a real Bummer.
