Just 1 handful? Tell him he can do better than that...
I find using a pin brush results in less hairloss. I barely get any when I use one. When I use a comb, I can get several piles!! |
She is useing a rake. Sometimes she gets more, I was averageing it to one big handfull. |
I use a comb and remove the undercoat. Every week, I get a somewhere around half a plastic grocery bag per dog - or more. |
I wouldn't use a rake as a means of brushing. It's tearing the hair out and that's why you're getting so much-- unless you're purposely removing the undercoat. Try a straight pin brush (not the ones with the little balls at the end of the bristles) and brush from the ends to the roots. All that you'll be removing is the dead hair, which really isn't much with regular brushing. Breaking the hair off will wind up causing more tangles, and consequently, more mats. |
You can also cause skin infections by brushing with a rake all of the time. One little scratch can turn into a whole big problem.
Go with a good pin brush and if you like the 'thoroughness' of the rake, try a wide tooth comb. Rescoe makes an EXCELLENT one that you can find at Cherrybrook.com. |
