Max.. his story continues

Good Saturday Morning!
Just a quick update- I spoke with Carrie yesterday- Chumley's PT. What a wonderful gal she is! So positive and helpful. She gave me the name and number of someone in Ohio, to get Max started with the right kind of therapy. We need to be aggressive at this point. Bad advice had us keeping him quiet for the first month- when what he really needed was to be involoved in therapy from the start ( big guilt here for not doing research and being a little smarter. We should have know that! )

So far Jennifer - the contact in Ohio hasn't returned my call- but it was late when I left the message yesterday.

We are going to go ahead and keep the appt this morning with the vet that is doing the laser deep muscle treatment. Carrie said any therapy at this point ( the right kind) is a plus.

She couldn't believe that they put Max on the aquatreadmill and used it as an evaluation tool. She says that it is something they work up to- to build endurance. And that if he was just "timid" at being thrown in - he was doing well... says most dogs would have been crazy to be thrown in like that with no working up to , and getting comfortable with the water.

I could go on and on- but I promised a SHORT update!

Can't say Thank you enough times for the support and leads for treatment.
I think this time we are really on our way!

Yeah!
Don't sweat the past. You can't undo it and you were doing what you were told. We can't know everything - I sure don't. Heavens, my kids survived sleeping on their stomachs, which is a big no-no now. 8O
Think of it as Max has had time to heal post-op and is now ready to work hard.
Glad to hear the positive update.

BTW, your avatar is adorable, but do you think you could have made it any smaller.
lol...^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

cant wait to hear more good news!
Thank you for the update on Max! Don't think about the past just keep heading toward the future. Go Max!

Keep strong,
I agree not to dwell on the past. Frankly, a month just isn't that long. Just for comparison, it took me seven months to figure out what Chumley needed. I am so thrilled that you talked to Carrie and she was able to give you a good lead. I hope the laser therapy goes well!

Go Max Go!

And by the way, no one here minds the long updates. You never know what information might be useful for the next person who is in need. . .
I have to agree with Val, do not worry about the long updates. I for one do not post much but come to view this board often. I have come across great information which has helped me out and I have read invaluable info which I will keep stored away in the event I ever need it. That is one of the purposes of the board, sharing experiences to get help and/or help others.

I hope your boy gets better real soon. I am amazed by Chumley's progress and know I will read the same about Max.

Take good care.
Jack

PS Val, I am happy to see Chum is finally home, she looks so happy to be home from her picture.
I'm so glad you spoke with Carrie! Sounds like she is definitely a positive person and lifted yours (and ours) spirits as well! Try not to beat yourself up. You were doing what you thought was right at the time.
LOL- I saw that picture and thought the same thing. I am having a heck of a time loading anything... yes- it can be smaller- I deleted and am going to try again

We just returned from Max's laser therapy- and yet another evaluation. Deep pain is good- pulled back both back legs HARD when the tech was trimming his nails. Stood for at least 15 seconds- while not all the way upright he STOOD! Now keep in mind - this is a country vet that works on cows and horses as well as small animals.. so he is pretty vocal. In his words- "What in the H*LL makes anyone think he will never walk again"??? He calls them "foo- foo" techs.... whatever that means.

Max had a treatment- which he seemed to love- laid back and was really relaxed. This is supposed to relieve swelling and help with the regeneration of nerves. He is going three times a week- not just for the laser- but for PT. It's funny- Carrie told us to stand him up and rock him from front legs to back legs- and that is the first thing that the Vet did!!!!! Couldn't believe it. This is going to be out treatment - at least until I talk to the referal from Carrie.

Get this- he can even come to the house and do the laser if we can't make it to the office...said he could easlily come by on his rounds out here in the country.

Sent us home with 6 excercises to do with Max- including range of motion and a foot massage, and we are scheduled again for M-W-F of next week.

One thing he did mention - and I wanted to throw out- was the drug Trixsyn??? Anyon heard of it- or used t?

We had our last OES for 12 years- and she died of a sudden stroke. I have found myself thinking of Sassafras a lot lately as we get Max through this time. They become such a part of our lives and our hearts. We mourned so for Sassie- she died alone while we were out to dinner, and it took a long time be able to deal with that.

What ever it takes for this baby- we will do it!

I'm glad to hear that you are seeing such hopeful, positive signs for Max's recovery! :D You definitely shouldn't blame yourself, or dwell on the time lost...you have been super-doggie-parents, and doing all you possibly can for your guy! I wish I had some practical advise for you, but all I can do is send lots of :ghug: to you, and :cheer: to Max for being so brave!
Your avatar looks so much sweeter now that I can SEE it.
Yay!!! Country doc sounds fantastic!! I am so excited to hear how this progresses. I am thrilled that Max enjoyed the treatment. As for the drug, you can feel free to contact Carrie to see if she knows anything about it. She truly wants to help.
Sounds like better days are ahead!!! GOOD FOR YOU MAX!!!
Oh, I'm SO glad Max had a great first visit with the country vet!! You can tell he really does want to get better, bless his soul! Good luck with the laser muscle treatments - they sound fantastic! (Wonder if someone somewhere does them on humans?? :D )
