Hi shaggy! Welcome! I also found this site when I was contemplating/dreaming about/planning on getting a sheepdog and it helped me tremendously. I loved how everyone told stories of the funny things their sheepdogs did that made them laugh at the end of a long day. Of course, there is alot to learn re health, grooming and training too. There is alot of help on this board to point you in the direction for either a reputable breeder and/or rescue.
Have fun exploring. |
Welcome to the forum, Shaggy!
Do you have plans from where you're gonna get your furry child? If not yet, we understand how emotional buying a sheepdog can be. We've seen it all! It's really really HARD to walk away from a little cute ball of fur! The bonding between a person and a sheepdog puppy is quick, quick, quick. Unfortunately, the irresponsible breeders know this too. So to save yourself lots of heartache, I would recommend that you deal with only the best breeders, and stay away from anybody who you find through an all breed puppy selling website. Get references, then come here and ask questions in public or through the forum's private messaging PM system. Either way, I am looking forward to reading stories (and seeing pictures!) of your new addition! Again, welcome! |
thanks very much for the welcome, living in Brampton, Ontario, I am hoping for a breeder nearby. I have been reading many, many posts about breeders, problems, puppy mills, prices etc. I feel like I am getting a good grasp on things. I have noticed two breeders I like in particular, connected to this website. I still have lots to check out, and enough time to do so. We have decided to plan this and do what's right for our family and a new puppy !!! I really appreciate everyone's input, advice, and help. Though people may seem thick and difficult, all the effort that you all put forth is necessary and a blessing!!! |
Welcome to the forum! We are waiting to get our puppy too. This is a valueable website. You are lucky you found it before you chose a breeder, as this site is so helpful in that area. Good luck on your search! |
Welcome to the forum!
I would recommend contacting someone through our national breed club, www.oesocc.org , and they can refer you to a reputable breeder Good luck! |
Hi and welcome to OES, I wish I had known about this site before I got my little darling Dutch , not that I'm unhappy with her at all nor would I trade her for anything but I would have looked for an older rescue pup |
Rescue OES are very hard to find in Ontario.... but when we're ready for a 2nd we'll be putting ourselves on a waiting list for one. |
You need to find someone with an OES, put your hands on one and learn about grooming. It is something that needs to be taught firsthand.
That way you also learn about bum and ear cleaning. And.....hopefully get to enjoy a few wetbeard sheepie kisses |
