This basically says that the store has 2 sites. The first one is the one you would find online, and then the other is in the store that is an identical match with higher prices. So you get a price online and go to the store to only have them say the price you saw was wrong. They use their second site to confirm you're a retard, and you don't get a discount! Most of the employees don't know. http://www.courant.com/news/local/hc-wa ... lity-local |

Interesting.....
I have compared prices on the Best Buy website, and ordered directly from the website using the free delivery option - in-store pickup. When I got to the store to pick up my online order, I noticed that the price of the item in-store was more than I had paid for my online order. I just made a mental note right then: always order online and choose in-store pickup rather than checking out prices online and then purchasing in the store. That's one way to make sure you get the online price! |
I suppose you could also take a print out of the online price you saw with you. I imagine since most print outs of online sites have the date and everything on the bottom, they really can't help but honor it. that still seems pretty sneaky!
In their defense though... I was very pleasantly surpirsed this past holiday season, when they matched the price of Mike's speaker system with that of circuit city's sale price across the street, and didn't even ask me to show them an add or anything! The staff, at least at that location was very friendly and helpful... but as always Caveat Empor! |
No matter how AWESOME their customer service, how many discounts they have given or will give...
doing this "knowingly" is wrong especially when you know you're doing it to cheat customers. |
It honestly surprises me that they'd actually be doing that... Their corporate headquarters is a mile down the road from me... I drive by the building every day. I'd expect to hear something from the MN news if BB was doing something like that, as they are such a large employer in our state. It'll be interesting to see if the MN attourney general gets involved, since they are based here, not in CT... Hmm. I'll keeping my eye on this. |
Not a surprise to us. We left Bestbuy when we were going
to buy a DVD player because they had 2 different prices listed on the online and the store. They said , well our online price is sometimes much lower. We said fine and walked out! There was a nice Chinese buffet next -had a great lunch and finally got the DVD player same one at Circuit City. (They are a tricky bunch too at times ) |

(They are a tricky bunch too at times ) You did the right thing, but they were right, and honest, about their pricing. And guess what, Circuit City does the same thing. Online prices are many times cheaper on the web sites. If you are buying electronics, it pays to spend time not only online, but looking in the stores. Is it wrong to have a dummy web site set up to show in-store customers a different price? Yes. Is it wrong, or devious to have a lower price on the web site? No. You were smart enough to call their bluff and go to CC. But you also could have easily gone home and ordered online. |
I recall when Circuit City opened in this area that I always felt like I needed to take a shower after leaving the store.
We've had Best Buy tell us that they 1) won't match internet prices at all, that they 2) won't match internet prices from "small sites". We have told them with out feet: You won't have the opportunity to match any prices on anything I buy, if I can possibly avoid you. In addition, the local Best Buy here needed a management upgrade- The shelves were VERY frequently empty of product. Lately it has seemed better. My brother has a $50 BB gift certificate in his pocket from a year and a half ago; he can't find anything there that is interesting and/or fairly priced. We just went and browsed there together last Thursday. I miss honest hard-goods retailers, even if they were a little more expensive. Where is my old Lechmere Sales??? |
Circuit City will beat any Best Buy online price by 10% anyway. The few times that I've bought something at CC, and had them look it up online, I wound up getting the item even cheaper. Perhaps they also have a secret web site with even cheaper prices, too. |

My recall is that they would not deliver the item for instore pick up. They were a stressful uptight bunch. I want to feel happy spending for electronics. And................ why should I give them any business when I can relax and be happy at the Chinese Buffet. Ron, We miss Lechmere Sales too and Fontaines after for broasted chicken. Too bad BB didn't sell a time machine |
If it you don't feel warm and fuzzy after buying a piece of electronic equipment, you didn't make the right purchase...
...or you aren't a guy. |
I am not sure that I ever ate at Fontaines. I think I ate at the Embers in Mattapan?
