New dog to 2 dog house!

We've just introduced an 8 month old Springer Spaniel to our 2 dog house (labrador 11 yrs) Collie X (5 yrs). He is young and very active but taking well to his new home. A subject already touched on on your site and one which we are having problems with is peeing when excited. Ronnie (pup) is still young and mainly house trained but insists on peeing when we first get up in the morning or go home for lunch and in the evening. Im sure its just excitement but wondered if there were any other tips anyone can share with us. Have tried being calm and taking him straight out for a walk but he doesnt wait till he even gets to the door!!!

You're already trying the things I would have suggested....

Maybe try carrying Ronnie to the door (while staying very calm) to go outside. Maybe he'll hold it because he doesn't want to pee on you???

We've never had this problem (thankfully) so I can't be of much help.
I have no words of wisdom, but your pup has a great name!
 Ronnie

I would suggest keeping his water away at night if you aren't already....
He's probably too big at 8 months old to carry outside, but getting him out quickly and calmly without reacting AT ALL to him peeing on the way out may settle him. If you have reacted (doesn't matter how) he may feel anxious about it and exacerbate the problem. Try just not reacting whatsoever to him peeing on the way outside and just tons of praise when he finishes outside.
I found (with my collie) when coming in or getting up in the morning, just to go straight into the kitchen, I say out for wee weeies (firmly), walk towards the backdoor and say come on Jack out for wee weeies and praise him whilst he's doing his thing - but its trying to do all that whilst your sheepie is clambering all over you for attention lol - Jack can really hold it now, I think like Stacey said, not to get them too excited - it takes a while and I know how mad and excitable springers are lol good luck, he'll get there
Thanks guys how lovely to log on this morning to find so many helpful comments. I have also just realised this is a sheepdog website so apologies for gatecrashing. Ronnie and I thank you for your useful advice all of which we are trying but the main thing that comes across is to relax and give these things time ..... lovely seeing all your pics I will endeavour to post one of Ronnie if thats OK and Id love to keep picking your brains on dog matters!!! woof for now :)
