Pregnant rescue kitty

I can't remember if i told you guys about the pregnant kitty I have here... I don't see a post about it, so I will anyway...
A woman was going to throw her cat in the river because it was bloated and she though it had a bladder infection and couldn't afford to take it to the vet. Her neighbor stopped her and now I have the cat here. She is due anytime now. I've had her here for 6 days now, and have been able to feel the babies move vigorously the whole time so I know it can't be long, since you can't usually feel them moving so strongly until the last week.
I'm impatient though, I wish she would hurry up! LOl I want to see the babies! LOL
Anyway, this cat is the most affectionate cat I've ever seen. She is such a sweetheart, from the very first moment I picked her up she wrapped her paws around my neck and purred like crazy. W've named her Cleo. She is mostly black, but she's a tortishell, some orange scattered here and there. She looks a lot like my other cat Isis, but more black.
So, for any cat lovers here, I will keep you updated and post pics of the kittens when they finally arrive! :)

Oh my goodness! How cute! I have no words for the woman who wanted to drown her cat  I wish you lots of luck! It is so exciting! I would get some kitten formula just in case she doesn't have enouph milk, or some other problem. Better safe then sorry, I say. Oh, pleeeease post pictures when the kittens come! :!: :) :!:
Yes I did get some kitten milk replacer and little bottles just in case. I bottle fed my big fat cat Winston from when he was approx 7-10 days old.
I also have little rounded tip scissors sterilized and thread in case she doesn't cut the cords. Most litters of siamese I've had though have done everything on their own just fine. But, it is better to be safe than sorry.
The woman who was going to throw her in the river was not all there you know? I'm glad the neighbor saved her, and glad I get to keep her! :)
Yeah, I figured as much. Anyone who would kill their cat because she couldn't figure out that she was pregnant, is, what's the politically correct word, NUTS. It is good that you have her! Gosh, what are you gonna do with all those kittens? :D 8O Have you ever heard of "Cat Videos"? My friend got me one, its basically birds and squirrels running around for like an hour and a half. My two sit there transfixed in front of the TV and try to catch the birdies! Its hysterical! I am going to foward you the message my hubby sent to our friends with the pictures of the kittens watching TV. Ignore the message in the email. Scroll to the bottom for pics. They are such caracters! Oh, I LOVE your fat cat Winston! He looks like a cartoon caracter! :D
What's your email? I don't know how to paste the picture into the pm button.

[AAAAACK! -Ron]
yeah, that would be Ron's response! i have to use the upstais computer to email. the laptop is not cooperating. will do it in little bit.
Are we not supposed to post email addresses in here Ron? Sorry if I did an oops....
Well, Ron said that if we do it we do it at our own risk for some one can get a hold of it and send us junk emails. But I think that is as far as it can go.
Don't forget you can alway send each other private messages. At the top of the page click on I have no new messages or whatever it might say and select new post. That way no one you dont want to can see your emal address or what ever private message you might have to say.
just a thought
cher
I would never give out my personal email addy on the net. Hotmail is mostly for junk mail, and i filter out people I know. I get sooo much junk at both my hotmail and yahoo accounts. Yahoo is strictly junk, I simply delete everything. Hotmail is where all my notifications from here and a couple other forums I go to, as well as oes-list. Most of that goes through a junk mail filter and is deleted, and personal stuff goes to the inbox. Then I have a regular email addy that I give to people I've gotten to know a little better. :)
By the way... Cleo is having contractions :)
That doesn't necessarily mean she is going to have them tonight, I've seen cats go out of labor and start back up again a few days later... but i think it will be tonight or tomorrow sometime. :)
you are going to have your hands full. You are so lucky. the kittens we have are about ready to be adopted and i'm really going to miss them.
Still no kittens! I stayed up with her all night thinking she would have them for sure, and finally went to bed at 3am because she still wasn't pushing yet. I thought by this morning she would have at least had one or been closer to giving birth, but no, it seems she's not even really having contractions now. Mild ones, but not the hard ones like she had for a while last night.
Hopefully soon... *sigh*
Babies, yet......?
Right, babies yet????
Still no babies!!! No guinea pig babies, no kittens.... maybe they are waiting for my daughter to get home....lol....
Still no babies... I am soooo tired, since I am up through the night to check on them, and for 6 days before I was up most of every night with my youngest son who had a fever over 103 that just wouldn't go away.
And I have a feeling the first night I decide to just go to bed is the night they'll have them! LOL
Does Cleo seem comfortable in her birthing box? Some queens will delay labor until they feel comfortable. You might make sure none of the other fur family can disturb her. Maybe even a hot water bottle with blankets wrapped around to make her relax.
Has her temp dropped yet? That can be a good indicator in some queens. It will drop below 99. I am glad she has you to look after her, and I am ready to hear all about those babies.
SO, Miss Cleo when do we get to hear about some babies? Stormi
I've always been told that the mama kitty's milk will come in within 24 hours of giving birth. This was always true with my cats.
I used to have one that wanted me with her when she was having her kittens, too. If I wasn't around when it was time, she'd come looking for me, even had one on the basement floor trying to get to me. For her last litter, I put her box in my room next to my bed, so I'd be near her when she was ready. Maybe that won't work for you, with Dancer already being in the room! LOL!

She seems comfortable no matter where she is, this is the most laid back cat on the face of the planet! LOL She just wants me to stay with her.
She is delaying I think untill I stay with her at all times, which I will do once I'm sure she is getting on with it....
She's in my daughter's bedroom, with the door shut, so no other cats can get in there, nor the dog, although when I go in she tries to come out and rubs right up against Dancer...LOL
Hot water bottles are not really a good idea, to easy for them to get cold fast and can chill the kittens when they are wet and need to be warm. A kitten whose body temp drops at birth has a 25% mortality rate. Also, they are pliable, so a kitten may suffocate by getting it's little face stuck up against it. Maybe some other people have tried them with success, but I don't think I would unless I were not going to leave the room at all.
Most queens temp does drop 12-24 hours before labor, but a queen who is delaying may have a dropped temp for a week before she delivers. Cleo's dropped a couple days ago... lol... and she's been full of milk for a week now....
I haven't seen any discharge out of Cleo, but I had one himalayan who lost her mucous plug 10 days before she delivered, which is supposed to be a sure fire sign that labor has begun. LOL ... I always end up with cats who are not so text book.... LOL
I also had a burmese who never showed any signs of labor what so ever, and because she was only at day 62 I didn't suspect a thing, most of my cats went at least one day overdue. Shiann (the burmese) simply crawled up on my lap one night while I was sitting on the couch watching tv and proceeded to deliver a kitten right there!
Babies yet?????
Still no kittens, though Cleo is showing some nesting behaviour.... here is a pic of her belly I took a few minutes ago... LOL

We DO however have guinea pig babies! I'm going to post a pic of them in another post! :)
Still no kittens *sigh*
AAAAARRRRRGGGGHHHH!!!!!! 8O LOL I hope Marie doesn't give me this much grief. You might need a trip to the vet, going overdue to many days can be dangerous for all of them. An ultrasound should be able to detect if the kittens are fully developed. Is she showing any more signs of starting or stopping labor? Since Ashley doesn't get home until tomorrow, Cleo is waiting for her. She has decided since she is supposed to deliver in her room that she should at least let her be there. LOL Hopefully tomorroow. Stormi and co.
Yep already did, vet says she is definitely overdue by at least a few days and that they and her are fine. Since there is no discharge and she never started pushing it's ok for her to hang on a bit. Probably because she was malnourished, she's beefing up those babies a bit before they come out.
She does seem to be having contractions again, but nothing else yet.
Ashley comes home tomorrow!!!! YAY!!!!!!
Still no kittens..... :x
I had a stray kitty who had kittens she gave birth to them in the middle of the night in the morning there were 6 kittens and mama. We called our shelter and they came and got her and the kittens and they were all adopted. We have lots of stray cats and other critters that come out at night and wanted the new family to have a good home. The mama was a little protective about her kittens and realized it was us she let us see her kittens. we put water and food in her house. We made a house for the stray cat with lots of soft towels and covered it with a plastic bag we made a door with material for her to go in and out. That is so cool having kittens being born it certainly is a miracle to see, I pray all goes well.
*Taps her fingers*
LOL.... I still don't think there are kittens, but I haven't checked her yet since my daughter is still sleeping.... soon though!
LOL Helen, you are too funny!!!! :D :D
Nothin.... 8O
*Taps harder*
Well ladies and gents! Her temp is down to 99.3! A normal cats temp is 101-102, and a queens temp always drops 12 hours or so before labor. I didn't take her temp till about 3pm, so it may have dropped this morning, i don't know. MOST cats follow this rule, however, I did have one cat years ago whose temperature dropped 3 days before delivering, so I'm not counting on it yet! LOL
Go Cleo Go! We are excited about your babies and we want to hear all about it. Good luck, Stormi

LOL Nice emotiocons! Expresses your feelings exactly, hah? LOL Come on, Miss Cleo, the oes.org world is waiting!!!!!!!!! :D
Well, she's definitely in labor now! She's having very strong contractions every 2 or 3 minutes and washing like crazy, and staying in the box I made up for her. YAY!!!
I'll let you know when we have babies!
Woo-HOoo! Babies are on the way. I want to hear all about everything! How exciting! I will keep her in my prayers for a safe healthy delivery. Stormi and co.
Well, still no babies, but her labor is definitely intensifying. I think she would have had them a while ago if it hadn't been so loud here, the dogs were carrying on, four kids yelling and playing, sheesh. Poor girl. Well, the younger kids are gone to bed now and the dogs have settled, so hopefully this poor girl can get it over with. I'm guessing we'll have our first kitten by midnight. And if I can get this other computer running I can post as she's having them! I suppose i could always take the laptop in that room now that it's all hooked into the netowrk :)
OK, anything??? Any kittens? Is she doing ok? I am so excited! :D
We're working on it! LOL
Cleo finally had her first kitten at 2:30am, her second at 2:50am, her third at 3:10am and her fourth at 3:30am. She's taking a bit of a breather, but she's not done yet! There are still babies moving around in there! So far we have a pure grey girl, a pure black boy with a tiny white tip on his tail, a pure black girl, who may have a bit of white on her forehead, and and orange boy!
Gotta go!
Congratulations! yay Cleo I bet your babies are beautiful.
Willow, have you been able to get any sleep yet?
I hope so. Give them lots of love from Corey (my son the kitty lover) and I
cher
LOL, nope, no sleep yet, I've been up with her the whole time, and it's a good thing too because for the first 4 she didn't break open the sacs or cut the cords or clean off their heads. The fifth one was born about 4 am and she finally figured it out! LOL She's not done yet though, I know for sure there is one more in there, maybe more!
She's tired, but she's doing very well and seems very happy with her babies. :)
Aaaahhhh, I am so glad that she is having her babies, FINALLY! Its a good thing that you were there to help her along, or it looks like she would of lost the first four kittens! I never saw kittens being born, it must be amazing! Let us know how it goes.
I am also loving this miracle of life. I had one cat who with his brother was dropped off in someone's driveway. I adopted him and had 17 and a half years of joy. When Stacey wrote orange boy I thought of my cat Fuzzy. I am wishing everyone well and congrats Stacey for rescuing this kitty from a moron!!!!!
Woohoo! I am so glad everyone is doing good and healthy. How exciting! It sounds so neat to see all the colors and patterns that show up in her litter. What a big litter she is having! I can't wait to hear more. Thank you for sharing the good news. Stormi and co
Well, so far still just five. She may be done, but I was sure I felt another one and still can. It may only be her uterus contracting back down to size though. She is very relaxed and enjoying her babies. I've taken lots of pics and should have them posted soon!
Would you guys like to see pics all the way through the birth or just the nice dried off pics? LOL
All of them!!!!! Please!!!!!! :D
Since in a few weeks, I will be experiencing all of this fun, I would also like to see ALL of the pictures. I can't wait to see I all of the beautiful kittens. My kittens will be born all white, so I get a second surprise when I see the color and patterns that show up a few days to a couple of weeks later. Thanks for keeping us updated. Stormi
I used to love that part of raising my cats, seeing all the colors develop. That was half the fun!
Anyway... here goes ... the pics are in order, from pushing, to delivery, to drying off, to done!
The first one born was the grey female, at 2:30 am, then the black male with a tiny white tip on his tail at 2:50 am, then the mostly black torti female who looks like her mom at 3:10am, then the little orange boy at 3:30am, then the orange and white boy at 4am.
We've nicknamed them all...lol.... in order... Church, Ramses, Sukura, Emerson and Wallace. LOL

I hope it's not too many pics! I'm sorry if it slows any of your computers down loading it, I've shrunk them down fairly small.
Great pictures! How cute they are (in the later pictures of course! lol).

Thanks!
Kristen
Thank you Stacey, I loved all of them. She looks like such a great Mommy. I am so glad that all of them are healthy and that Cleo is doing well. Is she nursing all of them? The pictures were there as soon as I opened the post, so it didn't slow my computer down. We will have to have updates  LOL
Thanks, Stormi (wishing more than ever that it was Marie's time. LOL)
Oh my goooooodneeeessss! THis was better then the discovery channel! I loved all the photoes! I am in love with the orange one!!! SO cute! I am so jelous! I want another kitty!!!! :D
This has been a wonderful experience for me... I miss raising kittens... but I just wanted to put a gentle reminder in here... since it is easy to fall in love with the idea of having kittens... I don't want to encourage anyone to allow their cats to have kittens just because. It was horrible what this girl has had to go through simply because of owner negligence. If she had been spayed she might still have a home with her owner, however stupid she may have been (the owner). She wouldn't have almost drowned, or been abused like that. Well, maybe with an owner like that who knows, but you get my point.
There are millions of animals abused, neglected, starving to death, and put to sleep.... if anyone really wants to experience a cat having kittens, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE offer to foster!!! Shelters need help all the time.
Oh my goodness they are soooooo cute!! Great job Cleo (& Stacey). The little orange one reminds me of the cat I had (Barley), he's so adorable. Thanks for sharing all the great pictures.

Sue
Just thought I'd let you know I had to take Cleo and the babies to the vet today. I wasn't sure if the babies have diarreah or if Cleo is just not cleaning them. The vet thinks she's just not cleaning them, and that they seem ok for now, but unfortunately with neonatal kittens they can be fine one minute and gone the next :( I'm very worried about them. I don't know if maybe there is a problem with Cleo's milk, if they are sick, or if she's just not cleaning them. I can't decide if I should take them form her and hand raise them, which is hard to do and doesn't have a great success rate, or just let things be and hope for the best. We had to treat Cleo with advantage because she has fleas, and so the kittens had some on them as well, which can kill them very quickly from anemia. The advantage doesn't usually cause problems for the babies, but I have never done it before and am leary of it. I use advatage on all my other animals so the fleas must have come with Cleo. So I'm also worried about them having a reaction from being near that or if it gets into the milk. I'll know by tonight if they do have a reaction to it, I hope not. The vet says if they do have diarreah it is not coccidia or giardia because that takes two weeks to develop symptoms in newborns. It may be a bacterial infection, and if so I will have to try antibiotics, which is also not great for neonate kittens because they can cause diarreah and lack of appetite. *sigh*
I guess just hope... and wait....
:? Oh I am sorry! I hope they are doing better. I have no advice, have no experience with this. Please keep us posted on their wellbeing. Nothing in life is easy, hah? Hand in there!
Good news... babies and mom are doing great today. I applied advantage (a small dose) to Cleo yesterday, and kept her away from the babies till it was dry, and changed their bedding while she was out of the room. She is keeping them nice and clean today and everything looks good, and no fleas! Yay! :)
oh my... i think i wouldve been fine with just the dried off pics.... haha. but they certainly are adorable.
i hope everything is still going ok- im so excited for you and cleo!
are you keeping cleo or any of the kittens?
I think we will be keeping Cleo, she won me over quite quickly! :) We may keep one kitten, the grey female, Church, probably...
sorry for the graphic pics!
I took these yesterday, I wasn't able to get a pic of all of them separately as some were nursing and did not want to let go, lol, so for now just 4 :)
Here is Church

And Sukura

I'll have to get one of hungry Ramses later! LOL
Oh, they are all so adorable. How many days old are they now? I am getting more excited all the time with Miss Marie. I will have to wake her and show her the pictures. LOL I can tell her she will have cute little bundles like that very soon. Thanks for keeping us updated on the progress. Stormi
Um, I think they're 4 days old now? I had so little sleep in the weeks prior to their birth, and certainly the night of their birth it's hard to keep anything straight! I still haven't really caught up....lol....
I took some more pics today, these ones are a little better because the lighting is better and I used a white blanket for background...

Awwwww!!! I want the red one with the little white collar! He is soooo cute! I am very jelous! How is the mommy cat doing with feeding and all? Are the kittens all healthy?
Aww, the red with white collar looks like the one I am trying to catch. Is one of the kittens all black? How adorable all of them are! Do you find them homes or will the shelter do that? Thanks for more pictures, I am sure you must be exhausted. Stormi and co.
Momma cat is doing well, taking good care of them, and they all seem healthy, although the mom is thin.
Yes, one of the kittens is all black excsept for the tiniest white tip on his tail. His name is Ramses.... :)
The orange with white is Wallace. :)
I'll be finding homes for them, and 3 are spoken for, though I don't know which three. I think we might keep Church....maybe.... (the gray one)
I think Emerson, Wallace, and Ramses are spoken for, and that leaves Sukura. I'm sure we'll have no trouble finding her a home too, my daughters friends are all in love with the kittens....lol...
