It starts with Oscar coming to me, poking me with his nose, and staring at me with intense focus. So I sign, "potty" and then "speak". If he barks, time to get the coat, hat, gloves, and boots on. When I am just putting my boots on, Oscar disappears. So I stand in the laundry room, sweating under my layers, not wanting to track through the house with my messy boots. I can't call him, and I can stomp on the floor all I want but he'll never feel it so far away, because he is half way across the house, digging in his toy box for something to take out with us. It takes him a couple of minutes to find just the right toy (usually the "Oscarpus" pictured in our avatar). By the time he returns, very proud of himself, steam is coming out of my ears....and out of my coat, and from under my hat....... So I make him drop the toy, but he lunges for it at the last second before we get out the door. Depending upon my mood, I sometimes let him take it out with us (SUCKER!), but invariably, he drops it to sniff something and ends up peeing on it. What a knucklehead!!! |

Adorable! You must be very patient. . . |
Thanks Val! Oscar has taught me loads about patience. Just after posting the story, guess who poked me in the arm and had to go potty? And guess who took his clear Nylabone outside? And guess who dropped it in the snow? Guess who has to wait until spring to get his nylabone back? |
Lol. I can just picture the toy selection process. "Hmm, which one will make my 'business' even more satisfying?" |
I guess Oscar will be learning a little patience too! LOL. He sounds like quite the imp. |
LOL Cute story.... |
At this rate, you will have enough toys to stock the dog toy department come spring!
What a nut! |
Thats a cute story! I wonder what your yard will look like this spring?!! |
How cute that is and my image of you with all that steam is pretty cute also |
Come spring a whole box of "new" toys to discover. Hope he doesn't run out in the mean time.
I congratulatle your patience. I wouldn't have it. susan |
Ummmmm, really no chance of Oscar running out of toys....ever. He currently has two octopi in play, (with two more in my sewing bin needing repair) a giraffe, a dog, two teddies (plus one in sewing bin), a tire, rubber rings, a chicken, a blue gorilla and literally 100 others in his toy bin. That doesn't count the replacements in the laundry room cabinet. Hey, you gotta be prepared for anything, right?
Laurie and Oscar |
OMG!!! You're a great story teller and I can so visualize this and apologies for laughing at your expense!! You had me laughing throughout the story - what a character Oscar is!!! I'll look forward to reading more Oscar stories in the future. Marianne and the boys |
That's funny!! I can totally picture it, too. Silly Oscar.
Beau does that sometimes, too. He'll pick up the nearest toy and head to the door with it, but he always drops it right before he goes out the door. |
LMAO! |
Did Oscar pee on his Nylabone????? |
Oscar is just beyond cute. I found it really amazing that he speaks if he has to potty! What a smart and funny boy! |
As far as I know, he didn't pee on the Nylabone. Maybe then I might have been able to find it! It's still out there, somewhere........... |
I love it!!! LOL.....
Oscar's Mom Maybe Harley and Oscar are related? These pictures are of Harley at 6 months old , he is now over a year and still does this. If you look close at these pictures ( which may be hard to see) You will see a rope. He like Oscar has to have a potty toy ! The pictures are in order of the potty break. Now that he is over a year old we have got him to drop it in front of the door on the way out and he picks it up on the way in. I guess you can say we came to a compromise..... lol But at least we don't have that cold weather....... Antoinette |
Awww Oscar and Harley are sooo cute. Who would have ever thought of a "potty" toy? Only a sheepie! |
Harley, you are too cute! That is EXACTLY what Oscar does, except he doesn't bring the toy in.
And your grass looks like ours, with all of the yellow spots. (Except now we can't see it BECAUSE OF ALL OF THE STUPID SNOW!!!) |
Oscar's Mom I will tell you how I got my front yard grass back if you promise not to make fun of me!
It happened by accident but turned out GREAT! (Here are some pictures) First- dig out a good spot for a rock and stepping stone path. ( hard work).... Did that myself . I did get lucky the spot I picked had a drain to a swale in the back yard . Second - build a long planter on railroad tie wall. (To look pretty) Third - and hardest step 'Train you Sheepie to pee on stepping stones and down the drain' ......'Yes he does ! ' Actually he does pee on the stepping stones and down the drain but that is not what I originally made the rock walk way for. I had bad grass there and It looked so bad so I dug it out and made this rock walk way set up. Afterwards I was out front admiring my 2 weeks of hard work with Harley on his leash at my side when he decided to go pee in the drain. I was shocked! latter that day he walked over to that spot and did it again. So I thought why not? Lets see if this will work. Well it did! He now only goes pee in the drain or on the stepping stones and poo's in the grass. I take a old miracle-gro container and hook on my hose filled with a natural Castile liquid soap and hose down every other day .Peppermint always smells good! My neighbors think I am nuts but I keep telling them he just does it himself ! (I don't think they believe me...) I am really happy how it turned out ! So I ended last fall by re-sodding my front yard (which took great and is already showing green for spring) LOTS OF WORK ....... (Again did that myself to) . So there is the story of 'Saving Grass'. And Yes for those who want to see it I will take my camera out side and get a picture of Harley demonstrating how the drain works....LOL Antoinette |
Great landscaping!
...and you live in a very nice neighborhood! |
Gorgeous!! I love the landscaping and hardscaping. Beautiful neighborhood, too. |
Thanks !
I love to do landscaping but I think I am almost out of yard...... (my neighbors say I can just move on to their yards...LOL) Antoinette |
That's such a cute story. I can just imagine Oscar disappearing to search his toys for the perfect accompaniment to his sojourn. What an irresistable sheepie he is.
Bandaa great pics. Got a spare room for me? |
This is BRILLIANT! ...Oh HUNNY>>>got a spring job for ya! |
Antoinette, your home is lovely, and your landscaping is beautiful! I see the green drain and I am jealous!
BTW, snow has melted some. Still no Nylabone. Laurie |
Laurie it is almost April did you find the Nylabone ?
Antoinette |
I am happy to report that the Nylabone has been found, and is no worse for wear after its terrible ordeal out in the snow.
Also happy to report that there were no other victims of Oscar's obvious carelessness and neglect. All toys are now safe and sound in his toybox. Life is good. |
