http://razorgirls.org/mama_dog/ Guesses so far: Corgi Pit bull Cattle Dog Australian Shepherd |
|
She looks like she has some Cattle Dog in her.. |
I would agree on some cattle dog.
I wonder where she gets that coloring from. |
She looks a lot like my friend's Basenji/German Shepherd mix but with more brindle coloring. |
Catahoula Leopard dog? |
I would have said cattle dog/pit mix too. |
She is not an Australian shepherd. |
I'd have guessed Shepherd/Pit mix. |
I say Cattle Dog/Pit, but her foster mom is very insistent that she is not a pit. I really didn't see her for that long during pick up and these pictures aren't very clear... so I'll trust her on this one.
What other dogs have brindle coloring? |
Brindle boxer mix |
I say German Shepard/Pit Bull Mix too. Nice coloring. |
She has the head and face of a blue heeler/cattle dog.
Mixed with something else for the brown brindle colour. |
Blue HeelerXGerman ShepherdxBoxer or Pit (something with brindle)
This dog has the same size as a Blue heeler, the scruffier coat of a Shepherd, the longer nose of the heeler or shepherd. BUT the brindle markings come from a handful of dogs. The boxer is not necessarily a large dog, but the pit bull is more of the size the dog here is. Maybe not a pit bull, but one of these is probably in the mix somewhere..a bully breed with brindle. |
Definately has Heeler in her..(knows cause I've lived with Blue for 17 years and recognize that face anywhere!) Heelers are otherwise known as Australian Cattle Dogs.
Blue is mixed with Lab so has floppy ears but Blue Heelers generally have pointed ones, like this girl. This girl is mixed with Red Heeler and a wee bit of ???? The brindle coat could be due to the Heeler and might not necessarily be caused by another breed as Blue mixed with Lab has a mottled coat and I've seen Heeler mixes with brindled coats. Lisa from Aus would also have a good perspective as her sister owns a Heeler if I'm correct ,and seems like many do in that country of origin. She's been around a lot of them too. Photo of Blue at age 17 (last year) Marianne and the boys I'd label her Red Heeler X http://www.cattledog.com/misc/history.html Marianne and the boys |

I agree with Deb |

I was going to guess this with Australian cattle dog. |
Here is a link showing the Australian Cattle dog in blue and one is red.
She sure the heck looks like a lot of heeler in her, maybe say "G'day Mate" in an Aussie accent and if her ears prick up further, well YUP she has part aussie cattle dog in her lol. http://www.wolfweb.com.au/acd/acd.html |
My first impulse was German Shepherd/pit bull, but she's got something more petite in her lines. The brindle is what makes me think pit bull. I know a really sweet brindle pit bull with similar markings. The ears and eyes and much of the face looks shephard to me. I'm sure she's more than just 2 kinds of dog. |
Oh Yikes,
reread my post and I come across sounding like a know it all...apologies if I gave that impression. Heelers are med size dogs but have stocky builds and can often be mistaken for Pits at times if mixed with another breed. People always cross the street when I walk with Blue some nights..unlike the sheepie boys. Marianne and the boys |
Not know it all, just pretty sure of yourself!
Looking at the pictures of Australian Cattle Dogs (also called Heelers?!??), I think you're totally right. I'm not familiar with that breed so I didn't think of it, but they look to have square, large heads... which is what made the dog look like a pit mix to me. |
We had a border collie Blue heeler cross...when I was a little kid...I saw that immediately in the dog.
My cousin had the red heeler...my dog was black and white, and theirs was almost pure red heeler...they were amazing dogs, very family friendly, and compact smaller size...both dogs had the shorter nose, and droppy ears but smaller. Very athletic....very protective of me and my cousins. One time my dog didn't appreciate this grandma yelling angrily at her grandkids...my dog nipped her in the ankles as she walked back into the house. But everyone else...super friendly. |
I found a couple photos of red heelers/blue heelers. The coloring on these dogs is amazing.

Daisy is a Stumpy tail cattle dog, there born that way as there is a gene in them that produces the stumpy tail. No docking just the way they are.
There a seperate breed here now. Called "Stumpy Tail Cattle dogs". Wonderful hard working breed but they do have to go to the right homes as they were bred for working with tough Cattle. They bite hard even when in play, so they do deserve respect there as the instinct in them to nip hard is so ingrained in them. There a nuggety/hardy breed in shape as it protects them from cattle kicking them or trampling over them. My sisters working ones always have my respect when I visit. |
Sorry only my dog had the half flop of an ear...
The other dog looked just like Daisy in Marrianne pictures...but full tail. Anyways they were very very common in the community as working farm dogs. |

Marianne and the boys ohh thanks! Mama reminds me of Daisy... I think she is mostly Cattle Dog with a touch of something that would give her brindle. We have another "Cattle dog" mix who is looking less like a cattle dog everytime I look at her... I'll post her picture later today |
