Food dog...

Anyone here can give me a good recommended food for OES puppies?

What does your breeder recommend? Since they know their dogs best, they usually they have a brand that they suggest you keep the dog on for awhile.
The vet doctor said puppy food for large breed dog. He did'nt mentioned any brand. I'm giving them Nutro, but i noticed them they dont it that much that they are supposed to consume for one day. They will be 3 months on the 3rd of March, they can't even finish 1 & haf cup a day. But they drink a lot though. I'm thinking to switch them to another brand. Any suggestions?
I feed Canidae, it is a human grade food, have found it to work very well on puppies and adults. (about $34 per. 40# bag)
My puppies are 3 months also, eating approximately 2 cups per day.

As a breeder you can join their food plan, buy 5 get a coupon for 1 bag free. I assume your a breeder as your saying puppies?

I feed it to adults and puppies, have found that those yucky ear we get at times, (not ear infections) have all gone away, good stools on ALL of my dogs also. A lot of Bulldog breeders use it as it cuts down on skin problems that Bulldogs have.

Bhort, thanks for you info. I have two OES. I will wait what other members suggestions :) Like to have many options. By the way, where do you get that food dog Bhort? I am only familiar with the food dog i usually see in the stores.
You can go to their website and there is a store locator on there for an area close to you.

Pankoa,

Your pups might not be eating very much because they aren't fond of the taste of Nutro. My mom found that her puppy Gracie wasn't eating much of the food her breeder had recommended and then one day we were visiting with Barkley and Gracie was desperately trying to eat Barkley's food... I guess it just smelled better to her! Gracie was switched to a different food altogether (not the same as Barkley's), one that her vet recommended and she's had a healthy appetite ever since.

We feed Barkley "Purina Veterinary Large Breed Pediatric" (Puppy) food. It is not available at pet stores, because it is a vet diet, but you can get it at any vet's office that sells the Purina Vet diets (no, you don't need a prescription). Soon we will be switching to the "Purina Veterinary Joint Mobility" formula, which is an adult food that will help slow the onset of (or even prevent) arthritis.

Whatever you pick, I hope your puppies find it more appetizing!
I feed Laika Innova for Large breeds. Great food.

I fed Innova to 2 of my dogs for about 6 months, I did like it, the small amount you had to give them to maintain their weight was great but my only concern was the high protein,( this is also human grade dog food.)

Well the other problem with it for me was the price for the amount of food. It was something like $44 for 28 #'s. It was way too expensive to feed when you have 10 dogs and a litter of puppies would eat you out of house and home.

I was surprised to find this out, but there is no USDA standard for "human grade food." Human grade food is what the individual dog food company considers to be human grade, which can mean a lot of things. With no standard in place, it's pretty safe to assume that a lot of liberties are taken with that term. I feed Merrick, which I had thought was "human grade" and now I really do not trust it as I did in the past. I'm still confident that it's an excellent food but I also question what this company truly thinks is fit for human consumption. I do remember at a dog show that I went to, they were handing out samples of the canned food for people to try so that makes me feel a little better. Can you imagine the lawsuits is someone got sick and come to find out, they had eaten roadkill?
Thank you to all the nice suggestions... i really appreciate it. My husband and i been doing some research what will be the best for our furrgirls. We will write down on what we found from you and to our research and wait what will be the vet recommend. I found the top dog food rated reviews in the http://www.consumersearch.com/www/famil ... index.html consumersearch.com.

Acccg. to my husband research :Top rated & highly recommended Dog foods by consumer (based on the search engine)
1. Natural Balance Ultra Premium
2. Chicken Soup for the dog Lover Soul
3. California Natural Lamb or Chicken & Rice
4. Innova dog food for puppies (since we have pups)
5. Wellness Super5Mix
6. Canidae

They are mostly have the same good reviews though. The only problem that we may have getting the right food is the store locator. Some are only available on line or retailer store. I'm lucky with the Natural Balance, it's available in Petco 20-30 miles away from home.
If you don't already, subscribe to Whole Dog Journal. It's like $25 for a year They put out lists and reviews of the highest quality foods, both canned and dry as well as other holistic dog advice. It's really good and well worth the money.
Butterscoth thank you for the info (Whole dog Journal) I will subscribe to it. That's help me a lot on choosing food for my girls. I thought of switching them to Iams because you can find it in any store. But after reading the bad article to this brand then i started to worry....... Thanks to forum OES.ORG! To all the members always willing to help and share their experties.

Iams/Eukanuba actually rate high on the list of foods no longer considered super premium. They've gotten a bad knock due to bad publicity thanks to peta, and because they lowered their prices and tried to become more available, but really IMO you need to go with what your dog does best on.
I've tried tons of so called super premium foods and none of them produce the great results Iams and Eukanuba have for my dogs for years, so that's what I'm going back to.
In that link I posted to the "Grade Your Dog Food" thread, Iams rates 92, and Eukanuba 99. Even without those numbers, I'm going by my dogs. They like it, and they do fantastic on it.
Hi Dayton, Tx from Beaumont, Tx! We are new to the forum but not to OES. We have had OES since 1984 and think they are the best dogs ever! We tried all the "gourmet" dog foods but they always caused digestive problems in our dogs. So we, by trial and error found that plain old dry puppy chow and dog chow agreed perfectly with our dogs and their sensitive systems. Our girl now is at the age where she has to watch her weight and she is quite happy on her Healthy Weight Beneful dry dog food. I hope you enjoy you OES as much as we have enjoyed ours. They are the best! :D
I feed Obe Innova large breed puppy as it was recommended by the vet and the pet store in Evergreen. It is available at both places as well.
A BIG thanks to all the advices and helpful info regarding food dog. We're still searching thou where to find a store that near to our place. We had checked all the store but most of them are the common commercial food dog that are available. It's so hard to find the store who carries the good quality food dog. We're not giving up yet. :P
Do some internet searching too. Some places have really reasonable shipping and will even just let you sign up for a monthly program so you never have to remember to order every month. With the prices of gas these days, $10 or so for shipping really isn't bad!
