welcome jenn
like everythink nails need to be cut short even dog nails so i think you need to cut them wendy and gismo from belgium |
Trim the nails weekly to keep them real short. Some grow quite quickly.
If they are still going click click on the floor, you could try of a night time some Little kids socks on there feet to muffle the sound, but that depends on wether they want to keep them on & not try and pull them off . Still I think if you keep regular trimming of the nails & keep them short then the click, click, click should go away. |
If their nails have grown too long, the quicks may have grown too long as well so you can't cut enough nail to make them short enough without cutting the quick. You may need to keep trimming them back every few days until they are short enough. Also, I am not familiar with Shar-Pei dogs, so perhaps it is natural for their nails to be clicking on the floor?
You know you could always get some area rugs and put them down covering your floors in your bedroom. Or you could get a "white noise" machine to help mask the sound of their clicking. Good luck! |
Yes there is something you can do!
Check this out: http://www.petedge.com/jump.jsp?itemType=INDEX&itemID=184 Here is a page with several different types of nail caps. They are soft, and decrease the sound of the nails on the floor. I suggest you either cut them shorter first of grind them down before you use these. Seems like an alternative anyway. Shellie |
If it's at night that this bothers you, you can always lock your dog up. That would work!
My dog's moving around drove me BONKERS at night so... I LOCKED HER UP! She sleeps in the bed w/me now that my husband is temp. gone, but I'm on the verge of LOCKING HER OUT again. |
Hi Jenn,
Welcome to the forum. I know what you mean as I have three dogs and laminate flooring. My oldest dog who despises having his nails cut can be heard "clicking" all over the house. I know it's nail trimming time. What everyone is telling you works..trim the nails or take them in to the vets office and have them show you how to do it. Cost is minimal aprox 5 to 10 dollars or take them to a groomers and make an appt for nails only. Most indoor dogs don't get the chance to naturally trim/ wear down their nails as they would, if they spend time outdoors or those that walk daily on sidewalks. My oldest dog is slowing down somewhat in walks and outdoor romps that I notice his nails are longer than usual. This week no clicking!! Good luck to you! Marianne and the boys |
