A conversation ensured between our saleslady, my husband and I , and another customer. The saleslady and the customer are both in the "puppy"market", so we spoke a few minutes about getting a puppy. No one was going to buy one a pet store...so that was good, I thought. Imagine how I felt as we continued to talk.. ..... The saleslady has done her research and is looking at getting a "puggle"....they are a Pug/Beagle cross...She is checking the papers for breeders.. The customer is getting a Yorkie, from a breeder. She is buying a "mini-Yorkie", a female, to breed with the fellow down the street who has a male. Then the eye doctor tell me he gets his Shih-Tzu from his friend who breeds them. The friend owns a pet store and sells them there...but he get them direct...He knows the guy treats his dogs well. Sometimes I just want to scream.. |

As bad as it sounds, though, honestly, I think it's a start. People are learning that getting a dog at a pet store is bad now, so they are trying to avoid that...and that was due to word getting out about what happens with pet stores and puppies. So now the word needs to get out about backyard breeders and the difference between 'treating the dogs well' and being a reputable breeder. It sounds like these people think they're doing the better thing by not going to the petstores...I have hope... |
i have a shihtzu and a mini poodle coming from the pound today.... shows you what good care these pocket pup breeders are taking! |

I agree 100% .....I wish there was more education out there readily available for people.....They should do commercial campaigns like they did for the Westminster commercials (pedigree). Although a slightly different subject, it was straight to the point. |
