Dog Behavior

Our dog, Koda, recently started flipping his food bowl over. Sometimes he eats it off the floor & sometimes not. Why did he start this behavior & how can we make him stop?

Your dog could not like sticking his face into a small bowl. This is the case for one of my dogs. She prefers it being on the ground, spread out so she can choose which one, but she likes to eat them in the order they fell on the floor, ...so she's just a mess (in the head).

I had another dog that felt the need to put things in portions, so had to empty his bowl of food each time.

How to stop? You could do what I did and be there when he eats. When he begins his turning the bowl, hold it down, and say NO. Worked for both my dogs. Eventually with you sitting there and not letting him, but telling him to eat... he gets it. Both of my dogs that did this stopped. Although one of them that I presently have now insists on taking a few in her mouth and moving it somewhere else to eat...

You could also try a bigger bowl and then a plate. Or handfeed.
Hi.... I have found the same thing with our boy Bing, we have had him for just over a year now. I have found that since he started living outside he tips his water bowl over. i have tried everything as i am worried that he has no water on a hot day, but no matter what i do, he manages to tip it over.

I have found that he only does this when nobody is home. In the beginning when i got home, i would hold the bucket infront of him and tell him off. Now he just see's me pick up the bucket and he knows he's in trouble.

It's very frustrating and i have been told that in my case it could be that he is upset about us leaving him at home so he does naughty things so that when we get home we go out there even if it is just to tell him off!!!!

Have you tried a hevier bowl such as some of the terracota ones you can get???
How about trying one of those slightly raised bowl holders? I have one and love it...can't tip and can't break. My bowls are stainless and the holder is sort of a wrought iron.
Ollie used to do that, so I bought a shallow bowl, looks like a quiche tin lol
lol our sheepie likes to take a bite go in the living room spit it out and eat it off of the rug. Our shepherd that died in December would only eat on carpet too. Her fav place was in the dining room tho. Dogs have funny qwirks LOL
London sticks her nose in the bowl of food and pushes all the pieces out of the bowl onto the floor. She will then lay down on the floor and proceed to eat one piece at a time.
