That's great news; I sure you can't wait to get her home; hope your progress is going well so you can enjoy her. |
Wonderful news! She is a star patient.
You have supported Chum through her tough times and now she will be your inspiration. I know you will be happy to have them back home, but please be careful. Maybe you should write a kid's book on Chummie and Maggie? You have some great pictures as illustrations. |
Wow!!! That's amazing that she has gotten so far in so short a time! That's Chummie, the trooper! |
That's so wonderful!! I'm so glad the surgery and recovery turned out for the best! Chum is amazing! What a strong will she has!!!! Sounds like she is happy too!!! I just wish you didn't get hurt, so you could go back to the morning walks with your friends! |
That is wonderful Chummie news. When she decided to get moving, she wasted no time.
When she comes home, do they still want her back for more rehab, or is she considered graduated and can continue yourself with more conditioning? Anyway, that is great news. |
That's fantastic news! I can't believe she has come this far in such a short time. It's amazing.
I hope your rehab goes as well as Chums Laurie |
Way to go Chummie , you are a winner for sure |
What a girl. Sounds like the surgery was a success. Way to go Chummie! |
WOOOOOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
I Chummie |
OMG I am so happy, she has me in awe, just love love love that amazing sheepie girl and I am so overwhelmed (crying happy tears) for you both
Love you chummie, you are a miracle sweetheart and your mommie is just the bestest. |
Chummie is SUPERDOG!!!
She's my HERO! |
Fantastic news Val! Chummie is progressing so quickly. She probably is feeling the best she has in years. Go Chummie. |
YAHZOOTIE!!!!!!!
WAY TO GO CHUMMIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
Wonderful news! Yay Chummie!!! |
WoW!!
Wonderful, wonderful news on Super Sheepie! |
Wonderful news!! That girl just amazes me with her "can do" attitude!! What an inspiration she is!! I just love her to pieces!!
I know you're anxious to get them both home. But, of course, you have to be sure you're up for it. We want you taking good care of Valerie, too. |
Amazing! C'mon, Val, let's see YOU heal that quickly! |
Wow, that is so impressive. Aren't you glad you opted for the surgery for her? |
That is fantastic news Val.. she really is a trooper...she could probably take you in race right now!!!!. |
Such great news!!! I am sure it boosts your own spirits to know that Chummie is doing so well |
I'm just delighted to hear this news |
I'm overjoyed at this fantastic news!!! Once again, what an inspiration that Chummie girl is!!! I can just picture those eyes of hers lighting up when someone comes for her. Such a storybook ending for that wonderful girl!!
I know you want them home, but please take care of yourself first, friend. You can't take the chance of either of them accidentally running into you in the house. Hopefully you have enough people that could help you out enough during the day so that all you'd have to do is enjoy their company. Please keep us posted. Our main concern now is YOU! |
Chummie Chummie Chummie
yey!! I am so happy for her and you!!!! |
So does this mean that Chum is well enough so that she and Maggie can share accommodations over there???? That would be cool for them, and maybe they'll take pity on you and reduce your daily rate!!! |
Awesome, awesome, awesome!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm so glad the surgery went well. Go Chummie! |
Maybe you can hook Maggie up to a cart so that she can take you for a ride and you can hold onto Chummie's lead...
Anyway, YEAH CHUMMIE! You have so much heart for a sheepie that has gone through so much! I hope that you both continue to heal. |
Great news about Chummie!!!
Woooo--Wooooo!!! I know you can't wait to get them home, but you need to think about yourself. They rely on you to care for them, so you need to be strong... Don't take on more than you can handle..they need you to be well!... |
We are so proud of you sweet Chummie!
Keep up the good work. You are an inspiration to us all! I hope your recovery is going well too Val. |
WOW -- now they just called to tell me they think Chummie is ready to move from medical boarding to regular boarding. She will be sharing a cabin with Maggie!! Hooray! The only thing keeping her there at this point is me.
I've got a followup appointment with my doctor on Friday and I am hoping I will have good news about my healing progress so that I can bring my doggies home! I've got dogwalkers lined up and the local pet store says they will deliver dog food. . . My friend is going to install a doggie door. What else do I need? |
Sheepie kisses |

Ron wrote: Valerie wrote: What else do I need? Some sort of a barrier to prevent them from banging into your leg would be good.Oddly enough, the few days I had Maggie here, she was really good and cautious around my leg. She seemed to get that she mustn't jump onto me. She initially tried to attack the crutches but stopped after a "leave it" command. And despite all her progress, I don't think Chummie is jumping yet. So I am not too worried about that . . What else? |
After I had my knee surgery I had to use my crutches to keep my girls away.
It must be nice to have girls who listen |
Are you up at all yet, or still totally bedridden? You have to make sure the girls (or at least Maggie, for right now) don't jump on the bed.
Do you have a wheelchair, or is it a possibility? Are you allowed to lower your leg yet? Do you have someone you can call in the middle of the night for either you or the dogs if need be? I'm always overly cautious about everything, almost to the point of paranoia. Being a mother will do that to you!! (Just ask my kids! ) I know you're anxious, but just make sure, double sure, and triple sure you're ready for this! |
Val, what about a walker - like they've been talking about in the funnies (Crankshaft, I think). The advantage, IMO, is that it offers a bit of protection from the front and sides. Notice the word bit.
When you go in Friday, ask about it. See if they have one you could try out. Another advantage to it is you can hang a bag or basket on it and carry stuff with you, if needed. The girls would probably vote for dog treats. |
Can't you just get one of those Jazzy motorized things to walk the dogs in?
Like this? http://www.mobilityproductinfo.com/prid ... -mob-pride And you can get a basket on it too! |
Val, let me help your nay-saying side for a while
If one of your girls were to have a momentary lapse in judgement and jump on you on the couch and sit down on your leg, or run into you while you're using a walker the results could be disasterous. I might think about waiting until the medicos think you are past re-injuring your leg under such circumstances. |
On a similar note~
After I dislocated my shoulder and was healing up, I asked my ortho Dr. when I could start riding my horse again. He replied (while looking over the top of his reading glasses at me) " Dawn, don't you think that's kind of like scheduling your next car accident??" It didn't stop me from riding, but I did wait a little bit longer than I would have! |
I'm glad to hear Chum is doing so well. I'm sure you all miss each other a ton! I'm glad to hear that she and Maggie can keep each other company until you are ready to bring them home. |
Are you ready for the simple, every day tasks? Can you bend over to refill the water & food bowls? I guess you could have the dog walker do that while they're there, huh? Just trying to help you think.... |
That is really great news about Chummie! |
Yeah Chummie!!! |
Okay. . . reality check. I appreciate the input. I was feeling bad for leaving them but I don't think I am ready. I am going to wait til the end of next week and see how I feel. They are going to move them into a joint cabin wth outside access and a webcam. I will let everyone know as soon as I have the webcam login info! |
So Val....to ensure there are no more accidents or disasters...
Can we install one of those webcams on YOU? |
ravenmoonart wrote: So Val....to ensure there are no more accidents or disasters...
Can we install one of those webcams on YOU? VALCAM !!!!!! Then we can all monitor you and make sure your doing OK LOL |
Oh no! Valcam! We'll have a Valeye view of Boulder!
Everything will be from a seated position at first, going back and forth from crossword puzzle to TV to sudoku to oes.org on the laptop to fridge to... |
Valerie wrote: The only thing keeping her there at this point is me.
I have to disagree with you here. Chummie would not be able to get to this point if it wasn't for YOU Don't pressure yourself into speeding things up. You need to take care of yourself first. Gigi |
What a great update! You must be so proud of Chummie! |
Val, I don't think you realize how many of us wish you'd adopt us!
You move to Colorado. A great place to live and play. You get top-notch medical care for the girls and for you. You send the girls to a spa - swimming, play dates, a rom with a view (for us anyway), massages, a superior staff of doctors available around the clock. A staff catering to their every whim, for a belly rub or a treat. Spa Camp! Adopt me, please! |
Absolutely hilarious. Was laughing so much, I think I strained my stiches!
Ummmm, no. lisaoes wrote: ravenmoonart wrote: So Val....to ensure there are no more accidents or disasters... Can we install one of those webcams on YOU? VALCAM !!!!!! Then we can all monitor you and make sure your doing OK LOL |
You guys have all really helped me alot in how to think through this. I am going to keep them there a bit longer. The therapists say that Chum is making strides everyday so they think she will benefit from being there another week. I've signed Maggie up to participate in the daycare so I know she will have fun too. She couldn't go at first because they insisted on giving a Bordatella vaccine and waiting a week for it to be effective.
So I am just going to focus on getting well myself for a bit longer. . . Mainly that means alot of sleeping. |
I think another week at Camp Spoiled is going to be great for them
I'm glad you're taking the time you need to recover, broken bones that don't set right can cause years of pain later. |
YAY!!!!! :excited: I'm SO relieved you've come to this conclusion!!
The girls are being VERY well cared for, so no worries there. Just concentrate on yourself now. Can't wait for the doggie webcam! How much fun that will be to see them in action - especially Chum!! |

Ha ha, I guess we'll be crashing their server! |
I think that's a good decision, Val. You need to take good care of yourself.
I can't wait to log in and watch Chum & Maggie play!! |
I'm all excited about ValCam! |
^^^
me too! |
I'm also really looking forward to the SHEEPIECAM! |
Great Chummie News!
I agree with everyone else you should take it easy and recover for a while longer before bringing them home. Especially now that you can watch them on the webcam. I remember seeing stairs in one of your pictures. Would Chum have to go down some stairs in the snow to go out? If so I would wait until you are absolutely sure she is strong enough to do that without any help from you. Glad to know all of your household is making great progress getting well! |
WOW! Wonderful news all around!! Hope you progress as well as chummy, just take your time, it seems that your sheepies are doing great at the "spa". Its just nice to have good news!! |
