FINALLY, today I ordered a LEATHER couch. After over a year of looking and pondering TODAY I found the PERFECT couch Thanks to Darcy who suggested checking out the "flexsteel" site I found a dealer in my area and today we went and "sat tested". I was going to post the link to the model on line but think I'll wait til it actually arrive (6 weeks ) and post the real pictures. YAHZOOTIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I finally found a couch [/b] |
|
Woohoo!! Congrats! Can't wait to see pics! |
Yay ginny, Congratulations, Enjoy the couch when it arrives, can't wait to see. I looooove the leather. |
Congratulations! Very exciting indeed! looking forward to pictures. |
Oh, I am so excited for you!!!! I definitely can relate. We spent an entire year looking for a couch too. Actively going to places once every few weeks to see what they had new, etc, and still haven't found one we love. So, I'm thrilled you did!!!
Can't wait for pics! |
Congrats! How wonderful that you finally get what you have been looking and researching!
What is it with today? We just bought a couch/loveseat this afternoon....Not quite the same thing, though...Not leather, and very inexpensive....a closing out sale....We are spontaneous couch-purchasers... |
Unfortunately I don't buy ANYTHING spontaneously , I'm one of those look at every available one, read research and then postpone. On the way home from the store I was acutually NAUSEOUS. I kept sayiing to Doug, what if it isn't the "right" one
I bet if you could look back at posts you'd find my "couch search" has gone on well over a year. |
We have Flexsteel furniture in our motorhome....
Most of it is great! |
YAY Ginny! Can't wait to see the new couch pics!:yay: |
Niether do I ginny, geez took 25 years to finally get ours. |
Great news
I understand the nauseous feeling.........I find if I don't like something initially that I come around to love it! Somehow I have the courage to blast thru my negative feelings and get it.....and then do the happy dance for years later. If I go with something I really love, then I find it's more emotional love not well thought out and I tire of it quickly......the "I just gotta have" doesn't work for me. So I hope your nauseous feeling is the same as I get. Your mind is leading but your heart is still unsure. Once they align, all will be great. susan |
I am one of those that gets a new sofa or new furniture when someone gives me one, used. I hate buying furniture. |

That will be interesting, Hmmm tasker and Ty on the new couch
Make sure mom is not around when you test it kids. |
AH HA HA HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA very funny.
(I did purchase the 5 year warranty against rips & tears ) |
Congrats Ginny, I am so happy for you! |
Woo Hoo! A couch! We haven't had a couch in almost a year.....the dogs don't know what to do with themselves...lol.
Congrats...and definitely can't wait for pics. |
Oh my gosh, Ginny! I bought flexsteel couches(two sofas and one love seat) today too - thanks partially to your discussions here. And I too am nauseous - due to cost and due to the fact that I am worried about the loveseat fitting - though I did move my current couch as a guide and it should work but I will feel better when it arrives.
I have been wanting a new basement couch for so long but thanks to the forum (and your quest) I had began to consider leather. I was also looking for a better situation for the family room couch since the hair is an issue and I hate the sloppy cover look (I must straighten it several times a day) only to look crappy as soon as someone sits on it and gets up. I was interested mainly in looks, yet still comfortable, for the family room. Tim and I went looking last night and I fell in love with a flexsteel at the second stop. Then we went to Lazy Boy and I found a sofa and love seat reclining combo for our basement. Way more than I wanted to pay and I had not intended to spend so much money this weekend. But I know the old save money attitude doesn't always make sense in the long run (like saving money on buying an OES I learned that the hard and expensive way ) Anyway I felt stupid buying the first couches I liked without more shopping even though I had been shopping online. So I dragged Tim's butt to nine more furniture stores today. Of course we ended up buying the first flexsteel couch I fell in love with for the family room - it was exactly what I was looking for and I didn't find anything close in looks. As we were waiting for the financing paperwork to finish I mentioned that we were in a hurry to get across to Lazy Boy. The owner asked what we were looking for and I said a smaller love seat. He asks me to look at this set on the floor and I said that is nice but the color is wrong - too light. Then he says there are lots of leather swatch choices. Then we sit on it and it is really nice. So Tim says what is the price and we check the tags. They are $1200 more than the Lazy Boy and that is giving me a coronary. I mention this and paying for two college educations, blah, blah, blah. The owner says I know you are in a hurry but how much time can you give me. After a full visual demonstration on Flexsteel versus other brands, which he also sells, he lets me look at leather samples. Then he gives me the price that I was going to pay at Lazy Boy! Needless to say I took it and I am thoroughly convinced that I bought the best sofas for my couch dweller Harry (future Olympian in the couch jumping competition) So thank you Ginny and thanks to Darcy and Jill (and anyone else I forgot) for all the input on leather couches. I also consulted with family and friends on leather durability with pets but I trusted you sheepie folks the most. LOL I even remembered that Flexsteel was recommended here! After the nausea subsides it is kind of exciting. We can wait together for delivery! |
Ginny getting a new couch!!!!!! This is cause for celebration!!!!
Words just can't express how happy I am for you!!!!!!!! Marianne and the boys |
congrats to both of you on your new couches!
I have never had a new one, so I will live through yours... pictures! |
How exciting! I'm happy for you. |
Congratulations to both of you on your purchase of your new couches!!!! It is a lot of work finding the perfect couch and I am glad you both did. We need pictures upon delivery. lol
May you and your sheepies rest comfortabley. |
I KNEW I could count on you guys to help the nausea go away JUDI- TWO COUCHES AND A LOVE SEAT????????????????? OH MY, you must be a total WRECK (I would be). Yes. we got the Flex steel demo too. My current couch is a Lane, suppsed to be a good couch but it bery VERY quickly lost it's "support" so I was majorly excited over the flex steel (did you get to see the cross section of the chair???IMPRESIVE). So now the WAITING begins.........they told us 5 or 6 weeks. |
Yes Ginny - We saw the cross section too! Amazing! Fortunately a lady at Broyhill earlier gave us this upholstry demonstration, even after we said thanks but we didn't see anything we were interested in. Thank goodness she did because it also helped us appreciate the foam/padding!
They told us 2-3 weeks on the family room and 6-8 on the basement pair. Now that I made the leap I want them yesterday if you know what I mean. Hey I forgot to ask what model and color did you choose? Our family room is Wellington and is burgundy. We were supposed to get the floor model and have it this week but they guilted me a little about busting up the floor set so I said I would wait three weeks if they can get it from the warehouse that quick. The basement model is Chicago and I chose blue in the reclining love seat and sofa. Isn't this exciting! We will have to swap pictures of Tasker, Ty and Harry on the new couches! Harry will gladly oblige, I'm sure. |
Oh ALLRIGHT
Here is the model I picked: http://ep5.eprevue.net/eprevuenet/ItemI ... id=I216277 The site only shows two colors of leather but the leather we picked is a lighter brown color. I really wanted a mahogany (reddish brown) but this model didn't come in that color. But I think the lighter brown will look nice. Did you have the "coating" on the leather? I can't remember what it's called but it provides a 5 year warranty against stains. Tasker, as a general rule is not allowed on the couch, but he doesn't hesitate to climb aboard if he thinks you aren't looking . This couch is a bit lower than my current couch so it will be even easier for him to get on. I suspect that I will get some kind of "throw" for every day use, at least til the newness wears off. My bigest fear is Taskers nails.......... |
Ginny, your link didn't let me see it.
Quote: Error! Our session has expired because the application has been restarted. Please visit our website again to start a new session Yes we took the coating and 5 year warranty too. I made it very clear who would be sitting (jumping) on this couch and they assured me it would withstand Harry! I suggested they use Harry lying on a Flexsteel couch in their next commercial. We bought from local furniture dealer who is in his own commercials! I think Harry would be a good salesman, don't you? Quote: Tasker, as a general rule is not allowed on the couch, but he doesn't hesitate to climb aboard if he thinks you aren't looking Harry say's "Go Tasker!" |
Dang
Well it's model 1127-31 in the Latitudes collection. Has a very nice oversized chair to match, maybe NEXT year!!! |
I got the same error, but when I clicked on the link for a second time, it just worked.
Nice couch! |
One of the things I especially liked about it is that the arms are low, so when you are laying on the couch the arms make a nice pillow for your head. Doug and I are both tall and when we watch TV we both like to lay full out (head to toe). The low arms give enough room so we aren't cramped. Basically we are both slugs |
I like your couches!!
If they are anything like the flexsteel chairs, they will last forever. LeAnne got a pair of the chairs at the thift store (in nubby green fabric from the 70's) that were in perfect condition. They are the most comfortable chairs. She likes the clean minimalist lines, so it goes great with her other furniture. |
Woohoo!! Congrats! |
Oh Ginny, I followed Ron's advice and the second time I clicked the link it came up (thanks Uncle Ronnie).
I love it! Tasker's Mom wrote: Quote: Basically we are both slugs
LOL! From one slug to another - I was thinking the same thing about my basement couches! Here is the links to my couches: Family Room (in burgundy) Don't be fooled by the look it was totally comfortable (and I know because I am a major couch dweller!) http://www.flexsteel.com/home/products/ ... Id=1126-31 Basement (in blue) http://www.flexsteel.com/home/products/ ... Id=3066-62 |
OH WOW!!! I love them both. The basement couch looks so comfy I don't think I'd EVER want to leave.
We considered the recliner couch but decided not to go for it. We figured it would be too hard to give each other foot rubs with the recliner |
ginny your couch looks so comfy!!! Congrats! so jealous. it will totally liven up your living room.
i love sheepiemommy's couches too!!! sigh...... |

I have the most comfy, most elegant, most practical throw! It is so silky soft and it is machine washable. If you are in the market, you might want to consider it. She does custom orders of size and color combinations. I got one at a wine festival in Santa Clarita CA last year. It is the best part of being laid up in bed. I also ordered one as a gift for the friend we stayed with the week we were in LA (since they were so accomodating to Chummie). If you call her and tell her I referred you, you might be able to get a discount. http://www.dontfreakitsfaux.com/faux_furs_throws.html |
They are lovely!!!!! WOW, I'm definately going to consider that.
Careful Val........ some years ago I ruptured a disc in my back, spent several weeks flat on high doses of pain medication. The only thing I had to occupy my time was shopping on the TV and internet. It was AMAZING the things that started showing up at the house that I had purchased in a Vicodin induced haze. The bottles, in addition to the label that says "may be habit forming" should also have a warning that says "may induce frenzied shopping" |
I have the rosette faux throw, my mom made it for me, its so soft and I can just throw it in the wash. Mine is lined with polar fleece.
Ginny and Judi, your new couches are just lovely. The two of you have me thinking of a new one. We have a friend at LazyBoy and I called her to price some of their sectionals. I was aghast when she told me the price I am not sure I will get one. I am pretty frugal when it comes to those kind of things. And right now there is nothing wrong with the furniture we are using, its just a mish-mash of furniture in the room. |
I did the same thing when I had my knee surgery in Oct. I bought a fireplace and a new oak tv stand for the familyroom and surprised DH with a new garage door It was a costly month!
I can't wait to get back to work next week.....I can't afford to shop. I like the idea of a new couch.....you guys are a bad influence Congratulation on the couches, they are beautiful. I would also be worried about the nails. I guess you just have to keep them short! Laurie |
Congratulations on all the new furniture |
Congratulations, Ginny & Judi!!
I'm very happy for you both!! Insanely jealous , but overall, very happy. |
Whooo Hoooo Ginny!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Glad that you FINALLY got the sofa of your dreams!! I hope you, Doug, Tasker and lil Ty...will find many years of comfort on it!! |
