I had never won anything (of any substance) in my life! My daughter and I are scheduled to leave tomorrow morning at 9am Enter Mother Nature. We are having a major blizzard here. My daughter can't get home from college. All flights at O'hare are cancelled, which means, IF flights leave tomorrow....we will probably be bumped. Then...the storm is heading east...which means, we probably won't be able to fly into NY!!! I hate to fly. I hate glitches in plans. I'm feeling really freaked out, as I tend to be supersitious. I'm thinking of just cancelling everything....keeping the $$$ they gave me, and taking my daughter in the spring. I won't get to see Rachael Ray...but I won't be pooping in my pants on the plane either!!! What do y'all think? |

LOL I think you should stay home and keep the money! |

mmm...Deb....I think...I think...uh...what was the question? lol
I think you can't put a price on memories BUT you can't put a price on life either. If it will make you a nervous wreck just to get there and worry the entire time on how you are getting back..then...I think the answer is obvious. I would imagine that the Rachael Ray people would/should do something to make this easier (including rescheduling without you having to worry about it). After all it isn't your fault the weather isn't cooperating. And it seems a very real possibilty that your flight would be cancelled. Does anyone know how that works? If you go to the airport and your flights cancelled won't the offer to give you a voucher for another flight (at a later date) if you want instead of waiting for the weather to clear? Ok, I'm rambling now. I certainly hope you get your "chance of a lifetime"...YOU really deserve it! |
I fly a lot. If it's dangerous, they won't take off. We sat in the airport on Christmas Eve for 12 hours because one windshield wiper motor had blown out. We were flying to AZ, for goodness sake. But, no windshield wipers, no take off.
But, it's not worth being terrified over. Why don't you work with the contest organizers to see if you can reschedule the whole thing later on? They should understand about the weather. |
I'm confused. Did you get money plus all expenses paid? Or is the money to pay for expenses?
One, you may not even be able to get to airport. Two, you don't have confirmed seats? Why would you be bumped? If all flights cancelled, this is moot point anyway. Let's not even think what it will be like getting around NYC in snow. Three, if flights into NYC are cancelled, then other winners won't make it either. Seems to me the production company would reschedule. If not, pooh on them. I no longer fly. I do not squish and especially fold very well anymore, to say nothing of getting more and more motion senstive. |
Oh, Deborah, I'm so very sorry This bilzzard we're having is a really bad one and travelling will really stink if you can even get out of here.
Take the $$$ and run away in the spring when the weather is nicer! |
Ugh...this really sucks! For SheepieBoss.... They have paid for the hotel and plane tickets AND send us money for food and shopping (very generous). I believe I am the only winner for this show. There were 10 winners all together, and we got to chose which show we wanted in January or February. Being as wise as I am, this was the one I chose Yes, I have confirmed seat assignments. However, the prospect of flying through a storm terrifies me. I'm pretty sure they would give travel vouchers if you changed your flights, and they could accomidate the people who had cancelled flights today. I wanted to change the flight to the 6am Thursday flight. But...it gets in at 9:20 and I have to be at the studio at 10:30 and the cordinator was concerned, I would be late. Hey! I'm not on their payroll...dontcha think that is reasonible? I'm sure by Thursday, most of the garbage will be cleaned up! Stacy...the worst part is my daughter is so disappointed. She's had hard few months. I hate to do this to her. I offered to take her in June, but she's not thinking clearly now. Oh boy. |
Call the show and tell them what happened, maybe they can help you out? |
One thing I learned living in Chicago - the weather at O'Hare today doesn't give you any clue about the weather at O'Hare tomorrow. It may be cleared up just fine. The biggest problem seems to be your daughter being stuck at school. Where is she coming from? Flying or driving?
I remember being in my early 20s. with plans to visit my boyfriend in FL. There was a hurricane hitting FL so my parents refused to drive me to the airport. And I was FURIOUS! Of course, they were right and the flight was cancelled but that didn't make my 20 year old self any less indignant |
HAPPY UPDATE!!! I talked to the guy who is putting this trip together. He said, Jet Blue will work us to get us on the right schedule. So.......Instead of leaving at 9:20 am tomorrow (which makes it impossible for my daughter to get home from Champagne, IL) in time...we will be leaving at 7:00 pm. She can catch a train and be home by 2! I also learned, 2 other winners will be there on Thursday, which is really cool, because, to be honest...I was nervous about being there alone. (Just ask Stacy, Paula or Amanda...I've very shy!!!) By tomorrow night, I think O'hare should be back to <fairly> normal. I'm once again...very excited... o/~ o/~ Start spreading the news...I'm leavin' today....New York, New York!!! O/~ O/~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
I'm glad you're still going and hope you have one of those once in a lifetime type of trips. |
Yay Deb, that is wonderful news!!
I was bummed to here you might have to cancel. I'm so glad things worked out! |
Have a great trip! And all the details when you get back |
I hopw someone records the show so we can see how they treat you on air (if you get on air!) !!! |
Woohoo! Deborah's going to NY!
Shy? Who are you trying to kid? |
Welcome back, Ron! Did you have a great time? I'm sure they will let know the date the show will air. When I know, I'll post it here. |
I knew I should've skipped to the end of this thread! I was getting nervous that you might not get to take your trip and you've been looking forward to this for too long to miss it!!
Go to New York!! Have FUN!! |
Have a great time in NY Deb! They shouldn't be getting as much snow as you did in Chicago , but it's going to be cold and icey but you'll still have fun. |
By now your daughter should have made it in and you guys should be happily preparing to go to the airport. Have a great time! |
Well...here's the end of our saga. My daughter made it home from college at 3:00pm. The limo picked us up at 4:00 pm. We got to O'Hare, walked up to the JetBlue counter, and were informed, that our flight was cancelled. Apparently...JFK was shut down do to ice. No Jetblue flights would get us into NY in time for the taping tomorrow. (Contest regulations required us to fly JetBlue.) I called the guy who is organizing this, and he said he was terribly sorry. He said, he will see if he can re-schedule this. My daughter will NOT be able to miss school again until year end, which will be too late. The guy (Jordan) was sick. He asked since she is in town, how would we like to spend a couple nights Downtown (Chicago), and he will see what else he can do for us. He will call in the AM and make arrangements for us. We had worked every angle to make this crazy thing work. Snow storm, ice storm...you just have to think, this just wasn't meant to be. My daughter and I called a limo to take us home. We are very bummed. I hope we can turn these lemons into lemonade. Stef keeps saying, she will never forget the snowstorm of 2007. Guess we did make some memories...just not what we had hoped for. |
That is horrible news
I know it really is dangerous weather in NY - I've been talking to daughter Lisa all day. But still, that BITES!!! |
I am so sorry Deb. I know how much you were looking forward to this trip.
Though sounds like they are still trying for you to at least get some kind of vacation, even if it is in Chicago. But you've still got the money. I am sure you guys will have fun spending.... Maybe a shopping spree? |
Oh Deb, I'm so sorry for all that you had to go through.
Hugs to you and so sad that you and your daughter were dissapointed. Marianne and the boys |
I am so sorry for you, I just saw on the news here tonight the dreadful weather that is hitting there. Anywonder they closed the airports.
Buggar |
Rotten luck, Deb!! I do hope they'll work with you and find a way to make the weekend fun and memorable - even if it isn't in NYC. |
Oh Bummer! |
Hey, at least you found out before they put you on the plane. I wasjust reading about people being stuck on planes for over 9 hours. Some of them were on outbound flights and they wanted to keep them on so in case the weather lifted they were able to leave right away...but some of them were in bound and after they landed the gates were full and these planes had no where to go so the people had to wait on board. THAT would drive me crazy, being at my destination, seeing my gate and being stuck on board for 7 hours... |
Oh my! I would have gone crazy being stuck on the plane! Here's the story: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070215/ap_ ... er_jetblue |
Oh, Deborah, I'm so sorry I know how much the two of you were looking forward to the trip. I don't know what else to say. |

This happened to my Mom a few years back. She was flying back from Hawaii with a layover in Atlanta. She sat on the tarmac in the plane for 9 hours before they finally canceled the flight and got them back to the terminal. She ended up having to spend the night in ATL and fly home the next day. What a fiasco!! I really felt bad for those poor souls trapped on those planes all day yesterday. |
Deb, I am so sorry that your trip was cancelled!! Is there still a chance it will be rescheduled?
But I'm also glad you didn't end up sitting on the runway for 10 hours!!!!!!!! |
Yesterday I got an email from Jordon. My trip has been rescheduled for March 26. 27 and 28th. My daughter can't come then, and most of my friends here work. I just email a cousin I adore. I hope she will be able to travel with me. Keep your fingers crossed!!!!! (My dear husband still refuses to go to NY!!!) |
Oh, just put a hat on Pirate and take him. Call him your cousin It. |

That's a shame. My hubby was like that too. When I finally got him to Manhattan - he loved it! I don't know why so many people have such a negative view of NYC. |
I think a long time ago, Tony had a (goofy) girlfriend from NY. He's sure if he goes there, he'll run into her ! |
