Long story short: I thought he was an Irish Wolfhound (given that he was so lanky and thin...only 54lbs and nearly brown...(given that he had been in the woods for so long! He had to be bathed by a groomer two times to get all the dirt and stuff out of his hair...then they knew he was a real OES!) He was the funniest personality I had ever met in a dog. He even climbed into my car and welcomed himself into the passenger seat! I had someone call animal control and then kept in touch with what was happening with Shaggy D...I was not going to let this Shaggy D (as they were to later call him at the animal control facility) go without a home! I adopted him a few weeks later...when nobody came to claim him and a chip or collar with identity could not be found. The rest, is well: history. Today, we went to the vet for our yearly check up. He is 31 lbs heavier (85 lbs)....very muscular and all the big OES. He still is like a big puppy! So much energy, need for exercise and play...and so much love! We are now engaged in training beyond obedience...and he will make a great agility, herding or SAR dog. In the end, he will decide...he loves the challenge in each regard and could, at this juncture, go whatever way. I will leave this to his pre-disposition and interest. Life is indeed, interesting. Funny, how a chance enounter with a lost or abandoned OES will cause your life (and their's) to change so much for the better. Sometimes, all you need is: a little nudge from a cold nose....and a sparkling look from dark brown eyes...that makes you get out bed...and the doldrums of life...and be what you were made to be. Thanks, MR SHAGGY D ! |

What a wonderful rescue story! It's so true how completely they can change your life for the better. We definitely need more pictures!! |
Yes. we need the "one year later" pictures! |
Hi,
It's been a year already since I read your post of Shaggy and how he chose you and vice versa. I find myself smiling at that story. Wow! Time has flown by quickly and I have no doubt you think the same. Yes, life in a household is never the same again with a sheepie. When you've had rough days and return home to be greeted by an ever smiling comical dog , you just can't help but feel all is good with the world again. It sounds as if you two were meant to be and Shaggy knew it from the moment he met you and sat in the passenger seat. Would love to see photos of him now! Happy 1st anniversary! Marianne and the boys |
Happy, happy anniversary!! I clearly remember Shaggy's story and you coming here for advice and support. I'm SO tickled that it has worked out so well for you, although I'm sure none of us doubted for even a moment that it would!! Sheepies will change your live forever, and you will now never want to be without one.
CONGRATULATIONS!! And may you have many, MANY more years of antics and companionship with your Shaggy!! |
I totally remembered your story from a year ago. I'm so glad things have worked out so well for the two of you!
We need pictures! |
What a wonderful rescue story - congratulations on your 1 year anniversary with this great dog. It has been over 4 years for me and my sheepster which have been some of the best years of my life. I just love her and the joy she brings. She is truly my heart.
Wishing you many years of togetherness. |
