Hi Megan, and welcome to the forum!
http://www.oes.org/html/oes_rescue.shtml is the most up to date list that I know of. It is actively maintained by Grannie.Annie of NEOESR. NEOESR has a member in Palmer, I believe right outside of Anchorage, but I don't know if she is active in Rescue, nor if she has any dogs at the moment. There is a rescue contact listed with a phone number in Alaska on that page. There are also some contacts in British Columbia, Canada as well as Saskatchewan, Canada, though that's pretty far. Ray Salmon in BC is very active, and just drove all the way to New England for this year's NEOESR picnic! You can CERTAINLY look for a rescue anywhere else in the country. Since my wife and I just visited Alaska last summer via motorhome, I am keenly aware of the distance between the lower 48 and Alaska, so perhaps you will be flying a dog in from somewhere anyway. I know there are direct flights from Chicago to Anchorage... In what part of Alaska are you? I just realized that I was assuming that you were looking for a dog, and not looking to give up a dog. Is that right? |
yes I am looking for a dog,I will be moving to anchorage. I have an oes rescue from new england now who will be staying with my family in chicago on account of he is 9 and has arthritis and stomach problems and I don't think it would be a good thing to drag him with me to alaska.
He has a great home in chicago now. the persons e-mail that is listed on that site is not valid, I got it sent back. I also left a message with the phone number given and got no response. thank you for your help though. I just found this forum and I will try to stay active on it, so if anyone hears anything please let me know. And if anyone needs anything in alaska (anchorage area, it is a pretty large state) i.e rescue help, maybe I can find out once I get up there what is going on. I guess I will just have to harass the canadians. hee hee thank you *megan* |
I also suggest that you contact Grannie Annie at grannie.annie@neoesr.org as she knows nearly everyone in the business. Please also tell her about her Alaska listing problem!
Good Luck! PS My dog had arthritis from the age of 8 and lived on medication for 5 more years. Anchorage is pretty warm... |
