Whats the Best Clippers?

Earnie my deaf 6 year old has to go under anesthetic @ the vet to be groomed, but my 1 year old Teddy we have been working @ with shears. What kind of clippers are the best and how do you get a nice puppy cut without coming close to shaving them.
