How old is Kirby? |
Kirby is almost 3 months, he was born on Halloween. After I posted the question, I went and worked with him a bunch more, and he started to show a little improvement. He picked up sit really quick, so I guess maybe I just thought he would pick this up as quick. I just don't want to end up with a 90 lb. anchor at the end of a leash.

I put it on him for awhile to get him used to having it on, and he now doesn't mind it being on and dragging it around, but the second I pick up the leash, he plants his heals in the ground and won't move at all. I've tried everything I can think of, and am not sure what else to do. Any ideas?
Thanks Vince What exactly are you trying to do? I'm not sure I understand what you mean by "getting used to the leash". Do you mean walking nicely without pulling? If that is what you want to do then grab a handful of treats and off you go. Lure him close to you and give him a tiny tidbit as he stays relatively close. If he starts to stray, as soon as there is tension, you need to stop in your tracks and not move...Don't talk, don't move. Wait him out....Eventually he will sit or look at you or come closer to you, so when the leash is relax you treat him and off you go again. If you yourself put any kind of tension into the leash the dog's automatic reasction is to pull back. Same with people, actually. Go up to someone, grab them by the arm and pull them towards you... Good luck. |
