What a Day!

Well, it all started with me getting up before Steve this morning which is unusual. I let the pups out and fed them. I heard my phone ring upstairs, Steve answered and was walking down the stairs to give it to me. He said, "It's your Dad. Beau died last night" and then he slid down the stairs. More of that at the end of this post...

Beau is my Dad and stepmom's 9 year old Dogue De Bordeaux who just had surgery two weeks ago for a torn ligament. She was the oldest of 3 dogs in the household. Apparently, everything has been going well and she just had a positive checkup from the specialty vet. The only thing that had been unusual was that Beau hadn't been eating much since the surgery. They attributed it to the anesthesia and trauma of the surgery. Beau died in my stepmom's lap last night. Unfortunately, my Dad had to carry Beau into the garage and leave her there until the vet opened this morning. An autopsy showed that Beau died of bloat. Of course, Dad feels badly and wonders if there is something they could have done. Dad rarely ever cries. I've only seen and/or heard him cry when my Grandpa died and when his sheepdog, Bentley, passed away.

Beau is survived by Merlot (same breed and has been on heart medication for about 4 years). The vet had given him only about 6 months to live, but he's been pluggng along all these years. The newest addition to the family during the past year is a Pit Bull mix named Chloe. She is such a sweetie pie and just had surgery this week as well for insertion of a partial prosthetic limb. She has one leg that never grew properly for an unknown reason as she was a shelter dog. She's a lucky pup to have found wonderful parents to take care of her.

Oh yea, Steve has a broken toe  That was his way of getting out of visiting with relatives and going to a birthday party for a 2 year old today.

What a day! Lou Malnati's pizza is for dinner.

We crossed our fingers every day that Mr. J would break something to get out of going places w/the military. He's a man. He can handle a little pain. ;)

Thank goodness for food. W/O it, I don't think I'd get through some of the stresses that come with life. :oink:
So sorry... that's so sad...
I am so sorry for your parents I know their pain , bloat is a nasty thing my gsd died a few hours after surgery as the stomache was perforated and the vet was unable to save him
:( Sorry to hear about your Dad and Stepmom's dog.
I'm so sorry about the doggie. Bloat is nasty. Who would have thought to look for that.

And the toe, not much you can do for that but limp and maybe mutter a bit. Hope it heals quickly.
