My daughters foot

My daughter who is 14 went out barefoot before christmas and stepped on something outside. She didn't really compain, until now. She can't walk on her heal, and there is a small round piece of swelling on her heal. It is white, and hard as a rock. There is no sign of glass, but it looks like something is in there. It hurts to touch. Any ideas how to get whatever is in there out? We tried soaking it in hot water...Nothing...

Thanks

Kit

Hi Kim,

Your daughter can continue warm (not hot) soaks to her
heel. She needs to see her pediatrician asap for assessment
and treatment.

Additionally her MD will check her record for her tetanus
shot. If it is outdated, they will update it.

Good luck and please keep us updated.

Hope your daughter feels better soon.
Perhaps you should visit the doctor :(
Are you sure it isn't a planter's wart? I have one of those (I have to get it looked at and taken careof.. ). It felt like I stepped in something and then it got white and weird looking and hard.

Just a thought!

Nic
Yeah, I had plantar warts on the bottom of my feet is mid school, kept me from having to take those showers in PE class. Dr. Schols has a wart removing kit for around $20 or so dollars that you can use on warts.....maybe not plantar though. I remember the doc had to shave my warts every week or so and add more acid until the thing was burned out. Treatment never hurt. The warts were white, hard and hurt when you stepped on them. Google up pictures to see if that's what you are facing.
I had one when I was in summer camp. I dug it out with a buck knife. I caused no blood whatsoever, but it was fairly deep, maybe half a pencil eraser?

I almost got in huge trouble for doing that! They were surrounding me and nearly yelling at me! So I borke down and cried and said (lied) "But it was hurting me!" and they all got very quiet, and I was safe. :D
OOOWWWWWW! 8O 8O 8O

Didn't really hurt, and digging it out was virtually painless, too-- if I recall correctly after 30 years!
You need a shudder emoticon.. :?

Since girls don't normally carry around knives, let along buck knives, we have no concept. Husband reading over shoulder assures me that was a typical boy thing to do.
i had a planters wart...got it in 8th grade, every night before i went to bed, i took a pair of clippers and dug some of it out....i ended up with a hole in the bottom of my foot for a while, but now i couldnt even tell you which foot it was...

Boys must have something with which to cut things! Almost everyone carried one of these in a little holster on the belt at one time or another.

Ohhh the boxes I opened, the paper I shredded to prove its edge!

Nowadays of course it would be much too dangerous to allow anyone to carry such an evil thing. Prior to 9/11, you could even take one on a plane, up to 4 inches blade length.

"You'll poke your eye out with that thing!" Direct quote from my Mom when my Uncle gave me my first knife.
My 10 year old has a fillet knife.....living in Florida and fishing all the time, he needs it.....plus, it adds to the "taking responsibility" factor that so many kids don't have growing up now. I used to watch "Flipper" when I was younger than my son, and all I could think about was how cool it would be to boat around with your own dolphin.
Husband still carries his Buck knife, in his pocket, not a holster. So far he only carries it around when not at work or going to airport.

For years I had to carry around various tools. The magnifying loop didn't cause much of a look, but when I pulled out the pocket knife or in more serious needs, a Bowie, yep, that raised eyebrows. I'm no longer armed, boy do I miss the knife. They are handy and saves wear and tear on finger nails.

Ron is right, today one must be careful with any type knife even if it has a cork screw, scissors, tweezers, nail file, phillips head, and a blade.

Another benefit of carrying around a pocket knife, one learns how to sharpen them which comes in handy with the kitchen knives.
OMG this is soooo funny. My boys had Swiss Army knives first with two attachments at 18 they ones with 8 or 9 attachments It is a boy thing
My son carries a pocket knife and I live in fear that
he will forget to take it out of his pocket and
accidentally go to school with it. He is at that age
where he forgets everything. I guess that stage
never ends though

Shellie
Well, if he does forget, let's hope he has the sense to keep it in his pocket and not go, "Gee, I forgot to leave my knife at home." 8O
