She is tormenting the cat, and when I say no, she says "errrroooowweeeerrrrrr" if that makes any sense, not growling, but her playful puppy talk, being a saucy girl! She seems to think that now that she is naked she can take over the furniture, which I guess is my fault, because I let her up when she was little, but then it stopped and she never really bothers. She doesn't seem to want to lay on the floor with no fur. She has been grabbing newspapers and shredding them, grabbing the remote and taking off with it, she took my husbands watch off his dresser while he was getting ready for work this morning and put it in her water dish, and then ran. If I say Dancer No! She does the talking puppy noise, and starts chewing something, like the table, or a chair, or the coffee table.... WOW! It's like a different dog! Do you think she is upset about her hair cut? Or do you think maybe she can just see better now so is looking for trouble! LOL Or maybe she overheard me talking to the new obedience trainer... |

Did I mention that when you shave them down they are cooler?
Cooler = more cuddly Cooler = more energy when playing Cooler = more playful, and apparently Cooler = more mischievous |
Willow, it sounds like you have an adorable frisky sheepie on your hands. Yes, you described perfectly how Annabelle talks to us and she gets this bouncey walk after she goes swimming with us. Then she will go for a butt tuck run in circles and run really fast by Jack like she would just plow him over. It is hilarious.
I loved hearing about all the crazy stuff your girl is getting into, you made my morning. Thanks. Give that saucy girl a great big hug from me and tell her to leave the newspaper and her daddy's watch alone. Stormi and co. |
LMAO!!hehe!!way too go dancer sounds like she is having fun at your expense!! i hope it was a rolex....hehe!! nothing really new w/ my baby sheepie,im doing the crate training and it is working!! thanks for the advice everyone |
She's just being a young sheepie who needs who needs more stimulation. This is an active breed that doesn't do well sitting on their stub all day. If you don't challenge them physically or mentally, they will entertain themselves. All this personal stuff is her way of inviting play.
More play time, more walks, more free run (if possible), perhaps agility class or games that you think up. A worn out sheepie is less likely to get into trouble.......plus the more you wear them (and yourself) out, the tigher the bond between you. This is a fun breed.....even if they insist on washing the wrist watch. sheepieboss |
I'm not complaining.... just laughing about it. Dancer and I couldn't have a closer bond if she were one of my children, and she definitely knows how to let me know when she is bored!
She is my second oes, my first one Micaela was much more rambunctious than Dancer! They know they are cute, and use every bit of that cuteness to their advantage! LOL Whenever she gets going like this, I usually begin a training session, a few minutes of repeating baisc commands, sit, stay, come, down, and then some playtime with fetching a tennis ball or a teddy bear. She also enjoys fetching the clean laundry and puts it in the dirty pile. LOL I think she thinks she is helping, but a lot of stuff gets re washed around here! LOL (serves me right for not putting it away immediately I guess!) As for mentally challenging, her favorite game is 'get stuff' She knows each of her toys by name, they are dino, bear, chewey, ball, ducky, goose, bunny, and fluff. If I say go get dino, she will specifically get that toy, same with each and every one of them. She will pile them up at my feet, then I hide them all again. People are amazed at her intelligence when they see her do this, then of course she flips her full water bowl over looking for a drink and they wonder. LOL |
You have your hands full there! But you cracked me up.
Lola was about the same today. I went to take her in the car to go to the forest preserve and she was a brat. Wouldn't let me change her leash, barking jumping nipping, and now I have a bunch of scratches on my leg. So I thought I wore her out on the walk. Then we come home and I cool her off with the hose and finally get her to stand in her little pool. We play some more and then she goes wild again. Running in circles, jumping all fours at once in the pool. Trying to jump on me (all wet). Little devil. But I guess Ron is right Cooler = more mischievious. Though she sounds like a real smarty. I think Lola knows her toy names, but I'll have to test her more. Have fun! Thanks for the chuckles. |
That sounds really cute! Mopsey is being a bratt too! I am hoping its the puppy stage! She is 11 weeks this week, and is very mischivious! She does things only if she feels like it. And the nipping, OH BOY! We are working on it! Love your Dancer stories, Willow! |
Yes, sounds like Dancer is just fine. Her brain is fully engaged and she is enjoying life. May this continue for years. How wonderful you get so many laughs with her. Now send her here, we could do housework together,

All I've got to say is I wish Ben would have the excuse of being a puppy or being newly shaved....neither applies to him but he's been naughty the last two days! Shredding, stealing my kids pool balls, etc. Then this morning was the worst. I was waiting for him to go potty (oh no, the grass had dew on it so it took forever) and he was pacing around the yard while I'm begging him to do his thing. My husband's pillow fell off of his hammock last night and I hadn't picked it up yet. (Okay, so I didn't want to get dew on my feet either ) Sure enough Ben starts pacing around this pillow and lifts his leg on it! Nasty! I could not believe it.....granted it was outside but I wouldn't have even thought he would go on a pillow. Rock, bush, mailbox - yes....but a pillow? Ugg.
Is there a full moon? |
Willowsprite,
I have found that a nekkid sheepie is a more rambunctious, playful, punky sheepie! Presley and Sydney both make that same exact noise (I could hear it from your post! lol). It's hysterical! Good thing you're not working this summer! You're going to have your hands full! Kristen |
Ok, this is odd, is it a full moon or something.... is everyone's dog being a brat the last couple of days?!
LOL This morning Dancer is spending some time in her crate for housetraining purposes (she wouldn't go on the grass this morning because of the dew) and because she is being a holy terror! She actually tried to pull my shorts off while I was sitting having my tea this morning! I realized with Britpressyd's post in another thread, that I have been handling her behavior all wrong. I need to ignore it first, then play with her and train her when she is quiet, I've been giving her exactly what she wants, attention. Today is the first time she has been barking while in her crate, but I think it's because the cat is getting revenge. Dancer has been nipping at him and chasing him constantly the last couple days, so now while she is in her crate Winston is teasing her, he is actually walking back and forth in front of her crate giving the occasional meow, and it drives her nuts. Then Winston decided to lay on top of her crate and let his tail dip down into it, then whip it back up when Dancer tries to bite it! Talk about sibling rivalry! I'm going to take Dancer for a good run today before it rains again, we've been having so much rain and flooding that we've been pretty much housebound, today the sun is out, breifly, because they are calling for more storms tonight, so I am going to take advantage of it. |
I just killed myself laughing when you mentioned Dancer knows her toys by name , yet, flips her water bowl over!!! Nyuck Nyuck .
As for her behavior, it could be revenge of the Sheepie for her haircut or that's she getting into her "teen years" and some of us know what that's like. |

The weather may be playing a role in her behavior - like a child who has been couped up for too long! She's testing you - and doing a good job of it! I noticed Sydney gets unruly when she's been in the house for too long! There wasn't a Full Moon - but Saturday there was a New Moon - so maybe that plays a part as well! Kristen |
Well, our exercise didn't help. She is like a different dog. She is barking and growling, trying to pull off curtains and biting the couch, coffee table, kitchen table, chairs, people, cats. She was doing better with housetraining but I made her spend time in her crate today and she kept peeing in it, and getting covered in it, pooped in the front hall, pulled all the blankets off my bed and dragged them through the house, ate the mail, she has been awful! I am just keeping her on her leash with me right now. She is fidgiting and whining, but at least out of trouble and I know she won't pee if I can see her.
Must be the teenage rebellious stage? It's been so long I don't remember when that is supposed to start. Also, her nether regions look a little swollen.... she shouldn't be coming into heat already should she? She is only 7 months old... but that would explain a lot of the behaviour. |
Hi Willow,
I just wanted to let you know that Annabelle came into heat 5 days shy of her 8 month birthday. It was March 15 and she was 8 mo old on the 20th. I am sorry that she is testing you so much. Annabelle played a lot rougher with Jack when she was first in heat. She cleaned herself more and seemed to sleep more while she was in heat. Jack went through a rebellious stage and the best way to disipline was to put him in time out where he couldn't see us. I would set a timer for 10 minutes and then get him back out for mental work. I am sure she could just be getting use to her new hairdoo and showing off a little. Good luck, stormi |
I get the same thing with Liz whenever she gets a haircut. MUCH more playful and energetic! And as for chasing the cats, well, she didn't even KNOW we had cats until she got her first haircut! Once she could see them , it was all over for them! Poor things, they thought they were safe in the yard! Enjoy your puppy while you can! |

I bet this is what you're dealing with! Oh joy! You've got a hormonal adolescent girl on your hands! I wish you luck! Kristen |
I think maybe she is coming into heat, but there's no discharge yet, she is still being a total brat one minute, and a huge suck the next, very clingy. She is cleaning down there more too. I talked to the breeder and she said Dancer's mom was only 8 months when she came into her first heat too. So, while 7 months is exceptionally young for a large breed puppy, it is not unheard of. At least if this is what's causing the differences in her behaviour I know it's only temporary! *sigh*
My first oes was 9 or 10 months I think, I don't remember, but I had her spayed after anyway. |
Well, it looks like a lot of the youth is going into "heat" early these days. I work in an elementary school and have girls who get their periods at 9 years old. Go figure. Must be the hormones in the chicken we eat. He he he |
