House Training Tip

Hi everyone,
I've been house training my new 8 week old puppy. I am not doing the paper training routine. Just the direct method, crate, confined area and outside!

What has helped me tremendously is to keep a daily log of the times I take him out, what he did ( peep or poop) and how many times. If he has an accident, I mark the time down as well.

What I found was most times he had an accident, it was because I didn't walk him long enough. Another three or four minutes he would ahev gone outside! Also, he is fed on a regular time schedule as well and with the log, I was able to see how much time he needed after he ate to go. Most books tell you take out immediately after eating to eliminate. well, for some reason, my pup doesn't go immediately after eating!

Anyway, the log has helped me and I jyust pass it on to maybe help someone else. :)

Great idea! :)

At this age you are really just training yourself to know the dog's routine, however it is important to do that because the more accidents you can prevent means more chances for positive reinforcement :)
It really is amazing how fast they catch on if you have the time to devote to bringing them out. The log is a good idea.
