I had an interview earlier this week at another company and have been called back for second interviews next week. This position would be just a step under a Project Mgr. The company was recently acquired by a larger pharma company. It would be in a smaller office, but would need to abide by the same corporate rules now. The second opportunity came up out of nowhere. I had contacted an Assoc Director from my old company who was looking internally for me to be able to work decentralized aka from home. Nothing came up but she has a very good friend that works for a pharma resourcing company. The woman called yesterday and we spoke for a very long time. She said that Deb has sung such high praise about me. I would be an INDEPENDENT CONTRACTOR (work for myself) and work from home! There is a lot for me to consider in working for myself, but I do have some very good resources in friends and family (Dad). It would be a risk as the contract would be about a year and then I'd have to continue to locate more contracts. However, it might be what I need. I suppose I could always go back to corporate if it didn't work out. I have an entrepreneurial type attitude and would LOVE to work from home! Well, now I have to discuss my goals for the new year with my current boss. Oh boy |

Oh Stacy! That's wonderful news ! Sounds like some pretty yummy offers are on the table!! Take your time making the right decision. I know you will!!!! Congrats! |
Maybe Foz chewing your interview shoes brought luck! |
I worked out of my home for about 3 years. I liked working in my jim-jams but one reallyreallyreally has to be motivated and disciplined. That's why I no longer work at home.
Take your time. List the pros and cons of each job. Talk to Steve, Annie and Foz. Tell your current boss your goals are to find another job. |

Haha! Now I need to get another pair and a suite for the next interview. I find being in an office environment totally demotivating and demoralizing. Steve, Annie, Foz and my Dad vote for the at home job. I can barely look my manager in the face. I just don't care! |
Good luck choosing! I wish I could find an at-home job. It'd be the best of both worlds - I'd be able to help my hubby with the income while staying home with our kids. |
I know some of you out there are independent consultants, have their own business, or accountants. Any things you can tell me I should do? I would need to set up a home office. Do I need insurance or is covered under my household policy? Lots to think about again... |

Isn't that expression for bad news? |
I think the biggest temptation would be to spend more time with the dogs and the forum and put off work. |

That's what I do here already! |
I have another interview with another company on Monday. I've gotten in over my head! Oh, what to do with my life! It must seem like I'm bragging, but you know how MISERABLE I've been all year long. This is quite the ego boost to have 3 places interested in me since my confidence level was no larger than a gnat just a few days ago.
So you guys know me, I should work at home, right? Maybe I should quit my current job just so I can see how many interviews I can rack up |
Sounds great Stacy! I worked from home for quite a few years, it was nice not having to deal with office drama. I really enjoyed it. |
I don't know how I would feel about working from home. I dream about it...working in my PJs, no commute...all that stuff. But I would be afraid that it would get boring after a little while and not having anyone else to talk to or interact with during the day (I'm sure Foz and Annie are GREAT conversationalists, but...)
But then, I know all the drama you've had recently at work. I guess it wouldn't hurt to try working from home...if you hate it, you can always go back to a traditional office environment. Good luck either way! |
Joan and I are together 24/7 except when she's walking the dog.
Mulligan gets lots of walks. |

I was a contractor for 3 years, but worked for different companies in THEIR offices. Does that count? As for the insurance, check with your broker. Some companies have policies that include a certain amount of "business" and the incidentals along with it, and some exclude everything but can offer the coverage for a small amount. Home office...how exciting! I assume you can write off the business expenses of new computer, printer, digital camera (you do need one, right?)..... |

This company also does that but she thinks I'd be able to make more money on my own I will be talking to her this Tuesday so I'll ask more questions. If you shoud decide on going the home office route, i don't know your background, but you should have someone else do your taxes. They are able to find the smallest things to write off, such as electricity to your home offce and a brand new computer!!!
Having a shcedule of how you want your day to look. It gets really easy to sleep in or do other things!!! If you can stay focused and motivated it is really an awesome experience, it doesn't hurt to try it once Shannon |
Thanks for the advice. I'm glad that my Dad is so well connected. He's always worked for himself so he can put me in touch with some great resources. |
