Awful.
It is awful!!

Even the loop the groomers use could be dangerous. The groomer where Beau & Gen have been going does not like for the owners to be there while their dogs are on the table, for that very reason. They say the dogs get excited when they see their Mom or Dad and start jumping around on the table.

It did happen that I had to walk past Beau while he was being dried and he fell off the table trying to get to me. I was close and there lifting him onto the table before I took another breath. But for that second or two, he was hanging there with that groomers loop around his neck!! I know it was an accident and caused by my presence, but I was still very UPSET.

I almost didn't take him back there, but I thought I'd give them the benefit of the doubt and then this time he had diarrhea while there, which I firmly believe was because he was stressed and they didn't take him out to potty all day. So, I'm seriously looking at other options. I think I will interview some of the mobile groomers in the area. I like the idea of them being at home and me being there to supervise.
One of the main reasons I bought my own set of clippers was because I found out that my groomer, who had done both Tasker and my cocker before him, was drugging dogs.

I never understood why she kept my dogs ALL DAY for a bath and a trim, then she was charges with animal cruelty after a dog in her care died.

I do take Ty to Petsmart, my hope is that being a major they would HOPEFULLY have policies in place that will better protect the animal.
I have clippers, I just know I can't make them look as pretty as a professional. I guess I could get some training and learn to do it myself. :?
What a horrible story. She is so lucky her dog survived.
Oh my gosh. Our groomer doesn't even use tables anymore. They redid their whole shop with little booths. They don't have the ability to walk 360 around the dogs anymore but the only way that they restrain them is by collar and leash and only when they have to walk away. Otherwise, their own bodies block the dog from moving out of their reach.
OM 8O The first time I took one of my male Pyrs to a groomer I was told he jumped from the table and overturned the table. I now realize how close he was to hanging himself. If it wasn't for his size and strength he could have hung himself or seriously injured his neck.
That's horrible. :(
I rarely use the grooming noose, and only if I am right there with the dog... but hearing stories like that makes me never want to use it again...
I wonder if I could outfit my grooming table with one of those break-away collars?
:o :o :o 8O 8O that is horrible!! At least now I know what to look for in the groomers!!! OMG!!!
