Not happy today . In September I contracted with a handywoman to repair our skylights. She stated she was an expert in roof repair. She initially put sealer around the skylights, that did not work. She was to return to repair them by taking off the shingles around them and sealing. Then placing new shingles. She did not show up before Christmas and blew off the appointment we had set. I have called numerous times to her cell phone and home phone asking her to call as prior to this week we had good weather. Today my calls are still not returned. As I am bailing out the sunroom , my mantra is never pay a repairperson in full (Of course the checks were cashed and cleared immediately) I hope the Guru offers a course for consumers in Keeping your cool with repair people |

Oh Zahra!! I'm so sorry you had to learn this lesson the hard way.
But you're right, never ever pay for the repairs until they are completed to your satisfaction!! Have you called the BBB? |
yup,i know all about those types myself....through working with subs all the time....the best thing i could ever tell anyone is to NEVER pay in full till the job is completed to your satisfaction...
im sorry youre going thru this...contact the bbb...if they care about their reputation, usually this does the trick! |
From my perspective you have two options:
Better Business Bureau Small Claims Court Many years ago I hired a Carpenter to build me a shed. On the LAST day of construction, he had everything done but the trim on the door. I was going away for the afternoon and wanted to leave so I paid him for the job. He must of beat feet out of there the moment my car turned the corner because I arrived home and found the job exactly as it was when I left I learned then, NEVER PAY till the job is DONE SATISFACTORILY!! |
HAHA! I was just talking about contractors in the chat room the other night! There goes my expectations that a woman might make a better contractor |

Unscrupulous comes in all forms! Zahra, so sorry you're going through this. I'd contact the BBB pronto, then file a claim in small claims court, as Ginny said. Let us know how you make out. |
I learned this lesson about 15 or 20 years ago.
I was helping on a job in a tough neighborhood and there was another helper hired locally. They hired this guy, who proved to me that a person really can eat an apple with no teeth, a feat of which he was proud, on Tuesday or Wednesday. On Friday one of the partners said: "Time to pay the help" The other said: "Absolutely not." The second partner continued: "This is more money than he has seen in a long time. If we pay him now we'll never see him again." The first partner said: "We'll only pay him for the work he has done. We still have another couple of days of work for him, it is very good money, he'll be back." Guess who had to do the other guy's work? |
I'm not surprised but sorry that happened to you. |
Hey! My plumber showed up last night with way too many books. Hopefully, we are on our way to the start of our bathroom remodel project. I'm really not looking forward to it, but will be happy when it's over. I guess it's like anything else that's better the more you do it. We've never had a major remodel project before and it's quite overwhelming to us. |
The plumber showed up with books????
Don't they have training requirements in your state??? |
