Hey folks

Meet our newest pup Wilbur got him at 10 wks, now he's 14 wks old. First time owning a sheepdog, Wilbur keeps us on our toes for sure.....lots of great info on these boards, trying to digest it all. Right now looking for a remedy for his constant nipping! He's a biter for sure....

Welcome to the forum... What a cutie pie!

They are all nippers! Search for nipping and/or biting for perhaps some suggestions. Substitution and/or yelping seems to be the most popular advice!

I am looking forward to watching Wilbur grow up!
What a sweetie! We called Oscar "pirahna pup" and "gator boy" when he was little, as those teeth were lethal! You'll be happy to know that they outgrow it! The best thing to do is keep acceptable chewing toys handy, and when he bites a human, yelp, and then give him the toy to nibble on.

Enjoy your little boy!

What a handsome guy!! I love the eye patch

Just be sure to give him LOTS of chew toys!!
Welcome to the forum! :)

He's a cutie, love his eye patch :)
Welcome! You'll learn REALLY fast which toys he prefers to hands, and then you'll keep them all around you and STUFF the minute you look interesting to him!
Thanks for the advice....He's got plenty of toys just doesn't like any of them! Too bad they don't make toys that look like shoes, belts, shirtsleeves, remote controls, table corners, rocks (yes rocks), pants.........

He's going into puppy kindergarten in a couple of weeks, I'll keep you posted.
Adorable, looks so sweet and innocent  Love his Eye Patch a real cutie, herding dogs so yes nipping to be got on top of before he gets HUGE

Welcome and greetings from the otherside of the world. :D
Welcome from Norway :D

I just love his look in the first pickture :D
Duchess says - Hi Wilbur, I'm just a week older than you and I like to nip too and so far they haven't found anything I like better than hands and ankles :excited:
Duchess and Wilbur are actually both 14 weeks, any chance they are siblings?

I know Dutch was born 4 days before Tucker...
Welcome to the forum! He sure is a cutie patootie!! Love that eye patch. :D
We brought Wilbur to Ottawa from a little town called Blenheim Ontario not too far from Chatham. There is a very knowledgeable breeder there who's been in the business just under 20 years. He was the fourth pick from a litter of 9, and we actually had to drive down to meet and pick him out at 8 weeks then go back at 10 weeks to bring him home.
He is such a cutie  I have an 11 wk old who is doing the nipping also, just as my other 2 did at that age. I tell him a firm no, then give him a chew toy to munch on, it did not take the other 2 to catch on, so hopefully Elliott will follow suit.
What a little doll! I love that eye patch!!
Welcome to the forum from the uk i just love the eye patch :D
boy oh boy what a cutie pie!! :hearts:
Wow! Wilbur you are cute!

Rest assured Mom, the alligator stage does end, but not before you have some personal and household reminders. Keep those chew toys handy, he will have a mouth full of sore teeth and gums for a few more months...when he chews, get the more appropriate item in his mouth.

Not to worry Stacey you and I just count different

Welcome to the forum from Massachusetts !
Welcome! Wilbur is adorable! :hearts:
Welcome!
Your puppy is so cute. Wilbur -what a fun name.
Very adorable. He has a perfectly round "Petey" eye patch.
Thanks for the welcome everybody, and the compliments. The same goes for your dogs of course!

I find myself spending more and more time on these boards because of the wealth of information. Everytime a new issue arises I scramble to the boards and find something to new to try. The experience of everyone on here is invaluable....

Wilbur goes for his 3rd round of shots tomorrow. My beloved beagle died at 9 yrs old because of too many vaccinations. Ever since then I am wary of giving my pup uneccessary shots. Printed out the new vaccine protocol thread and will have it in my hand when we go see the vet. We already had the "no thanks we don't want him to get the Lepto shot" discussion last time we were in. It's something I believe strongly in, don't feel the human body needs to be pumped full of drugs for bacterias/diseases/sicknesses we can fight naturally. Same idea should be applied to pets. Of course I don't to put him in any uneccessary harm, and would feel really guilty if he caught something that could have been avoided...it's a fine line we have to walk.

I mean look at this face, would hate to have him get sick on me!

(alright, I'm done with the boasting. Everybody's puppy is equally the cutest in the world :P )
Oh my! What an adorable pup!!! Now I have "puppy" longings!!! :excited:

Welcome to the forum. These pups nip, that's for sure. I think (trying to remember) we just kept saying NO, and substituing chewy things when they would nip.

Good luck!
Yourpuppy is adorable! Sometimes I wish they could just stay that size! :D
Great picture... plus I've rotated all of your pics. :D
Hi ,

Welcome to the forum!

Yup all pups like to nip but perhaps Sheepies do a little more than other pups due to the herding tendencies. The advice you recieved regarding yelp then immediately replacing unwanted behavior with something acceptable is the way to go. Sometimes it's not enough to show them what you don't want but also replace it with something you want. Then lots of praise..good boy!

I know in his little pup world so many interesting things exist that toys may not interest him too much at this time but he'll eventually get used to them. The best advise I can give is whatever work you put in now will pay you back in years to come. Lots of luck and can't wait to hear of his upcoming adventures.
