In December of 2005 the decision was made to change the name from Shichon to the Chacy Ranior. There was mass confusion over the name Shichon and the Shih-Tzu / Bichon Cross. |

This appears to be the brainchild of one individual... they even named the "breed" after themselves.
Cute, but it looks like someone cashing in on an accidental breeding, IMO. |
Actually, it looks quite a lot like a Tibetan Terrier. |
On this page of pics, some clearly (at least to me) look like a maltese, havanese, and one of them on this page looks like a tibetan (black and white one/third pic) to me.

odd mix, but cute little dogs |
They don't look like mini sheepies.
Maybe if they looked like this!!!! (i love this pic) http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/cotondetulear.htm |
They are adorable.
Being a Mom of special needs child I think the breed is a great idea. That is, if they are as good as they say. As for the name, made a Sheepdog is not the best name for the breed. |
What is so special about this dog? Looks like several small breeds. Looks like a backyard breeder with an over developed ego. I'd rather have a Bull Terrier x Shih Tzu -- you figure out what is would be called. |

OOO...SheepieBoss...that was GREAT! lol
Those coton de tulears are CRAZY dogs....there were two living in the same complex as us before we moved to our house. Every time they were walked they'd pull like crazy and bark bark bark. Of course, that could be the owner's fault...lol...but it didn't exactly endear me to them. I must be getting old and snotty...because every time someone talks about mixes I get a little hot under the collar. Another discussion....another time...lol. Strange what people will do for a $$$. |

....... ..........Ha Ha Ha Good one |
Sort of cute, maybe I'm just not into dogs with tails anymore, Just love them wigglebutts |
What I just read is a prime example of opinions offered without researching a topic..
The breeder of this dog has done this to help kids with all kinds of issues from cancer to autism..As far as what people will do for a dollar she is donating one of these dogs to our family since our medical bills for our son prevent us from paying for one. Who cares how and why she named these dogs what she did... She sure sounds like a real dishonest uncaring money hungry person huh. |
I hope your dog never gets sick then... who'll pay for the vet bills? And for the food?
We've calculated the cost of owning a Sheepdog at a minimum $1,500 a year... An annual checkup at the vet is around $200, medicines (heartworm preventative alone is expensive around $100 a year) and leashes and doggie poo bags and toys and grooming and/or grooming tools and tick collars and... all that is if the dogs doesn't have an accident, and doesn't get into the trash and eat something... (I spent $1,500 after my dog ate a candy wrapper last year) I'm sorry for your child's condition, but maybe you should think twice before accepting the gift? |
I believe you are right..I have reconsidered if all dog owners are this arrogant & opinionated when they don't know a person's/family's situation I don't what to be associated with them..See I know about the possible health costs and I know...well you'll just have to wander what was next since you are all knowing you should know the rest..Thanks for proving my point. |
I will just have to "wander" about that response for a while. Are we being arrogant in bringing a point of health care cost to ones attention? |
Yes, I'm opionated because I've seen what happens to dogs when people get them and then realize they don't have the time or money to care for them.
Sheepdogs and other long haired dogs are a high maintenance dog. They require extensive grooming both of the hair and their rear end.....dingleberries. Sheepdogs are herding dogs, not lap dogs. These guys need training or they are out of control by 18 months. I've received calls to "come get the dog now because we are leaving on vacation and no, we don't want it back." The poor animal has never been groomed, and smells like a pig stye, lived without human companionship. At least the owners were cared a little bit to get the dog to rescue or a shelter......many just dump them on the side of the road. I've seen people who love the idea of owning some new designer dog until they realize it is still just a dog who barks, bites, poops and chews and then the bloom is off the rose. And I've seen people who have done extensive research on dog breeds, training, maintenance before they decide on a breed. And I've seen people pick out the most dirty dog in the shelter, take it home and do whatever it takes to train the dog, overcome health issues and give the dog a loving home. I hope you are in the later category. Perhaps I've seen more of this type, but it's the ones who harm the animals that I remember. |
I'm glad we could help clarify your thinking.
The term "White Elephant" has an interesting history. A gift given to someone who can't afford to keep it but cannot refuse it and can't give it away. Please don't let a sheepdog become your white (and black) elephant. |
Just came across this site. We adopted a "little mess" of a dog from the humane society up here in Alberta Canada, and finally figured out the other day what he actually is! He is this amazing "mixed breed" called the Minature Littlefield Sheepdog. Funny, because once we put 5lbs on his bones, and I do mean bones, and his coat grew out he is exactly this" breed". Ironically, I have twin special needs kids, and was not looking to bring home "another" humane society animal. He looked so frail and was so ill, others would not take him because of the anticipated "vet bills"! To date, he has cost us nothing but food, and love, poop bags, and so on, but we will certainly find a means to afford vet care should he require it. I have not had one single day pass since we brought him home, that he hasn't made it a better day for me and our kids. We are not rich, especially with 2 special needs kids, but we when we need to, we always find the means to accommodate expenses that animals in our home accumulate. We could not have "bought" a special dog like this for the price that they are, he came to us at a "reduced rate" so to speak. He was a "gift" to our lives. So....to the person that was so "arrogant and judgmental" to the person who was given one as a gift.............."shame on you and your big mouth"! oh by the way did I "spell" everything correctly, or did I make any "typo mistakes" arrogant one? Perhaps you could find a way to help, instead of hinder people? Perhaps you could send a message of encouragement instead??? Something to think about hmmm? |
Why is everyone so defensive about this? This thread was just started by someone saying that they didn't like the name of the dog. Seems pretty darn fair to me since it is actually NOT a sheepdog. It's a bunch of breeds mixed together, none of them sheepdog. I don't think there are even enough generations of these breedings to actually have serious standards yet. There wouldn't be enough stability. There's no shame in adopting a needy animal to add to your family but there is shame in selling unproven "breeds" for big bucks without regard to future health problems or issues to people who don't understand the risks. I am amazed at how someone can turn a simple discussion about the name of a dog breed into an attack on them or the animal. As someone who has adopted dogs that people can no longer afford or take care of it is concerning that with all the vet bills even for a healthy animal how will they cover the expenses. We have all seen the numerous turn ins to rescue because of the economy so I think that it is right to be concerned about the future of any dog given to someone. What about spay fees, regular vaccinations and god forbid what if the dog does have something happen....we have all heard about dogs eating things they shouldn't or the fall down a step. These are real expenses that any own should consider when looking into a family pet regardless if he was a "gift" , a rescue or from a breeder. It is is the pets best interest to have fully thought of all the unexpected things in life. They do occasionally happen. |
