American Airlines SUCKS. |
|
Oh no... I'm sorry! I always worry about our stuff when we travel too. |
what's a ben sherman bag? i'm sure it's something totally stylish and therefore I don't have a clue. |
Ben Sherman is a UK designer, a lot of British Mods wore his stuff and they make really cute clothes. My boyfriend got it for me for Christmas and he looked so bummed when he picked it up and saw it was ripped, I felt like such a jerk for checking it (I wanted to bring my lotion!)
The thing that makes me the most mad is that while we were waiting there for my bag we had to stop at least 5 baggage jams, and bags and "fragile" packages were falling off the conveyer belt like crazy. There was no one around, and the baggage services line was about an hour long. I went home without filing a claim and the number I got today has had no answer each of the 6 times I called it. I guess I'll be picking up some crappy luggage soon |
I'm sory!!!
My daughters bag got lost when she went back to Utah, I haven't heard if she got it back or not yet. |
Did y'all hear about the "lost" luggage found behind a pet store in Houston?
They have already arrested some baggage handlers. Lots of bags too. Several years ago, my husband went to a National tournament with my boys. I sent him with my point-and-shoot camera. On the way back, he put it in the bag because he wasn't going to need it again. The bag was cut open, no camera and the airline was not very caring or apologetic. I was furious with my husband - we lost irreplaceable pictures of the boys and it was stupid on his part to put it in the bag. It was a wonderful camera too. I did have to laugh though. I figure the thief was mad that it was a 35mm camera and not a digital. |
Oh No! How awful for you and I'm sorry that happened to you.
I would write the airline a letter with pic included and mention you just got it for a gift from bf (play on their sympathy). I think they may send a voucher as` perhaps as a way of apology. Good luck and let us know what happens. Marianne and the boys |
A news report said there were at least 155 bags stolen in Houston The airline has yet to issue an apology |
Oooh, I LOVE Ben Sherman. I got the cutest short sleeve sweatshirt earlier this year. I'd be bummed too! |
What rotten luck, Heather!! I'm sorry this happened to you. It does seem like a lot of work to file the claim, when the airlines don't seem to care anyway.
Is there any way to repair the luggage? Steph - love your new avatar! |
Hi Heather,
Sorry to hear about your bag. As an airline manager, here is my advice to you. First of all you are supposed to report a damaged bag with 24 hours of the flight if domestic and 7 days if international. That said, when you make your complaint IN WRITING, explain that the baggage service line was out the door. With the weather in Denver and it being the holidays that will be understood. Now go to a luggage repair shop and either get an estimate to repair the bag or a statement that the bag is not repairable. Also, get them to note the condition of the bag, i.e. new, slightly used, heavily used, etc. Most luggage repair shops will do this free of charge. If not get a receipt for the charge and enclose it when youmake your claim. If possible try to find a store that is an American Airlines authorized repair shop. Make sure the estimate/statement is on letterhead with their full address and telephone number. Next ask your boyfriend for the purchase receipt for the bag (or c.c statement showing the purchase). I know this is tacky, but it will help your case immensely. This will show the bag was new and what the value is. Now sit down and write your letter. Include the date and flight number the bag was damaged and better yet if you still have your boarding pass, enclose a copy. Be specific in your request. If the bag is repairable, ask AA to authorize the repair as per the enclosed estimate (send the AA the original and keep a copy for yourself). If it is not repairable, again enclose the original statement from the luggage shop and ask them to reimburse you for the cost of a new bag as per the attached receipt or c.c. statement (send copies of these and make sure your c.c. number is blacked out). Be polite and explicit about what you want. Finally send this to American Airlines Customer Relations, P.O. Box 619612 MD 2400, DFW Airport, TX 75261-9612, certified mail, return receipt requested. Make sure you keep a copy of the letter you send. Good luck and my experience is that you will receive a satifactory resolution to your baggage complaint. Kathie |
Thank you Kathie.
Even though your suggestions were for another, I will remember your recommendations. Cheers, |
Thank you so much Kathie! |
This makes me slightly nervous, as i just found out that we will be flying in and out of DFW to Denver and the same for departing with AA for our honeymoon in a couple of weeks!!! We have never traveld just by ourselves before, so i guess we need toi really decide if we need extra things!!!

Great advice Kathie!
I swear if you have a problem even if it isn't related to sheepies - someone on this board has been there or has great advice. Ya'll (you guys for those folks up north) are awesome. |

Shannon Don't be nervous. For all the bazillions of people who fly every day, it is a relatively small number who end up with some sort of luggage problem...Plus, it is a pain to only carry on these days, when you are only allowed 3 ounces of liquid or gel...and they WILL toss your stuff, even if you take a 6 ounce bottle that is CLEARLY nearly empty and could only contain maybe an ounce... |
