Are animals required to be quarantined for a specific amount of time if you move there? What do people in the show community do with their dogs? Is it true that the UK has stricter laws about animals/pets than other European countries? If so, is it possible to bring in animal in via, say Spain or Italy, and then drive them into the UK? Outside of travel, how difficult is it to find accomidations/rental properties with a 90 lbs ball of fur? |

Hello
You can try to find something on this link: http://www.thekennelclub.org.uk/ Uk is not a easy country to come join with pet, but you can do it. Lene |
Great! Thanks! This is the direct link to the information most relevant to travel:
http://www.defra.gov.uk/animalh/quarantine/index.htm Seems the 6 month blood work will be the issue for us as I do not know how much advance warning we will get. Do you think my state side vet will know all the paper work for a pet passport? |
Hi El Gato,
Good luck with your move to the UK! I found this site with some good information on Pet passports. www.weyfarm.co.uk http://www.weyfarm.co.uk/pdf/PETS.pdf Don't know how many US vets would be familiar with the pet passport paperwork. You could talk to your local dog club, perhaps a breeder who travels internationally would have some suggestions for you. |
El Gato,
Any update? Are you moving across the "Pond" ????????????????? |
Thanks for asking.
I am still in discussion with my company. They have a real goal of attacking the European market but I am not sure they have a true plan in place. If I know they have a plan that they are willing to stick with for a while I would be pushing a little bit more. For now, just in a holding pattern. Though I need to schedule a vet appointment in the next couple of weeks, I may just address the pet passport and bloodwork bridge then in case things start moving again. Would be tough to leave the guy for a couple months because his 6 month bloodwork hasn't been completed. |
Thanks for the update-best wishes with the international
moving plan. I am sure things will sort out for the best. Good idea to have the vet involved, in case your company assigns you to the UK. Looking forward to pictures of your sheepie dashing through the British countryside. What a wonderful experience it would be for you and your family(and sheepie). Good luck and keep us updated. |
Hi El Gato
just saw this, how on earth did I miss it ? So, are you over here now ? If so there is a sheepie meet on the 4th June. If not, you can bring your dog in from Europe, but like it says in the previous posts, you do need a pet passport, which is great, as the dog doesn't have to go into quarantine. You can take your dog all over Europe if you plan on travelling. let me know if you need further help. |
