Hot Dogs & Stripping Combs

Hi, I have an oes and he's really hot all the time. Is a stripping comb the answer to this? Is the "Furminator" the same as a stripping comb? I went to the local pet store and looked/asked for a stripping comb and the salesperson didn't know what to show me except for that. It was $60! The in-store groomer told me that regular use of a slicker brush and a regular comb should be sufficient. Does anyone have any advice for an oes owner who cannot find the Mars Coat King Stripper. (I really don't like shopping online)

oooooooooooh, a HOT dog. I know that's what you wrote, but I couldn't figure out from the title how hotdogs and stripping combs went together.
I guess making sense trumps wit when writing a thread title. If nothing else, maybe people will read it thinking it's a new kebab recipe and some of them might happen to know the answer?

I thought it was pretty funny!!!!

I have nothing helpful to offer except maybe a haircut?
I'm not sure if you dislike shopping on the net (as in looking for things) or if you dislike buying on the net.

In case it's the former, here is where you can get the Mars products safely and securly, through Amazon.com

Mars Coat King Stripper 6 Blade Coarse
Mars Coat King Stripper 10 Blade Medium
Mars Coat King Stripper 12 Blade Fine
Mars Coat King Stripper 16 Blade X-Fine
Mars Coat King Stripper 20 Blade X-Fine

Just in case you want to take a lass manual approach:

Two Speed Golden A5 Clipper, Through Amazon.com from KVVet Supply
I , too, was looking for the "hot dog" question...lol

If you strip out the undercoat it will make a big difference in the amount of coat the dog will have,. It really helped with our Bosley..left the long guard hairs intact, and less poof, but less blanket, also. :D

I didn't get the Mars comb, but a similar one, that is a bit smaller. Actually there were quite a variety in the local pet supply stores. They vary in price, but remember that you get what you pay for.

I tried the Furminator and hated it. It strips out everything...over coat, undercoat..and skin! It doesn't distuingush very well, I find.
I wouldn't use a slicker all over unless you really know what you are doing and are very careful. Those things can make some nasty scratches that hurt and become infected very easily.
I would just use a comb, grooming in lines from the skin out, to remove undercoat if that is what you wish to do.

A haircut down to 2 or 3 inches is a fast and easy solution too.
The furminator is not a sheepdog grooming tool!!! It is just not designed for this coat and will end up ripping out coat and that will cause the dog discomfort and you tons of headaches.

You can get along very well with diligient combing of your OES. You'll take out a lot of the undercoat and the regrowth won't be as rough to deal with. You'll need a medium texture of comb to do it. Just line groom with the brush to get big messes out of the way and follow with the comb.
I've never heard of a Furminator, sounds brutal 8O
