I took the pups to the park today by myself, as Don has Christmas stuff to do. We normally both go, but today it was just me and the pups. We had been there for a bit, then a gentleman showed up with his aussie and was throwing a ball for it. Anyone who spends anytime at a dog park knows that all the dogs join in, and it is a kind of free-for-all with the running, and who gets the ball first etc. At one time it was Bosley who go it, and when he brought it back he didn't drop it . The guy kind of got a bit frustrated and kept yelling "drop it" at him. I called Bosley over, said "off" (the word we use) took the ball and tossed it to the guy. I kind of thought he looked a bit pissed, and felt it was odd...but anyway. Then a dog was running and playing tag with Dixie, and Dixie jumped up on top of a picnic table to get away. She ALWAYS does that, and if someone happens to be sitting on the table , well, they get kisses. It just so happens that this fellow's water thermos was on the table and Dixie knocked it over. It wasn't closed right, and the water spilled all out. The guy sauntered over, and said angrily "aw...look what you did!" to Dixie. I I thought he was joking and asked him if he wanted some of my water, as I had some left. He replied "no, he (meaning his dog) just won't get anything to drink now". Then, when he went to put the cap on the thermos Dixie, still on the table, went over to give him a kiss. He shoved her away and said "and get off of the table"... I was in shock.....I called the dogs and we left.... My blood was boiling the more I pondered over what just had happened. When I got home I told Don what happened and he said it was a good thing that he wasn't there as it would have gotten ugly. Isn't that stupid for a guy to get upset at something like that? I guess I should have said something, but the guy seemed to be an idiot, and I have found that you can only be reasonable with reasonable people.. Fortunately there are always enough people give Dixie hugs and lots of positive attention that one idiot isn't going to affect her. I don't believe in corporal punishment or any kind of physical violence, but I can tell you that I sure felt like smacking him!!! |
|
I think he sounds like a scrooge .
I guess all you can do is just hope he behaves better with his own dog............................ |
I would of socked him in the smacker.
I suppose there is people like that everywhere that every so often you have to encounter. Let's hope he is not there next time you go to the park and if he is well don't YOU leave let him leave if your dogs get too annoying for him. He will learn then how dogs play, behave and have fun. Geez dixie don't try and kiss him, use the paw girl and whack him. Aim right next time with the paw and send him flying |
What a nasty, nasty man |
I think every park has that moron. You know, the guy that forgets that there are actually dogs at the dog park and has a hard time understanding dog behavior. I hate that guy. |
How about another point of view.....
Maybe this guy had never been to a dog park before. Maybe he thought that he could just play with his own dog and not have to play with everyone else's dog there. Maybe he didn't think it was appropriate for a dog to be standing on the table. Maybe he assumed that the table was there for the people to use not the dogs. Maybe it wasn't even his dog there...he might have been dog sitting and he might not even be a dog person. I'm sure you won't have to be worried about him again...he will probably not go back to that dog park as he obviously did not have a good time there. Or he could just be a jerk |
Sounds kind of jerky to me. IMO, anything object is fair game at a dog park. Why would they have picnic tables there anyhow. Can you imagine what would happen if someone brought a picnic lunch there to chow down on?? Just having treats in my pocket can sometimes cause quite a commotion. |
How dare he TOUCH DIXIE!!!....that man would of been wearing his testicles for earrings if he touched my dog.
For someone to come to a park with a ball and think that no other dog was going to play with it.. well that's just silly....that's what dogs do...he needs to get with the program. Murphy sounds very much like Dixie.. there is a picnic table at our dog park... not for picnics.. but for people to sit on and the dogs.. Murphy lays up there to take in the surroundings, give kisses.. try to steal licks of a Tim's if anyone sets it down...all the dogs do it...if people want a picnic .. they go to the no-dog area of the park designated for that. Our dog park is section off into off-leash trails and leashed trails...we stick to the off-leash trails.. which are CLEARLY stated.. there is not a day that goes by that some non-dog person is walking the trail.. which is fine.. but when they started yelling to you "to put those dogs" on a leash.. well that is when we calmly and polietlly tell them that they need to read the signs.... About two months ago, I was in the park with the boys, it was a drizzly day, we were sauntering along the trail and we meet this man, who is just standing off to the side having a smoke, with his umbrella up.. the girls walk past...saying good morning.. etc... I was bringing up the rear as usualy (Dudley dilly dallys).. Murphy is ahead of me and I see him go over to say hi to the man... the man takes the handle of the umbrella and SMASHES Murphy in the head.... I FREAK.... the girls come running back to see what is going on... the man is Yelling.. I don't like dogs.. put him on a leash, the girls are trying to explain that it's a off leash area...if he didn't like dogs he should of stuck to the leashed area....I'm freaking cause Murphy is crying.....I lost it... the man left the park without an umbrella....I grab it from him and smashed it against a tree....not a very mature thing to do.. I know... but no one touches my dogs... Brenda.. who needs angry management..... |
mean mean scrooge man |
You know life is just too short to be upset over a little
spilled water and other dogs at the dog park. This guy was looking for something to be angry about - maybe he is feeling mean because he is spending the holidays alone. Sounds like a mean 4 year old with no emotional control. Shellie |
People are very possessive of their dog and their dog's toys......and believe their dog is perfect. As sheepdog owners we know our dogs won't stand for such silliness and barge right in.
You met a very selfish man with no sense of humor. I'm sorry. Be like your dog and live for the moment and don't dwell in the past.....because it is...gone. Next time go play in another area, don't let the bad guys run you off. If others enjoy Dixie's antics, maybe Scrouge will soften up....(when pigs fly.) |
We ususally offend someone or their dog everytime we go. Remy has this in your face attiutude with dogs who want to play fetch. She wants them to run so then she can chase.
BUT ball crazy dogs get all growly with her, and we just gotta keep moving. I've been finding that if I want to go and enjoy a good walk, I need to go early am...before it's to busy. Too bad that guy was being a jerk. He was obviously only there to give his dog exercise, and to be alone. He probably treats his dog the same way, and never thought twice about what he did to Dixie. |
OMG, I totally would have gone off on this guy.
What a jerk! |
I agree, mean mean man...who cares about a little water and not only that but you offered some of yours...you just never know what and who you are going to encounter at a dog park...we took panda yesterday and left after a half hour...there was a dog that was overly aggressive and the owner actually said..."good boy, you won that one!" Brian and i were appaulled...we left. |
Sorry this is a little off subject, but after reading Darcy's reply it made me think of this........
I have wanted to take Harley to the dog park in Nashville for the longest time now but I have been to concerned about nasty people and nasty dogs! Just last week in pets-mart I had to grab the leash from my husband (Bob the builder..lol) and pull Harley away from a nasty pit. As a mom to a upright and many other fur kids and feather kids I think we have a sense when something is not right. Sure enough I found out by a store clerk that this pit and another one almost killed each other in there a few weeks back .I asked why the dog was allowed back in the store and was told the people blamed the other dog and they said if they were not allowed back they would be discriminating against there dog. I just cant imagine what I would do if something happened to my boy. Oh and Bosley's mom, If you ever see this jerk again go sit where ever he is and say with a BIG simile on you face 'remember me?' Then pat your hand on the table and tell Dixie 'come up baby and see our old friends' Boy that would piss him off..............and I guarantee you will get a kick out of his expression. |

LMAO |
That's just plain crummy. We've met some not so nice people at the dog park too. Some just don't like sheepdogs I've been told. One lady told me her dog doesn't "like" hairy dogs. Their loss.
Kiss Dixie for us. We love her and Bosley. |
