OES very sick after eating yarn - DESPERATE FOR HELP

About two weeks ago, our little Sophie ate a skein of yarn. She spent two days throwing up until what seemed to be all the yarn had come out and continured to throw up bile. Needless to say, she ended up at the vet where they sono'd her and xrayed her and said they found nothing - no yarn or anything else that could explain her throwing up.

She was fine for a few day. We had to switch her food, as she no longer would go near the food she once ate (the vet said it was bec. she associated it as the reason she was throwing up) Even so, she ate, but she just wasn't right - her 'spirit' seemed to be broken.

At this point, she's even stopped eating her new food. . Now she can't even eat an ice cube or drink water without vomiting. The vet is at a loss. She did have a fever and was given an antibiotic shot.

HELP! Does this sound like something anyone can give me some clues about??? At a loss and very worried.

Sounds like you have reason to be worried. Has the vet done an Xray of her intestines since the original one to make sure she doesn't have a subsequent blockage?

It may be time to try another Vet.
I would think the vet may want to do exploratory surgery to see if a piece of yarn has twisted her intestine somewhere?
I would ask the vet to do another xray.... it sounds like she may have a blockage or possibly twisted intestines...
Ultrasound after the XRay if the XRay doesn't show anything at this point.
This is all TO familiar to me!!!! She sounds like she has a blockage. My Berner has just had an operation 4 weeks ago to remove a rope tuggie from his intestines... he spent two day prior to the operation throwing up the tuggie.. which looked like it was all of it, but in fact it had moved to his intestines.... this is serious....

I would go to another vet...ask them to do an xray, then do a barium.. which will tell you if there is anthing moving through her stomach into her intestines... this needs to be done ASAP....if she has a blockage, it needs to be removed as soon as possible.
I wouldn't think yarn would show up in an xray. Definitely should think about exploratory surgery. Also, I think I would change vets too.

Dudster, sorry to hear about Baxter too!

Bingley sends some gentle sheepie hugs -
Sophie is in the medical center where they are going to do exploratory surgery. They said the possibilities are as follows: 1. her sono showed inflamed pockets in her intestines. When they get in there, they examine those pockets and remove whatever is in them. 2. The yarn eating is a coincidence and she has cancer, as her 9 lb weight loss (she's only 52 to begin with) since Thanksgiving indicates that her body isnt allowing her to recieve nurtition. 3. They go in there and find out nothing and are back to square one.
Will keep you posted...
I am hoping for the best. We're here for you.

Thinking of you and sophie
Poor Sophie! We're sending good wishes your way.

We had a similar situation last Xmas with a rope toy. The Xrays didn't show anything because the cotton fabric doesn't show on regular xrays. After a week of throwing up daily, Bailey threw up this huge wad of fiber. We were very lucky that he didn't need surgery. I wish dogs were smart enough to avoid eating the things that are bad for them :(
Just catching up d/t computer problems - I hope you are doing well. I hope Sophie has a successful surgery. :hearts: from our house.
Just catching up on this thread from the week-end. Anxiously awaiting to hear how Sophie made out with the surgery. Hugs and prayers are being sent to get you through this hard time.
