He was a senior and black, (these animals are always last to be adopted) and had spent the entire duration of his life under a porch. He would never be considered a cuddly lap cat, so another strike against him. They were desperate for a foster home to be found, not even considering anyone in their right mind would even consider adopting him. Apparently, he was very hard to trap as he had lived under that porch for most of his life. The owner had moved away some time ago. Midnight, as he was called has now spent 3 months at the shelter and was severely stressed as you can imagine. The shelter just wanted to find him a place that would allow him to spend his days outdoors, going against their usual policy of indoor homes only. A barn which he could stay warm and dry was suggested as perhaps that place. I emailed them and said , I have the perfect place!! Although the "Riviera" isn't officially opened, this poor boy couldn't afford to wait. The co-ordinator called me back and after passing inspection that my sister and I were reponsible pet owners she told me about the "others". They had 10 semi-feral cats whom desperately needed homes - these cats had only known the mean streets after owners moved and left them behind and being caged was stressing them out. No! "Don't tell my sister about them", I pleaded. She hasn't moved in yet and has no job, so no income at the moment. "I'm the logical one which is why I'm calling', I told the woman. Cough..cough this is coming from me whom has 11 furballs residing at my home. My sister is a much bigger softie than I am!!! I'm the "harder nosed one!" The woman agreed, but did tell me about 2 others which they considered "critical" in terms of stress. All the cats had been neutered, spayed and innoculated. I did say that perhaps Midnight would get lonely by himself and perhaps one or two more would be okay but I'm not going to answer for my sister..but don't tell her about the other 7! My sister currently has 6 of her own pets, I should mention. PS and no barn cat will live on mice either as we save those too..nyuck nyuck! Nope good food and lots of love, and acres for them to roam should they desire it. My sister called me today...Guess what? I'm getting 3 cats! So while I couldn't save Riviera..his memory helped save some more lives. May he be smiling down from the Rainbow Bridge. Marianne and the boys |
