When i had a male i just used "male" collors in his hair.
And when people thought that he looked like a girl i didn't care.. As long as u r happy with his looks that is all that counts. |
Maybe just a plain rubberband?
We put a pink rubberband in Yuki's hair in hopes people will guess she is a girl. People ASSUME she's a boy because she's big. |
Nelson begs to have his hair tied up so he can see what's going on around him. He doesn't care if we use a pink band or a black one but the little clear silicone ones work the best.
He's a big boy and nobody mistakes him for a girl. |
I'm afraid being mistaken as a girl is a way of life for boys with topknots. Right now I've got Clyde's hair in two ponytails, one over each eye, like devil horns. He's very secure with his sexuality though, so he doesn't mind.
This topknot went beyond silicone bands so I got one of those Goody Stayput bands that are wider with rubber in them and that thing worked like a charm. |
Jake had a really heavy coat.
We used a barrette at times, a scrunchy (a cloth covered elastic) other times. |
I would just use a dark elastic, and you can adjust the topknot so the elastic can't even be seen and fluff a bit of hair over it.
Now, Panda is a girl, but in this pic, her hair is up and you can't see the elastic. |
Adorable pics everyone!! |
I agree .Such nice sheepies!!!! |
Check my avatar for a Toby pic. We use the dual ponytails and if we set them out to the side a bit then there's not too much assumption by people.
I don't know why but people always think Suzi is a boy and Toby is a girl. I think it's the people who are weird! |
Here's Frank's top knot from the summer. I guess I don't do a great job of keeping his eyes free like everyone else's photo. Right now he has about 4 inches of coat and there is a rubberband over each eye which really looks like pig tails.

Those top knots somehow make these sheepies resemble Sumo Wrestlers. Sumo Sheepies!!!!! |
I can't say that I'm in favour of a top knot for boys. Just doesn't sit right even though Michele does sometimes put Martin or Virgil's hair up in a topknot. It's certainly fine for the Dawnster Monster, our not so little bulldozer girl but for the big boys....
You might want to try a good barette as an alternative. For an example see my late Punk, nothing "girly" about this big boy at all. Even with the barette nobody mistook him for a girl. Granted it's hard to find a good barette that doesn't slip now a days but if you can find one - and you may have to try quite a few to get a good one - they really keep the face clear of hair. Just an alternative. |
Wow, he looks like an afghan to me Such beautiful long hair and straight!!!!! |
How about having the tuft of hair point more backwards than straight up? I think it's the "pineapple" that would make them look girly, but if the hair was pulled and bunched in such a way that it laid flat on the head and toward the tail, he'd probably look more boy-ish.
it's a thought. |
I've actually braided it back and fastened that way before, too, so it wasn't a big ponytail on top of his head. Ultimately, though, I found it stayed in the best on top of the head. |
I was wondering about the topknot for boys too! I can't even tell Panda's hair is up in that pic!!! She looks so cute!!!!
