We have our farm up there and at the moment only 5 km from the fires. My hubby was up there on the weekend, we moved the motor bikes, trailer, chainsaw and four wheel drive into town and stored them at a friends place in town. He attached the fire fighting hoses in readiness so if the fires changes directions the CFA can use the tanks for firefighting. Heavy machinery have been working in the area all weekend, bulldozing fire breaks around the township. Kevington, just up the road, has been told to evacuate and so has knockwood and woodspoint, all little mountain towns. Now cross fingers that there is no wind change and also over the mountain behind us is King Valley which has another raging fire and we are all hoping that the two fire fronts don't join up or there is no stopping this one with predictions that if it does, it will burn most of summer due to the drought and lack of water in the region. All these fires were caused from lightening strike and the dry conditions. Very scary conditions and with a terrifying summer and hotter weather ahead we are hoping our mountain paradise/house survives this. |

Yikes Lisa! That is very scary indeed. I hope all your good planning means it won't have been necessary (on the if you bring an umbrella it never rains basis). I will be crossing my fingers for you and your farm. I hope no one is injured as well. Please keep us posted. |
Lisa, how awful! We'll keep our fingers crossed for your family and everyone else in the area. |
Here is an article on whats happening up there today, elvis has been grounded due to the smoke.
http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/story/ ... 61,00.html We don't live there on a permanant basis, but am very worried for all our friends up there that do live permantly in the area. Told my husband if the farm goes up, well we have insurance, you can always re-build, but you can't replace lives. Had to stop him going up there last night, just told him to wait and see what happens. What will be, will be. |
Scary!! I hope your farm and your friends' properties are ok. |
Very scary.... *hugs* we'll be keeping you all in our thoughts, I hope everyone, and everything, pulls through it ok. |
Just had a huge scare, on the afternoon news a few homes are gone on the outskirts of Jamieson, they flashed a picture of a burning house, it looked like ours.
David just rang the neighbours, no not ours and he said we are safe at the moment as the northerly is blowing it away from us and them at the moment. No wind changes please. PHEW |
All our fur kids and I will do a rain dance for you!
You are in our prayers. |
That's very scary! I am keeping you in my thoughts. Good thinking to not let hubby go back there. |
Lisa: I will definatly keep my fingers crossed for all of you. We went through a similar scare this past winter/spring with the fires here in Florida. They came as close as a mile away. Please take care and I'll pray for your neighbors as well. |
YIKES, keeping fingers crossed and praying for rain!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
I'm using all of my Seatle heritage to try and get some rain your way!!! Hopefully they are able to get the protective measures to work out for you guys too. |
Here's hoping the fire will spare you home and that of your friends as well.
Our fingers are crossed for you your family. Be safe. Brenda, Dud and Murph |
Oh, Lisa, how terrifying! Thank God your husband listened to you and didn't go up to your farm. Will keep you in my thoughts and prayers until the fires are under control. |
Frightful! I've got my fingers crossed and will be praying for rain! |
How scary! I hope the wind stays a favorable direction and that the fire comes under control quickly.
There's a big fire in California right now and the video they had of it on the news was one of the most showing one I've seen of how quickly the wind can change and blow the embers and spark new blazes. |
I'm doing a rain dance as I type! |
Lisa, prayers said that everyone stays safe and that your farm comes through unscathed. Please tell your husband to stay home with you and the sheepie girls--no house is worth risking his life. |
How scary! We're thinking of you, loved ones, land and homes. Keep us posted. XOXO |
thinking and praying for you all |
It must be terrifying knowing people up there, and the risk of losing all your stuff
Our fingers are crossed for you and your friends!! |
Fingers are crossed and good thoughts are with you!! Keep us posted.... |
Hi Lisa,
I know how scary this must be for you guys. We go through this a lot (in fact just this last summer... twice) with my grandparents property. They are in an area prone to forest fires. I hope your property continues to remian safe, and that the fire prevention techniques continue to work to keep everything in that are safe! Do you have any livestock over there? |
Lisa, You guys are in my prayers. Please keep us posted.

Not looking good at the moment, Jamieson is on stand by to evacuate, the wind change came, even though cooler today, it is driving the fire front towards the town. So we will see what happens in the next 24 hours.
Our neighbours have just trucked there Alpacas out of the area this morning and are staying to the last minute. Firefighters are coming in by the end of the week from USA, New Zealand and Canada to relieve and help the situation. As no more man power from other states as NSW and SA are battling big blazes too. Forcast for Saturday is 37 C with hot dry northerlys and the two major fire fronts are looking like they are going to join up. So far 12000 Hectares has gone up in the area and 3 homes lost at the moment. Most of it is National Park with small mountain communities/towns now facing a dreadful few days. There is no stopping this monster fire front, they are just concentrating on saving properties and making sure people get out in time. |
Oh Lisa,
I was praying things would change when I read your post this morning. Didn't have time to comment at the time as I was rushing off to work. I'll keep you and everyone involved in my thoughts. I'm worried about you, your family and neighbors..hope everyone stays safe. Marianne and the boys |
Lisa,
Please keep you and your family safe, my friend. Will keep all of you in my prayers. |
This is NOT the news I was hoping to hear.
I so hope they can get this under control. |
I'm so sorry to hear it's not going well. Keep us updated and we'll keep you in our prayers. |
Wow - fires are terrifying. We had to worry about our home every summer in Montana. We'll be keeping you in our thoughts and prayers. |
Lisa i hope u and your family and loved onces will stay save!
I went a few years ago to family in penrith near sydney. In the mountains there were fires as well, that was so scary. |
Hi Lisa,
Our prayers are with you for everyone in the area. We hope conditions improve soon and that everyone is safe. How frightening. Please keep us updaed when you can. |
Saturday is D-Day on wether the place survives, Temperatures are predicted to be in the 40'sC.
So if we don't burn down that day, then we will have a early christmas miracle, my hubby and I are leaving the doggies at my mums on Sunday and going up. It should be safer to go then and at the moment no power as all the lines are down, so are the telephone lines as well, thank goodness for cell phones. Neighbours are keeping us up-to-date, everyone is expecting an enormous fire front joining up with the conditions on Saturday, 56 fires burning in the Alpine region all combining for a monster fire front. No stopping it then, 600,000 Hectares of wilderness are tipped to explode into a massive fire ball. Over 100,000 hectares has already burnt in the area. All towns and communities have been told to go by saturday or they may not get out because of the mountain roads being blocked by fire and falling trees. So hopefully after the weekend I can post that our mountain paradise has survived or not. Ember attacked is the worst, fire fronts can be many Kilometres away, but the embers fall everywhere and start fires again in other spots. Kevington just up the road they gave up there last night fighting the fires. Cool day today and tomorrow, but saturday is the day all hell will explode in the region. Firefighters from overseas will be in the region on Saturday to Help, Elvis has been joined by another skycrain, Malcom along with many other fixed wing and chopper water bombers. Keep those fingers crossed for all the people in the region. |
Wow, sounds really intense, everyone must be so stressed out...
Still keeping our fingers crossed for everyone! |
Wow, that sounds awful. Stay safe, and I'll continue to cross my fingers for everyone else! |
Oh, Lisa, this is not the update I wanted to hear. Please stay safe - if you lose your vacation home, so be it. Property can be replaced - lives can't. Keep us informed. |
Please be safe over there Lisa! You guys are irreplaceable! The plants will grow again, the house can be rebuilt. Be careful... our prayers and thoughts will be with you guys! |
Safety first, Lisa!!!!! Safety first!!!!!
Let the local dispatch center know when you go in and when you go out and check in with them so they know exactly where you are should you need help!!!! |
Oh I know that Mandy, I just had a huge argument with my 22 year old son this morning, he wanted to go up today, but the reports say Jamieson road closed. 2000 firefighters are in the area, huge contingent came into the town last night.
We argued, big time and I told him to go to work not up there Thank goodness for mum power and will to finally convince him to stay away. What will be, will be, pictures on the news this morning and the township is covered in thick smoke. I don't want him anywhere in that region, just not worth the risk. |
Please be so careful because even when the fires seem to have gone the underbrush and the ground is still on fire. We went through this this past Winter and Spring. Please be careful the smoke is terrible, hard to breath. Don't put yourself in danger. |
