thank you, Thank You, THANK YOU for doing this!
I know how hard it is to say goodbye, we fostered a dog for 4 months once and it was heartbreaking to let him go! I can't imagine fostering so many! Thanks again. |
I can't imagine fostering 3 at a time especially with a husband right out of surgery.
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! |
How nice of you all to be so kind. It was hard work and I almost lost my mind. I have never done three fosters at once and the post spay/neuter made it harder. But I made it!!!!
Wynette, my husband has not had surgery yet but is probably headed there!! Still needs to be off his knee due to the swelling. How did you do with your barking dog?? These dogs howled all night once they bonded to me. (just the last three nights!!)So I guess I was lucky?!? Shelby howled all night last night so I guess I will pull her up in my den and sleep there. She has free run of my basement but cannot have free run upstairs with my dogs. She will need to be crated. I was thinking of trying a bark collar just at night but don't know if it would work on howling(the spray kind). She is good durning the day I go down a lot with her but at night I think she wants to be with us. What sheepdog dosen't??? Any help would be appreciated. |
What you did for these dogs is amazing. Were they transported to foster or permanent homes? Either way, you were the start of their new, happy, beloved lives. Your first post says you kept Jasmine -- is that right? Or did you keep Shelby? |
[b][i]Honey, I really appreciate you Helping These Babies. Some of may not know but Shelby was one of My Babies. I had a spay neuter contract with Hillary and the AKC registration was for Limited Registration. I even payed part of the Vet bill to have her spayed. Mercy........ It was after she got Millie and Rufus that she started to breed. When I found out I wa really upset. But there was nothing I could do about it. They weren't My Babies. I knew she couldn't breed Shelby. She may heve used Shelby as the hook to get people to buy a puppy.
I have been after her for years to stop. Finally I think she ran into some real problems and agreed to give them up. That is when I called Grannie Annie and asked for her help in getting out. OESRNE paid for all the spay neuter of the 4 of them. I was going to fly Shelby back here but Grannie Annie said she had a good home for her up there. I have the AKC paperwork on Shelby and will send that to the New Parents. I really Appreciate OESRNE help in getting this done. Certainly Your Help in fostering them. Sheepie Hugs, Kaye |
Great job!!!! |
Good for you. It's one of the hardest things in the world to watch them go - even when you know it is too a good place. |
I still have sweet shelby.... Rufus and jasmine have homes awaiting them. A foster has them waiting for pick up . One dog is leaving this morning . |
Oh I understood that Grannie Annie had a home for Shelby. IF not I will fly her back here to me. I'll talk to her and see. This just shows you when you think you have done everything you could do You ARE BROUGHT TO YOUR KNEES AGAIN....... Sheepie Hugs, Kaye |
Kaye,
Shelby has a home waiting I am just holding on to her longer because she was spayed so close to her heat cycle and I wanted her all healed. She has a good home waiting I just don't know who is is G/A has it all covered Hope your hubby has adjusted Cindy |
Isn't it ODD that I payed for part of the Vet Bill to have Shelby spayed and she was coming in heat?????????? I will pull the records and do some checking..... Hillary was in My Parents Group and I remember when she said that this women had given her a female that was pregnant. Then Ruffus showed up. Then her selling the puppies for $800.00. I THREW A FIT!!!!!!!!! No Medical History at all. Then breeding Molly everytime she came in heat. Litter after litter....... Knowing from the the first litter that there were severe health problems. I just feel for all those Poor Parents....... GREED!!!!!!!! WHAT GOES ROUND COMES ROUND!!!!!!! KARMA !!!!!!!!!!!!! Sheepie Hugs, Kaye |
Kaye,
You have enough stress in your life. Shelby has a better life ahead of her. She is safe now that is all that matters Cindy |
Any legitimate Rescue has their dogs spayed or neutered prior to going to a new home. Period. As trustworthy as you think an adopting home may be, sometimes the lure of money outweighs the concern for the animal.
How sad that Shelby should have been happy in her forever home and ended up as breeding stock for a backyard breeder. Thanks to Cindy, Mandy, NEOESR and everyone else involved in the real rescue of these dogs. |
I am so confused by this story about Shelby - can someone explain it to me? Where did she come from and where did she go? |
Is this the lady in Baltimore? I've heard lots about? |
I;m sorry I probally didn't make myself clear. Shelby was one of My Puppies. She had limited registration and a spay neuter contract. When she was about 1 year old Hillary got Molly and Rufus and started breeding. Julie in Tenn was the go between that talked Hillary into giving them up. She told Julie that she never bred Shelby. With Limited Registration the puppies couldn't have been registered. It was Molly that had all the puppies. Hillary was having money problems when it came time to have Shelby spayed. I paid 1 /2 of the vet bill to have her spayed. I received paperwork that said Shelby had been spayed. I didn't know that she hadn't been until Hillary told Julie. I came down so hard on Hillary when she started breeding that she wouldn't return my emails or phone calls. When it was decided that Hillary would give them up I contacted Grannie Annie and asked her for help getting Rufus, Molly and Jasmine. I really appreciate all that she did. Sheepie Hugs, Kaye |
Thanks to all involved! You have hearts of gold!!
I had all but given up hope she would be stopped. Now we should get all of Rufus and Mollie's kids together for a playday. Have a great day, Eric |
Be careful what you ask for Eric! That could be a huge play date!!!
When all of this started, who would have thought that one day we'd be able to find some humor in it? Thankfully there is finally something to be happy about! |
Too bad we can't do something to prevent this " lady" from doing this again. Fast, easy, money is an evil for alot of people and it's unfortunate, once they find it, they usually go back. |

When all of this started, who would have thought that one day we'd be able to find some humor in it? Thankfully there is finally something to be happy about! It could be fun though. Just need a forty acre field. I have stressed over this whole situation too much. I tried every avenue I could think of. Then, out of the blue this all took place. Fortunately, she is done for now. Don't even get me started about why the AKC should ban her from ever registering another litter. I have two great kids that I would not trade for the world and they are in their furever home, think I will go snuggle them right now. Have a great night, Eric |
It feels like Christmas at my house already!! (no I don't have a gift bought or a decoration up!!) but the last of my fosters will be headed for her new home friday!! and I will help place two German Shepherd Dogs next week by doing home visits!! Yes I guess I am now (as my children say)the crazy dog lady!! It was hard to take three dogs, especially after spays/neuter but with the help of NEOESR things worked out fine!! I provided a home and they opened their pocketbook and payed for everything!!. It was very expensive to rescue these wonderful doggies. If folks were more careful in placing dogs and breeding dogs this would not have happened. I would like to share more thoughts on this adventure and what I have learned but will need to do so after Friday!!! Right now I am just busy being happy......... |
Thanks for doing not only a wonderful thing for these dogs, but preventing more dogs being bred into this situation. I am not into a situation right now where I can rescue ( need a fence first ), but hope to be in late spring. I have offered and will continue to offer transport when needed. I'm not a crazy dog lady yet......but it is a goal of mine, LOL..........Kathy |

Kaye, if you run a "rescue", an altered dog should not be allowed out of your hands before being spayed or neutered. A spay/neuter "contract" is worth less than the paper it's written on. A "limited registration" means just about as much. Paperwork can be easily forged and dogs don't know whether they're registered or not. They still reproduce creating unwanted, uncared for and most importantly, unhealthy puppies as a result. If this "breeder" was having money problems was it really appropriate to hand her the cash? Shelby should have been spayed before leaving your home. Was a home visit ever done on this woman? My understanding is that the condition of this home was deplorable and to adopt an animal into such a place was unimaginable. I certainly hope all of your dogs are spayed or neutered as there seems to be an unusually large number of puppies coming out of your rescue... |
She has lots of puupies because she has been rescuing females either pregant or just gave birth! |
I must say I have just started doing OES rescue, but have done GSD rescue for years it is few and far between other than a backyard breeder that dogs are taken from that you get puppies that are not mixed. Not that many are surrendered that have been bred with another dog of the same breed ,it does happen but these dogs can be sold! Poor Shelby, as well as the other two that were rescued lived in horrible filth. You could even see it on the web page. I have heard from people that bought from this breeder and had comments on how "nasty" for lack of better words this breeders place was. All the dogs had to be groomed at NEOESR rescue's expense and poor Shelby was shaved and clipped by me and another kind OES owner. The water was black when we rinsed her and she stunk when I picked her up. Shelby is a very poorly bred OES and should never been registered much less bred. She is a loving dog none the less. This was a sad situation , that had a good ending but people need to be very careful as to who they are dealing with and how they represent their rescue or breeder status. Shelby's home could not have had a home check and the vets office was more than thrilled that I was taking these dogs into foster, so a good reference would not have been found there. We all want to help save dogs lives not destroy them. We all need to be a voice for these dogs. |
I think that I remember that Kaye was a breeder before the rescue. That is why she had a limited registration on the pups, as they left her at an age too young to be spayed or neutered. She was doing the right thing, someone else just did not keep up their end of the agreement. Someone please correct me if I am wrong. I also believe that is part of the reason she went from a responsible breeder to rescue, that and she loves them all! |
FWIW, and I am not trying to offend anyone, Kaye sent Shelby when Hillary lived at an apartment in Towson, Md. There were no other dogs there at the time. Mollie and Rufus showed up afterwards. This was an apartment, but at least it was nice. That is where we got our kids. This was Mollie's second or third litter. She had four more litters after we got our puppies. Two litters after ours, Hillary moved to the house in Baltimore and it is a dump. In a horrible part of town, very small yard, I could go on and on.
Shelby never had puppies. Hillary told us Rufus was just not interested in her. It was almost two years ago when I noticed and confirmed our dogs hip problems. Kaye was one of the first to help. She learned some more about what Hillary was up to and told me Shelby was spayed and could not have any puppies. I guess, as it turned out, Hillary never got it done. Grannie Annie also contacted me and tried to convince Hillary that what she was doing was wrong. Kaye had done this, but Hillary quit taking her calls, just as she quit taking mine. I also received much support from this board. Kaye's rescue is fairly new I believe, I could be wrong. I think she learned that she could not trust everyone about doing what they say. Based on all my dealings with Kaye, all she ever wanted to do was to stop this little puppy mill. I think she was a breeder in the past. Maybe she had some problems, maybe not. She was also the first one to contact me when all of this started to take place so don't be too hard on her. If mistakes were made in the past, maybe lessons were learned from them and people can change. I made a mistake getting my dogs from a backyard breeder. I did not know any better at the time. I did know to avoid pet stores. I did feel strange that she did not really care where her puppies were going to live, but I like to think of myself as a nice trustworthy person and just thought she took me at my word. I know more now and will get a rescue dog next time. I love my kids and they are very healthy and they will always get what they need to be healthy and pain free. They are wonderful dogs and I would not trade them for the world. Just so everyone knows, Hillary told us that they used to breed Newfoundlands before the Sheepdogs. I am pretty sure the same thing must have happened there as well. Hillary should just be banned by the AKC from ever registering another dog. I wonder which breed she will start fouling up next. Anyway, I think everyone here can learn something from this whole situation. I hope I did not offend anyone, but some of the posts seemed to be blaming Kaye for this whole situation. I think Kaye has no idea where Rufus or Mollie came from. They were all Hillary's doing. I am forwarding my dogs papers to G/A so she can try to find out and work on that further. Merry Christmas!!!! Eric, Bailey and Madison |
Eric,
My first OES came from a pet store. It was 35 years ago. I knew that good dogs did not come from a pet store but at the time did not know about puppy mills and how pet stores promoted the cruel treatment of dogs in these mills, so don't blame yourself. Hopefully your dogs won't have any problems , they are in a safe ,loving home. I picked these dogs up. Shelby has had puppies ,probably more than one litter. I have done rescue for awhile and just want prople to be careful and for others to take responsibilty for their actions. Sometimes things are not what they seem. |
Great, I guess we can just pile that up on yet another lie Hillary told.
You are such a great person to have spent the time and effort to take care of these dogs. Both of my kids have horrible hip Xrays. We had them Xrayed while they were getting spayed and neutered, at 6 months, as Baileys hip had been clicking. The orthopedic surgeon advised against surgery and said some dogs have horrible Xrays and never show a problem. We do exacly what he said, feed high quality large breed dog food, keep their weight down, although Bailey weighs 95lbs(no fat though) take them on lots of short walks (no long walks) and give them Cosequin DS at the initial dose. Almost two years later and no signs of HD. They still play like puppies and beat the stuffing out of each other in the house. Hopefully, everything stays that way. Thanks again for all you did. If you ever need any help or transporting, let me know. I am only about an hour away. Have a nice night, Eric |
Eric,
I am so sorry about your dogs. Dogs with HD can live a full life and your dogs have a good home so that helps. Yes we are close maybe one day we can get together. My husband is having knee surgery dec 21 (Oh Merry Christmas) I will keep you in mind if I ever need help. How do you feel about GSD's I have met so many wonderful people on this forum and the nice thing is we care about the dogs!! If anyone can foster for any breed or rescue please do so. Fosters are the backbone of rescues!!! Cindy and the cookie monster gang!! Have a good night |
I got an email telling me that I needed to check the forum messages. Mercy! I guess I need to say something but I don't know what to say. |
I hope that my post did not come across as anything but an attempt to explain Kaye's efforts to protect our "children". I truly believe that she has their best at heart! With all she has on her plate it would be so easy for her to throw up her hands and walk away but she chooses not to |
Kaye, just take a deep breath, start slowly, and tell us your story.
Paragraphs would be helpful, though! Use the "Enter" key when you want one! |
I really don't have a story I am just a little disappointed I guess. I had worked on getting Hillary for years. When I was contacted by Julie in Tenn that was able to make contact with her and she agreed to give them up I ask Annie for help in getting them. The only way she would agree was if NOESER would pay to have them all (including Shelby) spayed and neutered. This goes back to me not acceping finiicial assistance for one of the 4 girls that came out Missouri 2 years ago. So I agreed. I really appreciate all that she did in getting them out and paying for it too. Then I was going to fly Shelby back here to me. But, she had a home for here up there and plus she paid to have her spayed. That would have been rather rude of me to have teken her back then. I thought that everything was fine. Now as far as the other subject.............. I got 7 adults from a puppy mill on the Arkansas & Misosuri line. One of those Babies was pregnant. The next bunch of puppies I got when they were 1 & 3 days old. They were 3 or 4 Daddies involved in that litter. Some were short haired. Some looked like Dalmations. Some had a long snout and some had short snouts. A couple were brown and white. If I was going to have puppies I sure wouldn't have stopped breeding to rescue. I am sorry for this. I have a Great Respect for the people on this Forum. Kaye |
I think they all wanted to know how the blood tests turned out for the older sheepies. Did they get their blood work back? |
