Not a sheepdog, but when my sister was pregnant with her first child, her basset hound, Amos, (who was actually her first child! ) acted as though he was the father. We used to joke about it all the time. He would protect her and always be with her (often lying next to her stomach). It got to the point where he wouldn't let my brother-in-law in bed - he would growl at him! LOL Now, Amos didn't have a mean bone in his body - so this was not typical behavior. He was very aware of the pregnancy!
Well, when my sister had my neice Hailey, she was born with only 4 fingers on her left hand (3 fingers & her thumb). Once it became clear that this was nothing serious or an indication of other health concerns - my sister (relieved!) looks at us and says "Maybe Amos is the father!" (considering dogs only have 4 "fingers" too!) I wonder if this behavior is gender related - anyone know of a female dog that behaved this way during the owner's pregnancy??? Kristen |
My golden retrievers Peanut (girl) and Sam (boy) were both seemingly aware of each of my pregnancies. Both seemed to be very over protective and clingy. |
when I was pregnant with my son my dog Honey would go everywhere with me. When at home she would lay around my stomach and sleep. The last few weeks of my pregnancy my boyfriend slept on the couch and the dog was in bed with me. After I had Corey she wouldn't let anyone she didn't know near him She was such a good girl!!
Honey and I bonded really fast. My good friend found her in the woods in Oregon where someone had dumpded her. She was in bad shape but he took her home fixed her up and brought her to me. (he knew i wanted a dog) I was already a few months along when he brought her to me maybe that had something to do with it. I sure do miss her |
