Be safe everyone! |
Well up here in the Chicago area we got hit. The wind is very strong and the snow hits your face when you walk in it. I got up earlier than usual and of course they did not close the schools so off I went on the train and then about a six block walk to work.
But, Winston our sheepie was excited when he saw the snow. When he got outside he was jumping for joy in the snow. He just loves it. They are predicting 6 to 12 inches of snow. Watching the snow from the train was just beautiful but walking in it is another story. I hope everyone will be safe today in this snowstorm. |
Strange, strange weather. West coast is getting hit with rain/snow/cold temps, midwest is getting pelted, and we are still having unseasonably warm temps, in the 50s and 60s. Won't last long, though. Weatherman says the temps are supposed to start dropping over the week-end, but there's still no snow in our forecast. Weird!! |
We're getting hit big time right now!!!! Our neighborhood looks like Marianne's right now. I LOVE SNOW!!!!!!!! It'll make it difficult to help a friend out today, but they're always good about clearing everything as fast as possible. |
Jo, what's the time difference in Alaska? It seems early in the AM for me right now and I can't imagine how early it is for you to be posting!
Good luck with all the snow...It's supposed to be 76 here today... |
It's 5:30. Lil J got up at 4 this morning because the animals were too loud.
now i'm just up because it's SO pretty outside. weatherman said 8 inches by the time it stops. it'll be higher than that since we already had snow on the ground. |
It was supposed to hit us too, but right now it's just freezing rain, not snow. I prefer snow.... The trees are creaking and crackling and when the wind gusts it sounds like glass breaking in the air when the tree branches hit each other.
It's deceiving, when I looked outside I thought it was just rain and thought I'd still be able to go out of town to get the kids pictures done. Then when I took the dogs out and heard the ice, I don't think I'll be able to go |
Well the news said last night that our freaky cold front is moving rapidly toward the east coast....hunker down my friends....youre going to get it way worse than we did....my space heater is on high for all of you!! |
I should take a pic of how much snow I just shoveled. At least to a Texan, it was A LOT!!!
I'm pissed because there's someone who keeps driving ALL THE WAY UP TO MY DOOR every few days to pull out of their driveway. Some people take pride in their lawn, and I hate seeing tire marks in my grass when the snow melts!!!!!!!!!!! If I was 100% who it was, then I'd knock on their door and give them the ugly face, but I need them to do it one more time to tell. My Bible Study got together some high school boys who were willing to drive to your house and shovel all your snow any time it snows. Our bible study is 80% deployed husbands. Well.. I TURNED IT DOWN because I figured if my neighbor to my right and left can do it, I can!!! My husband was so upset, since he felt the other ladies in my bible study are like superman whether it be because they fix cars and houses for fun or have teenage kids of their own. I guess I'm a helpless olive oyl to him. But since I started getting a "little" sick this morning with a temperature, it made me think it was a bad idea to turn it down. But, I feel SO good after it's done. Like a big accomplishment. And I like looking out in the driveway and seeing it's super clear compared to my neighbors. |
Sigh I really am getting to dislike the snow...
Pam- good luck with the white stuff, and you're right, if possible stay safe and don't go out unless you absolutely have to. It's great to look at but horrible to drive in that kind of weather. Good luck with your experiences! Leanne - you sent those boys to my place I spent 2 hrs shovelling my walk again yesterday and digging my van out. Also want to say thanks for that vid you provided on the other post. Ha Ha! >>Longs to move to sunny Burmuda Marianne and the boys |

Sorry I had to laugh out loud on that one....Olive Oyl...Ha....good one for a sickie..... You didnt get over heated while you were doing it did you? Not good for someone who's getting over a flu or something! |
I don't think so
My nickname has been olive oyl since I was really young. I hated it as a kid, but now I think it's funny. I rather be known as that than be called many other names. |
trust me Olive Oyl isnt bad....I was called Dorse the horse and the worst one by far...rake....'cause if you flipped me over and used my skinny legs as a handle, my buck teeth worked well as a "rake"...sigh....
and you all wonder why I am the way I am??!! |
A ton of snow fell overnight here. Annie went out on the patio and peed right away; Foz ran around and around (so Steve said). From how he looked and dripped all over the floor, I'd say he definitely enjoyed his first snowfall I'll post a picture later. I made the trek to work because believe it or not, I have work to do today! It took me 1.5 hours to go 5-6 miles |
Well it seems I can't rebook my appointment to get pics done, so we're going to have to at least try to go anyway. It seems to be mostly rain and the photographer said everyone seems to be making their appointments ok and on time. There is a fair amount of traffic on the roads, so it must not be too bad.... I hope....
Wish us luck! We have to be there in 2 hours and I still have to take my sons for a haircut |
Be careful Stacey -that ice is rough stuff!
Bizaro weather for sure! We're supposed to be getting the rain (that was snow in the midwest) and cooler temps today (down from the 76 we had yesterday). So far, it's sunny and balmy. Bizare! |
Well, its 2:30 in the afternoon now and the snow is all done. Suns out. All said and done we got between 8-10 inches(depending where you stand). Yes its blowing. We had blizzard warnings out this morning. I love a good storm but hate cleaning up after it. The snow we had was wet and heavy. You know the kind that when the plows go by it turns the end of your driveway into cement. I thought I would give my husband a hand and start blowing the driveway out. Well...what a pain! Wet heavy snow and a little snowblower are not a good mix. I got part of it done and took a break. My husband called while I was on break and I told him what I had done(expecting a pat one the back) and he asked if I put the oil in the gas tank. Oil, what oil? Ah oh . My neighbor came over and finished it off. LOVE that man. Simon and Taylor(my golden) LOVED the snow. Running around and jumping on each other. The snow was almost up to Simons chest so he bunny hopped through it. LMAO. The only bad part was Simon looked like a giant snowball. All that hair and wet heavy snow are not a good combo. I helped him get a good portion off and darn if he didn't want to go back out again. Just like a dog! Hope everyone stayed safe..Pam |
I went out, got the boys hair cut, then started to head to where we were supposed to get pics done. We got halfway and turned around and came back. There are trees down, hydro poles down (yes, a whole pole actually snapped in half! ) and it got worse the further we went.
Then we went to the mall here in town and did a bit of shopping, and when we came out the sun was shining and the rain had stopped I considered heading out to get pics done again, and decided against it as it was getting too late. I guess I'll have to pull the kids out of school to go one day next week when I have a day off.... |
Boy you guys are really getting hit. Somehow, even though Chicago and parts of Ontario got it, we stayed snow-free. All we got was some cold weather and a lot of wind. It looks like we're supposed to get some snow tomorrow but it doesn't sounds like as much as everyone else is getting hit with! |
Not a snowflake here in MN. Sigh... I was hoping for a little something, but we're no where close to the system! Just cold wind! Brr!!!! |
Stay safe everyone!! |
Snow, what's that?
Hope everyone stays safe. From Sunny Australia. |
Only a few flakes here, but single digit temps. Now problem is all the people with wood burning fireplaces and stagnant air mass have created a red alert air warning. yuck
Nary a snow bunny here, when the flakes were falling, they were falling all over themselves to get inside. ssshhhheeessshhh! s. |
We had high 70s here today - yep, in PA! In December!
Of course early this evening the storm front rolled through, and I haven't seen clouds move that fast since the tornado. We had very high winds and a little rain, it is much colder now too. I hope we get cold enough for snow soon. I love it till about mid February. Joahaeyo - Quote: I guess I'm a helpless olive oyl
This is the thing least likely to come to my mind about you! You seem to me to be one of the strongest people I can think of - and if you aren't, you sure project it. Shellie |
I hope everyone stays save too. Here in the netherlands there is hardly any snow in the winters anymore.
When i was a kid the winters where always cold, with lots and lots of snow. Now it is too warm for the time of year........it sure has something to do with the global warming..... |
Our friends from Germany say the same thing. Only 1 - who lives in the south near the alps - gets any snow.
We here in Minnesota are having the same problem. I remember lots of huge snow drifts as a kid. Now we get more freezing rain, and less snow. |
No snow, but veeerrrryyyyyy windy here last nite. So windy that the neighbor's tree fell onto our fence and knocked out a corner.
So we spent the afternoon with a chain saw, cutting the tree down, and then cutting the branches into kindling, and the trunk and large branches into firewood for our bonfires. Good thing, actually because we were runnning our of wood. Then a couple new posts and our fence is up and sturdy again. While we were working Dixie was ever so quiet. We looked for her and found her in some bushes, eating something. There there were no leaves, so we could see her quite well, but too many branches to get at her. Bosley pushed his way through, grabbed a piece right out of her mouth, and came over to see us with a bloody RABBIT LEG!!!!!! That is two bunnies in two days Geezzz! Now I don't know who to blame, but they are making me ill!!!!!!! |
