I entered a contest to win a trip to NY and attend the taping of Rachel Ray's new show (I haven't seen the show, but watched all of her 30 minute meal shows on the Foodnetwork, and loved it!). When I got home from lunch, I had message saying I had won !!! OH MY GOSH! I called back, and kept asking if this was a joke, or a trick, but the man (Jordan) kept giggling and assuring me it was no joke and I had won. Its a trip for two from Chicago to NY. I have to go in Jan or Feb. I get to submit dates, and they will pick one. My husband doesn't want to go, so my daughter Stefanie and I go to NY and make some terrific memories. I want to get a bottle Champagne, and take her for a carriage ride in Central Park...and sip Champagne! I'm looking for other cool suggestions from all of you. I NY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm so excited I can't even get any work done now!!!! |

Oh my gosh! If I was anymore excited, I'd have to call 911!!!!! I'm secretly more excited about going with Stef, than with Tony. She's my shopping pal! You know I've been really down lately, and this seems to have cured my blues! Just what I needed. I think someone's watching over me! (Thanks Mom!) |
Westminster is in February. You could go when all the doggies are in town.
Congratulations and let us know when your trip is!!!! |
Do you know the dates???????????? |
February 12-13. |
I just looked that up. Its Monday and Tuesday. We will be there on a Thursday, Friday and Sat. That would have been very cool, though! |
WAHOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is sooo cool - good for you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
|
OMG Deb.. that is AWSOME!!!!
|
CONGRATS! THIS IS AWESOME! I HOPE YOU HAVE A GREAT TIME!!!! |
Totally awesome!
You could ask them to allow you to pay for your own hotel the Monday, Tuedsay and Wednesday nights... As long as you're in town. But be prepared or forewarned that Manhattan is VERY expensive. |
They said if I wanted to extend my stay, I could (at my own expense). But as you said, it is expensive. They are giving us a prepaid amex card for our expenses for the days we are there. And...its very generous! |
That is awesome!! You should have a blast, especially having the time with your daughter. I love the Rachel Ray shows too, she seems like a fun person.
Have you ever been to NYC before? I will check with my daughter who lives there for fun ideas. Her boss used to be events mgr for Madison Square Garden, and still has all kinds of connections. I have a friend who won a cruise with Wheel of Fortune - their reaction was the same as you!! |
that is so awesome! rachel ray is one of my guilty pleasures, so i am definitely jealous! |
Fantastic, have a great time in New York. Buy a lotto ticket too you never know, you might be on a lucky streak. |
Oh how fabulous!!
I hope you have a wonderful time!! My first thought was Westminster, too. LOL Whatever you decide, I'm sure you'll have a blast with your daughter. |
Deb, that is just the coolest!!!!!! |
WOW! I'm bursting with excitement for you! This is what you needed and it couldn't have come at a better time!
What did you need to do to win the contest? I forget... |
That's great!! OES show at Westminster on Tuesday so you could sneak there really early! I'll be hanging out there on Tuesday too.
There's definitely enough to do in NYC if you decide to stay a couple of extra days. Do you know which hotel yet? Not sure what your interests are but I can help give you some suggestions if you would like. If you're into seeing the TV shows taped live, Martha Stewart show is fun, David Letterman, Regis & Kelly, The View, Tony Danza, Millionaire, Conan. I'm sure somebody else will be taping that week. You have to go see a show on Broadway, go to the "Tickets" Booth on Times Square to get disounted tickets. So many great places to eat. If you're into the eclectic, SoHo is a lot of fun to walk around in, lots of great shopping all over the city. You can go ice skating at Rockefeller Center. Lots of great museums. |
and dont forget to take lots and lots of pictures |
Pssst, Tony Danza's been cancelled and replace with Rachel Ray.
Talk about irony!! |
OMG, how EXCITING, Deb!!! It's always great to have fun on someone else's dime!! I'm so jealous! We're looking forward to LOTS of pictures!! |
Big smile on my face ! That sounds so cool! Any chance of an early arrival on Tues for the dog show finals? Then you need Rachel's $40 a day eating in Manhattan, LOL! The park, museums, oh my. Sounds wonderful. Even if you miss the dog show, it still is a wonderful, wonderful trip. Congratulations! |
That sounds amazing, will you be a guest on the show...or just in the audience?
I'd try to see everything, esp if they are giving you spending money. |
Oh wow how excited you must be Deb! Take lots of pictures (so I can live vicariously)! |
I can't believe you won!!! that's fantastic! I never meet people who win these contests/sweepstakes. I always think no one wins. This is so cool. You'll have to tell us ALLLLLLLLLL about it. I know SEVERAL men who would be jealous you get to be so close to her. They think she's hot. |
Deborah!! I'm so happy for you and congrats!!
The memories you and your daughter will have on that special trip will last a life time. Although it's a couple weeks away , I am looking forward to hearing stories of you trip and experiences. Marianne and the boys |
HOW EXCITING!!!!!!!!!!!! |
OMG she is my hero, I am so excited for you Can't wait to hear all about your trip. I will be in NYC this weekend, I NY |
Winning this contest was pure luck. No skill at all. It was sponcered by Buick and the Rachael Ray Show. You just had to fill out an entry form, and drop it off at a Buick Dealership. I work for Dodge, and we have a Buick store next door, and since I love Rachael Ray, I thought, what the heck! Never, in a million years did I expect to win! Apparently, there were 10 winners in all. Big odds! I think today I'll find out which of the dates I chose will be acceptable. We won't "be" on the show, we just get to attend the taping. It would be cool (since we are winners) if we get to meet RR. I'm going to bring my copy of her cookbook in case we do get to meet her, and I'll ask for an autograph. How small town is that? I DON'T CARE! I'M REALLY EXCITED!!!!! |
How cool! Deb, I'm so excited for you! I love Manhattan, and I love Rachel Ray too. I agree, you need to go to the TKTS booth in Times Square and get discount tickets to see a show. I'm not sure how old your daughter is - she can watch them film MTV TRL in Times Square. Go to Rockefeller Center, even though the tree will be down by then it's still cool to see, you can ice skate, and you can see the Today studio around the corner (go in the morning and watch them broadcast). The fancy shopping is along 5th Avenue in the 50s, but in my opinion it's more fun to shop in the off-beat areas. Go to Canal Street to shop for designer knock-offs. Go to Soho to look in all the cool boutiques. Go to Greenwich Village because there's nothing else like it. I love the Metropolitan Museum of Art. And restaurants - WOW! So many, so much variety.
You're going to have such a great time! |
Congratulations |
How incredible! Congratulations. New York is phenomenal. You will have such a great time.
I love Rachel Ray's show $40 a day. She is cute. Her star has really taken off. The double decker bus tours are cool. You can see quite a bit, if you've never been there. Also, seeing a show is really fun. Shows I saw that were great were The Producers, Rent & Les Miserables (long). Shows I heard were great: Lion King. Probably they are all good. It's the experience. The Museums are HUGE and amazing. Whatever you decide to do, there's tons to do, you will have a great time. |
That's awesome! Enjoy yourself. |
