1/2 cup softened butter 1 1/3 cup sugar 2 eggs 1/2 cup kahlua or chocolate liquer 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 1/2 teaspoon salt 3 cups all purpose flour 1 cup cocoa powder 2 teaspoons baking powder 1/2 cup chocolate chips optional : 1/2 cup chopped almonds 1/2 cup white chocolate chips -Line Cookie sheet with parchment paper -beat butter with sugar until light and fluffy -beat in eggs one at a time -add rest of the wet ingredients -sift all dry ingredients together except almonds and add to the wet mixture -add almonds -spoon dough into two logs lengthwise on the cookie sheet -wet hands slightly with water and gently flatten each log with palms of your hand(approx 4 inches wide and 1 inch thich) -bake at 325F for 35 minutes on center rack -cool and slice each log on a bias (you choose how large I usually make mine about 1/2 inch thick cuts) -place on ungreased/unlined cookie cheet and bake at 300F for 40 minutes cool and then place in a cookie tin....no plastic wrap they get soggy |

OOh I'm glad you like them....the recipe came with the house when we bought it lol! I made them so much my family is sick of them...can you believe it? They are not TRUE chocoholics |
I made them at Christmas and my Daughter and I loved them, but everyone else thought they were too hard. Consequently we ended up eating most of them |
You may want to try some anisette liquor as flavoring too My Mom was born in Italy when she makes them she always puts in a little |
