haha walter ate dirt about 3 times a day everyday for about 2 months straight. its probably just a puppy thing, he should grow out of it. but in the mean time you can try bitter apple or red pepper. or i found when walter realized being caught eating dirt meant getting his face washed he would run when he saw me coming, so try dragging him to the bathroom and washing his beard everytime. oh the good ole days! |
Tanya,
Congrats! I would recommend crate training! It will do wonders for housetraining - but also keep your pup safe when you're not around to keep an eye on him. Best of Luck! Kristen |
Thanks for the advice I tell ya it is so funny how 2 differnt types of dogs can be so differnt. My collie is so funny teaching Mickey(my baby sheepie)who is the boss, and Jagger my collie loves playing keep away, and now he has a little brother to mess with!! LMAO!!I have a feeling we are going to have alot of fun w/ Mickey and Jagger.Im going to post some pics of them ASAP.....BTW...I love this site so much good info, and seems too be alot of good people in here. |
A good tip on getting the puppy not to eat out of your planters is putting tinfoil on the dirt. Dogs cant stand the sound of it! It may help curb his interest. |
Congrats on your new baby and welcome to the forum!
Sheepdogs are very intelligent and I'm sure Mickey will learn the ropes quickly especially with an adult dog to learn from. 8 weeks is still very young to expect any kind of reliability. They cannot hold it at that age, and by the time they realize they have to go a fraction of a second later they are going. Just kepp up with the routine, and as someone else recommended, crate training is a great idea for most pups. |
Hi Tanya,
Apologies that I didn't greet you sooner as I missed your post. Welcome to this forum and congrats on your new sheepie. You're going to love this place!! Have fun! |
